Let's take a close look at this 'new' old purchase,... a 1974 Honda XR75. Let's see if we can get it to start. Leon the Lobster merch can be found here. leonthelobster.myshopify.com I'll also have a new Leon update very soon.
Nice one Brady, you're a man of all trades!!! We've got animals, we've got exploring and now we have vehicles! You're WAY too underated, but I predict that you will grow even bigger in the future! Keep up the grind, keep pushing for good content and you'll be in the big league in two years FOR SURE.
Maybe RU-vid fame isn't his goal, though. There's something nice about having a smaller channel - less weirdos and rude comments. He could set up some kind of support system if he could use the money, like a patreon or a join button :)
Cool, I had a 1974 XR 75. Hit the bush every weekend with my mates. Had to sell after being caught riding on the road by local police. I was 15, it was a great bike and I learnt so much on that bike. Kwinana Wester Australia.
I am 62 now but when I was a pimply face up and coming motocross failure I remember times at Indian dunes sitting on my Yamaha 80MX watching the grown ups take these XR's sideways into the turns with the sound only a thumper can make! So much fun for them.... Nay fun for me. I always wanted one and my mom knew I wanted one so she bought me an MX 80, same thing right??? No, not even close! Thanks to RU-vid I can relive memories that were not mine ;-)
I came for Leon and what do you know? I see a pic of my Very first motorcycle as a kid! I bought it used and it had many of the same problems this one had! I learned so much about bikes from that bike since it had those issues. It never ran perfect but I still had so much fun learning to ride and how to fix them. That bike lead to the purchase of many more over the years, thanks for sharing this and I am really looking forward to seeing it finished! You brought back loads of memories Brady! Thanks !
Early teens, my friend had the exact same year XR-75 and I had a 77' XL-75. My XL had dirt tires and all of the street legal accessories removed, so basically an XR. We lived in a rural area so we rode all of the time. I paid $200 for mine and my dad made me come up with half that cash. That took forever saving allowances, b-day, and lawn mowing money. I had to learn on my own or from my peers to do my own mechanic work. Those little bikes run forever. I can't believe how expensive they are today.
The XR75 was my first dirt bike. My Father bought me an earlier version, all grey gas tank with red racing stripes. I must have been in First Grade, I was only 5 or 6 years old. my feet couldnt reach the ground. Id slow down and he would catch me!! I can remember him yelling, SHIFT SHIFT! LOL. I rode this bike through the orange groves of central FL. until around 4th grade. I still have burn scars from laying it over and the exhaust cooked me, I was too little to get it off me. Mom and Dad split and all the bikes were gone! Thanks for the fantastic memories, I hope you get it solid again.
I got a red 1978 XR75 when I was 9 years old. When I moved away my younger brother started riding the bike. Then our youngest brother rode the bike after him (there are three of us). When I bought my own house I went back home, got the bike and brought it with me. It didn't run anymore, the handlebars was broken and replaced with neon-green aftermarket ones. The killswitch was broken after the bike rolled over, none of the wheels points in the right direction anymore, the sadle is torn and some of the foam inside is missing and there's a bunch of other problems with it. Stil, I love the thing but never got around to fix it. Didn't have a garage so I stored it in a shed that was everything other than weather-proof. Now, I've bought a bigger house with a proper garage and of course the bike went with me here, I still have some other projects to take care of but then I'm gonna try to restore that bike. Guess it's gonna take more than one winter though.... :/ Great video! It's an inspiration to start working on my own bike :D
Great looking bike, it"s a HONDA she'll run again. I ride an old Transalp, daily ride and offroad weekend rocket. She still starts every first try, well maintained ofcourse. Nothing gives more smiles per miles than a reliable bike.👏🇳🇱 NL
My younger brother had a XR-75 it was orange, maybe 1975 model. My older brother had a XR-80. I had a Suzuki RM-80. I can’t believe we all lived though the crazy stuff we did on those bikes. Loved the video.
Back in those days you guys on the RM and CR got to watch the xr75 ride all day every day, while you two strokers were wrenching all day trying to get to start. The 2stroke riders became great mechanics, and the xr75 still running
This was my first bike in1974! I had so much fun on this bike and I drove it hard (and crashed it hard) it was so durable. My parents brought 2 home for me and my sister and a mr50 for my lil brother, as I was driving our tractor all over very fast.
I absolutely love restoration. Things were just made in my opinion of higher quality and built to last longer a long time ago. I can’t wait to see the final restoration. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. And tell Leon I said hi 🤗
I love to look of that bike! My childhood bike was a Honda red balloon tire little one I could bomb through the potato fields, wind in my hair! My Dad would let me ride along the highway to the restaurant when we would go for supper. I felt so grown up. I was 7-8. I sure am enjoying your channel!😊
I had a blue Honda 70 when I was a kid. I loved riding it! It started out as my brother’s, but I ended up riding it more than him, so it became mine. I’d ride it on all the dirt roads and in pastures. My little dog then, Happy, would sit on the gas tank and ride with me.
Wow that brings back fond memories. I had an XR75 when I was 13 (now 54). Great fun dirt biking through the bush in Australia. Had heaps of power and was really loud. Thanks for the video!
I still have my XL70 sitting in a shed 2,000 miles away… but I still have the title, and hopes of restoring it someday… Thanks for providing some motivation to continue that hope.
I'm missing my motorcycle right now. Had one since I was 17...but taking blood thinners had me rethink my ride🥲🥲🥲. Loving your videos. Is there anything you can't do? ..❤️ to Leon❤️😇
Staving for air is what it was sounded like to me. Also. the jet is likely plugged and the atomizer tube (if equipped) as well. I am 100% sure you weren't really asking lol. LOVE THIS!
I had one in 1975 and loved it. Ran it till I outgrew it and sold it to a family friend. He kept it till it rusted out in this barn. ATTENTION Brady! You may want to distance yourself and your channel from your knife sponsor. They have been investigated and discovered to be a SCAM! Selling knives made for old K-Mart that retailed for $ 10.00 for high end cutlery. Their knives are made from lowest level Japanese steel and are made in China! Oh well thought you may want to know! Thanks for the postings and take care!
Hey John have you actually owned one of the knife sets? I’ve been using them for 6 months now and I love them, sharp, well balanced, and beautiful. I have heard there are some bad reviews out there, but also a lot of very good ones. I think the knife industry is probably really competitive, and so there’s a lot of dirt out there also. ✌️✌️✌️
Thanks for the videos. Had a XR as a kid and have been looking for one to restore myself. I'm sure I will be checking out your other videos. Thanks for the help
Brady, you just plainly make good videos. I didn't have a bike like this as a young person. That's probably because I would have killed myself on it. It is a neat looking bike. I hope there is an update sometime soon. ☺️
I had a brand new 1975 XR75. I think they they designated it (K1) . It was a fine piece of machinery. It was tough as nails. I put a many a mile on it. Now my cousin has it and is doing a frame up on it. This brings back many memories of my childhood. Thanks for posting.
Loving your approach to life Brady. It is a pleasure to watch you patiently chasing down the troubles of a bike you enjoyed in your youth, and bringing it back to a machine that works again. The past is worth preserving…at least the good parts of it.🖤🇨🇦
i had a xl50 .. my first bike when i was 7 years old, build i together with my father .. when we got it, it was just a rusty lump sitting in a parking lot for 15 years .. fired up the first day though, with the help of starting fluid 🙂
I live in Ga, I'm loving the Leon videos, AND I had that EXACT bike in 1974. I was 15! Edit: Mine didn't have the green stripe on the fender or gas tank. And I don't remember having the number plate. 2nd edit: haha, I see the green stripe was added later. Glad you removed it!
I spent the better part of my childhood exploring on an XR75. My whole world revolved around that bike. Thanks for bringing back some great memories :)
I saved my $ and bought one new for $451 with a silver helmet. Not sure what year but it was gray almost like this one. I left home for school and my Mom still rode it some. I returned once after she passed it was gone and I wish I still had it now! That bike was Freedom!
Wow , wow!!! I had one of those. The paint colors were definitely different, no green, silver /blue no side panels. It was built to to compete and beat the the Yamaha mini enduro I believe, a 2cycle , smaller but very fast bike. The xr75 was Hondas answer, it was however a 4 cycle engine. Great to see this video, thanks
In had a similar XR75 when I was 12 (56 now). It use to belong to my next door neighbors & my dad bought it from them when their boys out grew it. It had the cylinder bored & was one of the fastest bikes in the neighborhood. Funny you mention the exhaust pipe. Mine had a Hooker Header & yep you could hear it 4 blocks away. Great memories. I still ride dirt bikes today. BTW... I hope Leon is doing well. 😉
@@joeblow5037 first thing then clean the carb and make sure it's in time and the exhaust is clear.... there isn't much to them also I would say them old rubber valve seals are hard and that's where alot of the oil was coming from...
@@randeljones4740 yea, needs rings for sure...hopefully just a hone and stock rings. Did that to my Triumph 500 when I got it 30 years ago, still perfect compression. He's right about the timing chain, etc...that was a weak point on my SL-125.
Absolutely love the restoration! This 48 year old machine works much better than my current motorcycle, I guess old stuff were made with good quality materials not just for its time but current time too. Also tell Leon I said hello.
I didn't have one, but a friend had a 1977 XR75. I learned to use a clutch on that bike. At the time, I had a 1974 Kawasaki KV75 which had a centrifugal clutch. I hope to see more on this restoration!
Absolutely flippin aweosme mate ..... came for Leon and saw ya bike stuff. I am an old honda fan and have a couple myself ..... looking forward to more of your bike stuff and of course our mate Leon.
To me the term "crank" is often used to designate something that will not START. Some use the term to say that something will not "turn over" ( engine locked or broken). As one that spent years teaching courses for JOHN DEERE, the description "Won't crank" always left me asking my students this. "Do you mean it will not start or do you mean the engine is locked-up or broken?" I endeavored to get them to use a term that actually describes the problem.
I trashed a couple of those back in da day. Had one as a pit bike (NHRA). They're very economical when you need to drive a large distance to get a lobster dinner too ;-)~
Can't wait to see more. I love Leon and all, in fact, he got me into your channel, but I watched a lot of your other videos and love the restorations/restomods the best! Please buy and fix more bikes!!!
Very Cool bike. I just put my 1974 Honda XL250 back together and I think I may need to rebuild the motor. I am having the same issues you are showing. Thank You.
Had a 76 xl that was a present at Christmas I immediately stripped the light and tail lights off This was the bike my father picked out Not exactly what I wanted But grew to love that bike While friends 2 stroke’s wouldn’t start mine would When there’s continued to break down Mine ran awesome always And it for the time and how much or little I weighed was plenty fast I even raced it a few times I traded that in on a 78 RM 100 that at first regretted but loved that bike also Me and my cousin would strap our rifles o our backs and he be my passenger we go miles into the woods hunting It was amazing how fast we go thru the woods 2 up He had no fear and knew how to lean into turns The only bikes I own now is My orig 72 ct70 and a 69 ct70 that I put a 125 Chinese motor in with a Clutch And that little bike is fast compared to the 70cc
My brother had one, I was an allowed to have one because I was a girl. But I was allowed to be a Girl Scout but my brother wasn’t allowed to be a Boy Scout. My brother crashed his bike so often he moved up to much larger bikes. To the point of where they were street legal. He really enjoyed those bikes. I really enjoyed Girl Scouts. The bike does bring back a lot of good memories. Thanks
I believe that most of my male peers had one of these back in '74! If I was a boy, I would have had one, too, but, back then, girls rode 10 speed bikes, maybe a mustang. lol Enjoyed this very much. Found it as interesting and well put together as our beloved Leon videos. I am hooked on your channel for sure. Keep up the great work. You are very relaxing to watch.
I remember watching jeff ward and Eric kehoe race this bike at Indian dunes.they were both number 1 and already had factory contracts . the advantage is 4 strokes do not slip in the corners.they grip 😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
I had one but it was red cool bike 👍🏻💯wish I still had it love it I learned how to ride on that bike I think mine was a 75 76 would like to find another one
