Found this pressure washer at the curb on trash night. No pull handle for the starter. Just trying to see if I can make it run & what it takes to get a non-running Briggs back in action.

Good video bro. I have this same model and after 10 years I am constantly working on it for some problem. The engine still runs good and never had a problem with the pump but its always something with the carb or the linkage or some kinda pain in the ass small problem! If you are not some what good at repairing small engines this is not the model for you but if you are you can keep it going for 10-12 years if ya dont mind getting your hands dirty and watching a lot of You Tube videos!😂 Just been using mine for the last 3 days around my pool and after several hrs of repairs its still going strong! You def need some patience and a more than basic knowledge of how this model runs to keep it going but it can and has been done!😂

Thanks for posting the info on your personal experience, I'm sure it will be a help to some else who find the comments section of this video. I've personally found that when it comes to Briggs small engines, the carb is usually the main point of problems. And I've also found that it's usually due to 2 things: 1. Using Ethanol-laced gasoline, and 2. The infrequent use these machines get. It's been well proven that Ethanol laced gas is usually only good for 30-60 days, & the Ethanol tends to attract water in the form of humidity, which can cause running issues. The fact that this machines engine is running a water pump doesn't help with that much either, being exposed to a "wetter" environment than a lawnmower would be. On top of that, with the machine only being use sporadically, the gas left in the carb can attract water (thru the intake system) & that can & will cause problems with the jets in the carb, clogging it up with either corrosion or "thickened" gas over time, which has to be cleared out before the engine will run well again. My advice to anyone reading this on how to avoid these problems? 1. The Hard way - drain the gas out of the machine completely after each use, before you put the machine away. That way the Ethanol in the gas won't cause you issues. 2. Use Non-Ethanol gas in the machine. You can sometimes find this at some gas stations, often sold as "boat fuel". Try using the Gas Buddy website to see if there are stations near you that sell Non-Ethanol gas (gasbuddy.com). 3 If you can only get Ethanol gas, go buy a small bottle of Sta-Bil "red" gas treatment for $5-$6 at any auto parts store. It will neutralize the "bad" effects of Ethanol gas that is stored for more than 30 days (works for up to 2 years!) either in a gas can or in a machine's own gas tank & will prevent the problems I've described above. It's very cheap insurance as the small bottle (8 ounces) will treat up to 20 gallons of fuel (1 ounce of Sta-Bil treats 2 & 1/2 gallons of fuel). I highly recommend it for anything with a gasoline engine that isn't used often. I also recommend that you have a separate gas can for the treated fuel, it makes things very easy.

@@The13thSword yes thats a very good point. I can get ethanol free gas at a local station and do use it on the pressure washer leaf blower weed eater etc… it makes a HUGE difference!😎

i have one of tehse somewhat similar but the guy said it doesnt have a pump so seeing this i know where to look to put one and the soap thing i guess..i got the engine to work now all i need ot do is get a pump and that plastic thing to put the soap in i guess if i want to sell it as a totla package or jsut sell the engine and whoever buys it can buy the pump and plastic soap jug
@The13thSword
@The13thSword Год назад
Or.... you could try to find one with a pump & soap reservoir but it has a bad engine, & put the engine in that. It's almost impossible to find a new soap reservoir for these machines, & new pumps are expensive & also hard to find. Used working parts can also be a headache. Considering a brand new machine comparable to this one is about $300, it's really not worth the time, expense & hassle to try to make an old one workable as original IMO. More likely, it's really only good enough to sell for the engine, as the engine could be used for other power products like lawnmowers or generators.

@@The13thSword yeah i think im just going to sell it as is just the engine..those pump are expensive soem like 200 bucks..so no thanks..yeah its a 7.75hp so it could also be a good engine for a homemade go kart:)

the biggest problem with that particular on isn't the pump it's the plastic crank gear and plastic cam gear and lobes. They jump time and shear the crank gear which in turn messes up the cam gear. They just get thrown away.

@The13thSword 5 лет назад
True enough on that model, you are correct. Unfortunately on this one is was the big crack in the pump casing. The engine turned out fine.

i repowered a Sears Craftsman pressure washer as this 7.75 Briggs broke with plastic internals. i repowered it with a 173cc Predator engine as i had to use spacers to move the pump down as the crankshaft is long plus had to disable the flywheel brake and put the on off switch from the Briggs to the predator engine and wire the throttle open so its constant fast. it ran good for couple years till the pump cracked.

The springs in the recoil starter could be broken, rusted or both; pretty common on pressure washers. You can easily replace it with a new recoil starter unit, it's just 6 screws. You just need to get the engine model # off the engine to find the right one, lots of online sellers have them, about $30 to $40.

@Robert Shorthill Great tips. This also proves the old theory, always check out the basics first, especially if you were not the first & only user. I cannot count on someone else doing things right so I always verify.

how do you clean the fly wheel? Do you take it off to clean it or left on the washer. Also what kind of cleaner.
@The13thSword
@The13thSword 6 лет назад
Sorry I wasn't more specific in the video. How I cleaned the rust off the flywheel was to use a wire cup brush on a power drill. You can see the tool I used from 5:22 to 5:28 in the vid. You can also use a steel wire hand brush or even sandpaper (150 grit or finer/higher number) if you don't have the power tools. Even steel wool will work, it just takes longer. There is no need to remove the flywheel to clean off the rust; you can get to all the areas you need to clean with it still on the machine. The magnet area is vital to clean. I just do all the rest out of principle. Steel wire cup brushes & steel wire hand brushes are available cheap @ almost any hardware store or Harbor Freight. I did not use any chemical cleaners at all, just the brushes; mechanical cleaning. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have other questions or if I can help you in any other way.

Pat H you can also use some Emory cloth and had sand. Use at least 180 grit or finer.

the governer is set too high when u started it as these models have problems the engine has plastic internals for the camshart and timing gears as they are failure prone. as this pressure washer is made for Troy Bilt by Briggs & Stratton they make the machine except the pump. This engine will not work on a lawn mower as the crankshaft is too short. and there is no throttle control its a fixed speed control maintained by the governer as Nunya bizness's channel says don't buy these
