This mower came with a MASSIVE trailer full of non-running outdoor power equipment (see "The Mother Lode" playlist on our channel for some of the others). It seems to be a "smaller commercial-type" Ariens Walk Behind mower with grease-able caster wheels and a Tecumseh VLV55. Lets see if we can bring it back to life!

Just got one of these for free from my neighbor.. his elderly parents couldn't use it anymore.. and they hardly used it.. like only 4 or 5 times.. cant wait to see how mine does! I had an electric mower.. and it was so so.. and ive wanted a gas mower for a while now.

Dude, Nice Mower!! I just picked up 2 of these mowers along with 2 Craftsman mowers for $50 bucks. Both Ariens didn't run. I repaired the one which had a 6 HP Briggs and just got the other one together and it also has the VLV55 Tecumseh you have. It had a sheared flywheel key and the carb was very dirty. Can't wait to get them both back to normal. CHEERS!!!

I've got one of these! Mine seems a bit older than yours though. My engine is a 5.5 Honda. There's a number of different models in the series, according to the manual. Mine is a 911101 (I think) - about 20 years old, I've had it for 10. Almost ready to sell it - going electric!

I bought this model mower about 15 years ago. It is a simple $20 replacement float that is needed if it starts but wont keep running. Plastic float gets a hole or crack and wont manage fuel level in the carb....

i am fascinated by this odd tecumseh engine. had on from a craftsman and it ran great want another to put on an ariens . i have 6 ariens . use them for leaf cleanup in my lawn biz

Some of the problems with those carbs are the two o-rings, one is on the vertical piece and the other is to be found at the very back of the drain screw opening. Both can be purchased at most hardware stores, 1/4" od X 1/8" id. AND the float needle seat is sometimes rubber that swells up and wont allow gas to come into the bowl.

@@ChrisXOutdoors That o-ring in the back is the one that will not let it run except when you are spraying directly into the carb. The problem I am dealing with is oil leaking out from under the breather cover...again! Replaced cover last year and its doing it again. All drain holes are open beneath the cover.

Do they have fuel filter? I have one for almost 25 years but it’s a 6.5 hp ! I have it in my building & never use it for 4 years! Today I’m trying to see if’s gonna run ! They started right away but it’s stop & won’t start! I usually empty the gas before i put it up on winter!

Even if there was an ounce or two left in the carburetor bowl, it is enough to keep it from running. I’d clean that out along with the main jet and you should be good! Some people install a fuel filter if one does not come from the factory

They call that the Vector carburetor. It was an eco friendly carb. Kinda like how Briggs makes a plastic carb now too, but these were better in my opinion, plus that mower is from the late 80's early 1990's, so they had a big jump on it vs Briggs. Their a very simple carburetor.

Thank you Gary. Typically Airens and the engine manufacturers have fairly detailed parts lookups on their websites if you enter the mower/model information. Once you can locate the parts number(s), dump that number into Google and you should have some options. Oftentimes Amazon has many parts. Good luck Gary!

I have an ariens 911019 self propelled mower that the engine is no good. Would I be able to replace it with a predator 173cc vertical shaft engine?

You might have to do some formfitting to the bolt holes on the deck if it does not line up. That and making sure the brake cable can be maneuvered in as well.. as long as the shaft is very close in length you should be good. Might just need some influencing here and there. If you try it, let me know how it works out!

I'm not familiar with this mower and one just like this was donated to me. It's an ariens with 6.0 tecumseh with missing self propel bar/handle, broken self propel cable, and I don't see a throttle control. I put a new carb, spark plug and air filter on it and it fired right up. I've found parts diagrams but don't see a throttle control anywhere. Am I missing something or maybe it just doesn't have one like other small engines?

Typically push mowers don't have a variable speed engine (bunny and turtle speeds). Its usually a wide open throttle controlled by a governor spring. The bail lever at the top that you hold down DOES pull back on a cable that is usually connected to a brake cable that also grounds and kills the engine once you let off. With all that said, I DO believe that this Ariens mower has a variable speed function which would mean it has a throttle cable. I can try to do a quick search for you. What is the model number or anything pertaining to the mower specs?

@@ChrisXOutdoors Ariens 911072 w/ Tecumseh vlv60 engine. The engine bail lever is attached and the mower runs, but the bottom bar that engages the self propel is missing. Theres a bunny and turtle sticker on the side of the rails you push, but I didn't find anything in my search that was a throttle control. Maybe it's just as you said and it never had a variable speed.

I searched and was able to find something.. Its difficult to tell if its an exact match but you may be able to better confirm once you search and compare with your own eyes.. Ariens part number 06938000. Hope you were able to get it together!

How long will it run before it dies out?

I have same problem. Runs for 5 sec then dies. However if I press down on primer button and keep it depressed it idles beautifully. Don’t understand why? Thoughts ? Thanks Chris !!

So either you have some kind of air leak near the primer bulb which is causing an air/fuel imbalance, or there is something clogged up in the carb starving it of fuel

I just picked up a similar looking model 911513. Almost new one owner. He went electric I’m told. 6.5 Briggs. Started first pull. So far looks amazing. Tomorrow I’ll try it out. Lots of mixed reviews on these so I can’t call it. Briggs is solid usually. The mower feels well built. Mine is not propelled which may be a blessing for me. Mine has the tag sticker still and says made in Wisconsin. I love the look and how it turns. Helluva lot better than anything for twice that price (used) at any of the big box stores..

We have been looking for a oil plug . I guess you just dump it out the fill hole

Yes! Most times on these push mowers it’s more of a hassle to drain from the plug and 10x easier to dump out the oil filler neck. Just make sure when you tip the carburetor/air filter is on the top side otherwise oil will fill the intake

It' best at you buy a whole new lawn mower . Why you opening carbs and engines ,when you can' fix it ?....nothing wrong with that old original Tecumseh carb ... P.S just needs clean properly 😃...
