I wish I could buy merch to support S6 - like a palia-t-shirt , plushies , figures or posters .

I've been downsized before when my whole department at a company closed in 2008; I was one of the last on the team to leave, so I get that ghost town feeling. I had a similar feeling the two times I went back to my old office for the current job to pick up gear and personal items. I've also been faithful players of at least three discontinued games. One of those I miss to this day. So does the rest of the Discord community I joined for that game. We stayed "until the very end." It's fact that at some point Palia will come to an end, but I will optimistically hope that is a long ways off.

I really wish they would make cosmetics cheaper. If outfits were $5-7 maybe even $10 I would have a bunch of outfits by now. But when the outfits I want are $30 freaking dollars that just stops me in my tracks. I am a frugal person and I just can't get past that price point. That price HURTS. Now $5, $7... I wouldn't think twice about purchasing multiple outfits. I would gladly support them at that price.
@offendingcommit

Yeah, totally agree. The price isn’t palpable for many.

I've said the same thing a few times myself, if the prices were lower they would sell more of them. perhaps they could bring out some new sets, that are on par with the set we already have, but at the much lower price and see how many they sell

I agree! I think they would make up the money in volume of sales. I could do $5 to $10 here and there. I've already given them the cost of an average game to support them but can't justify any more.

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on this. It can definitely be scary seeing layoff numbers like this, but those of us who have been in gaming for a long time understand why it happens and that it doesn't necessarily signal bad things. I really hope those impacted received support and a nice severance package. I am optimistic for the future of Palia and look forward to seeing it grow!

At the moment i keep my fingers crossed, but at the same time, i have a odd feeling it might not survive for as long as we think, espaclly if they keep minimizing their team. Another fear is a montly payment, if that happens I wont play palia anymore. As it is simply gonna be to expensive. I would probably do it if it turned out to be pay x amount and the game is fully mine, but qgain depends on the price. I love palia, but it differently needs improvements on questslines, maybe a little longer or more of them, to keep people entertained. That would be something i would really love for this beautiful game. I agree the cosmetics is very expensive! Think they would get more people to buy cosmetics, if you could buy, seperate hats, glasses, footwear and jewellery! I wish we had stuff like earrings, necklesses and or bracelets.

I am also very hopeful! I believe they are reevaluating the structure of their business, and figuring out what is going to be sustainable for the future of the game. Palia far exceeded my expectations and I know I'm not alone on this! ❤

@s.b200
@s.b200 26 дней назад
I agree, Im also hopeful. They did say in their long-form dev news article that Palia has the imbedded technology to be low maintenance and quite self-sustaining (with server resets and such). Most of the core tech systems to run Palia seem to be in place now. So naturally, some people will be laid off just due to that. And in their new launches on Steam and Switch they actually do not mention that Palia is an open Beta game anymore. So, I feel like there is so much unnecessary fear being spread among players. I hope S6 will be transparent. And maybe there IS an economy crisis. I understand that content creators that rely on a game for their income are worried. But as players we shouldnt panic. Because Palia and content creators do rely on us, and it would be more harmful to not continue our support just out of fear that Palia might not do well ain the future!
@offendingcommit
@offendingcommit 26 дней назад
Oh rest assured, I don’t rely on content creation like many do. This is my fun hobby. However, I respect the fact that we’ve built this awesome community around a game that has been shaken to its core recently. I just don’t want to lose that, so I felt it necessary to let everyone know where I stand on it. Yes, we will be testing the waters a bit with some newer material. I just hope y’all want to ride the wave with me!

I have hope for Palia, although this news does make me skeptical. They definitely need to make some changes soon. I really wish they would've charged for this game, I feel they'd be doing a whole lot better financially. I would have paid up front for this game 1000% (I have over 400 hours playtime!!). I love Palia and am very sad at this latest development. I am hoping the game will continue. I would even pay for a dlc if it was available. I've bought a few clothing items to support the game. With all the turmoil I think they are letting the veteran players down. The only objectives I have right now are level 5 friendships. The fantastic momentum they began with is at a standstill since the last update. I hope they increase the plot item limits. I can't even decorate any more because I've topped out. Hardcore fan so I will stick with Palia. Keeping my fingers crossed for a continued successful future.

Palia has genuinely changed my life. My husband is a gamer and I struggled to find games because most of them didn't include tutorials that were literally from scratch-I grew up without internet so I legit needed to know from step one, what buttons to push and how to move through games. Many games don't teach that while teaching everything else. Palia also makes it interesting bc there's so much to do, there's something for everybody. When I learned the way to support it was buying cosmetic things, I opted to support it that way, and I am someone who does not purchase any item lightly. I feel I understand my partner better because I understand gaming better. I am interested in learning coding now more than ever. I really hope Palia continues because I am grateful for it.

I think whether Palia sinks or swims has a lot to do with their choices going forward, and the choices that they are making now seem promising. With that said they haven’t put themselves in a good position, but it’s not to the point where they wouldn’t be able to recover, either. Having the next update introduce new cosmetic items for the store as well as making improvements to the economy is a good move, but I think the survival of the game will rest on two variables; the first of which being whether or not they double down and actually start fixing the various bugs. Having a buggy game speaks to either a general lack of concern for your game’s health or the inability to maintain the basic systems on which a game operates, and the BETA label will only hold of criticism for so long as bugs continue to be reported and are subsequently ignored. It tends to be a bad omen when these things get ignored, and people _do_ notice and will often interpret it as a lack of care on even the most fundamental level. The upcoming patch bodes well specifically because new content should NOT be introduced to the game in its current state for fear of complicating existing issues in the code (new content as in major additions to the game that don’t expand upon existing ones). If they’re wise, they’ll use this opportunity to fix the various bugs that are plaguing the game. The second variable that will determine the future of the game is follow-through. If they can actually fix most of the bugs in the game, improve the economy, and improve their monetization strategy, then that will be the time to add new content to the game. Things like weather, new animals, new quests, new areas, and new mechanics will need to start being implemented or the good-will and patience of the community will wear thin and gradually die out. If the developers do manage to stabilize the core game but do nothing to capitalize on that, then the game will stagnate and die a slow death. I think that Palia is sitting on a precipice right now, and if we don’t start to see bugs being hammered out between this patch and the next, it might be safe to assume the ship is starting to sink. You can’t continue to build a ship when there are holes in the bottom and you’re taking on water.

If you look at their website... They how remote. So not everyone was in Cali... But that isn't saying much either bc developer pay is high regardless of location. But one thing that stood out to me on their careers page... Is that they offer unlimited PTO. That's wild... Especially with remote workers... And they say most of them haven't met in real life. So it's hard to really tell if someone is being honest about their PTO and such. But that's beyond the point. When everyone came on board for Palia.. I'm sure it was made very clear that this was going to be a free game. The concept behind free to play and not having the option to pay to advance and such... People had to know that the money was going to be tight. I've been following Palia for a very long time before it's PC release and the passion behind it and the concept of making it fair and fun and always having something to do... Everything about this game was amazing to me and that's why I wanted it for so long. I believe that there is potential here. I believe long-term success is possible. However I do wish they would at least just make it a $20 game. And that they would allow you to buy cosmetic items individually. But I get why they're not doing those things. And it makes me believe in them even more because they've stuck to their word since the beginning. They are giving us the players exactly what they said they were going to give us. They've stuck to their word on updates and communicating. I just hope that's enough to keep them in business. But regardless I'll probably be here playing Palia until they take it offline. Good luck to you and your wife and I hope you guys can find your way in this magical streaming world even if Palia fails. ❤

Hot take/unpopular opinion but I love a good battle pass. Free game + battle pass model works for a lot of games and I would not mind if they went that route. I love Palia and the layoffs sounds like a negative/scary thing. however correct me if I’m wrong, wasn’t that their plan from the start? I swear I read somewhere that they hired a lot of people to kick start the game and most of them knew it wasn’t going to be long term. Idk maybe I’m mixing it up with another game? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Well I have NO idea on the future of Palia. I've been a lurker on the channel for awhile now. It destresses me to see you publish this. I LOVE Palia. I was an old Sims player (23 yrs) and for decades also a WoW player. I'm old now, I'm looking for cozy games. I don't want to raid. Sims is a sh!t show thanks to EA. So when The Sims fell apart I looked for something new. I found Dreamlight Valley a year and a half ago and bought it in Early Access. I was shocked to install it and find it was the EXACT SAME GAME I had played YEARS ago on mobile with The Sims.. they had just put Disney things into it. The EXACT same trash spawns, housing system, inventory system. You couldn't angle or center items... the SAME MOBILE GAME but was now featuring Disney on PC and Console by Gameloft. I should have just moved away from the keyboard and took my losses.. but I played it as I had bought it. The toons were cute but same old mobile game. And with Gameloft they get you sucked in with FOMO... so you feel you can't quit. So I still play it and HATE it. Then came Palia last year. I got invited to the closed beta and I fell in LOVE. It was EVERYTHING that I wanted. I immediately bought clothing to support the company. I stayed playing until January and I hit the Temple of Gales in the storyline. OMG. I was over it at that point. Who put that crap in the game? I quit for 3 months over that god awful place. In April I came back and with the help of my son, who is a parkour player finished it for me. That place was not COZY at all and brought out my vertigo. Then I began reading Glass Door and what people who had gotten booted said about the company. Seems the upper heads want to just throw everything and the kitchen sink into the game if it's trendy. Exactly, if I wanted to play that type of game that came from Temple of Gales I would go play parkour games. So yeah a huge red flag for me. But it wasn't long that I did all my bundles and got back into the swing of normal play life and forgot about it. (Kind of like the pain of childbirth.) I bought more clothes. (I'm over $300 at this point.) Then they go and mess up the keybindings for the mouse on PC. I always (and in ALL games I've ever played, WoW and Dreamlight Valley, plus a hundred others) was able to map my character's movement to the left mouse button. That ended as of two patches ago. I can play with WASD but it's just not my normal thing. Why they took this out I have NO CLUE... but it's gone. So I went and bought a Microsoft mouse just so I could map W to the scroll button click on my mouse button. It's insane what I've gone thru for this game and the money I have spent. I am going to be VERY upset if it doesn't make it... and it will teach me to NEVER again get involved with ANY game that is not in full release. Dreamlight Valley is just a continuing dumpster fire. They are running a paid for game on FTP tactics with NO quality of life improvements and more bugs every patch than you can count. If you find something else WORTHY of playing.. please let us all know. Also I wanted to add that I would pay for a monthly subscription to Palia if that is what it takes to keep it alive. Because even with the crap that was Temple of Gales and the keybinding BS of not letting us keybind to our PC mouse.. it's the best game out there IMO.

I think it will ultimately fail layoffs and general money trouble when it is this small is almost always a sign of crash/burn I hope they don't but i would say maybe around 85% chance it fails within the next 2 to 3 years. Another sign would be the extremely slow content releases and and events to keep people staying on.
