They are going to need 2 or 3 pitchers... The youngsters are going to be tired by the end of July.. No need for big names just guys that can keep them in games..
We say they are not WC contenders but if you get to the post season then the three players you’re waiting on for 2025 are technically “ready”. Give me a #2 veteran starter and those kids and I think they can threaten the Yankees.
The Sox need one or two solid starting pitchers, and they need to trade one or two of their abundant left handed hitters for at least one, and possibly two right handed power hitters. Upgrading their bullpen would be a good thing too. They play in a ball park with the shortest left field wall in baseball. Why do they have so many left handed hitters? They desperately need a couple of guys who can tattoo that wall on a regular basis. They can become a contender with just a few changes.
The running game never slumps. Remember the 1970s Oakland team that ran teams out of the ball park every night ? ..they won about 15 more games every year than they would have lost.
I don't think they do much at the dead line..a starter and another end of the game reliever. Maybe C. Estevez out of LAA and Yusei Kikuchi out of Toronto.
Red Sox would be smart to market the Cora vs Henry beef. make Cora Stone Cold Steve Austin and Henry Vince McMahon. Have them act out the plot of the movie “Major League” maybe Henry can sign Charlie Sheen
Short answer: no. But geniuses in a world of one, like J-Stu will pin it on Breslow and Sam Kennedy, who, we all know don't hold the purse strings. It's simple, they won't, and after Breslow and Kennedy mealy-mouth it because they get to take the bullets, AC makes a snarky remark just short of "I"m outta here," and some players express feeling not believed in, we can THEN count on John Henry to emerge from his 50 room suite under a rock to shoot off an inane, "Fans are unrealistic" email or some other comment about as connected to reality as flat earth theory. And so it goes. I still maintain Jeremy Jacobs, in a bid to live longer, body-snatched John Henry sometime in 2019.
Red Sox do not need to buy at all !!!!!! They only need a number 5 pitcher The young talent is strong enough but they just need to eliminate errors in fielding: at least 15 loses are the result of fielding. Richard Fitts is ready to be a 5 starter the Sox are sitting to long on him. Trading a package of three or four current rosters is possible because the depth of talent is long. Rafealia , Valdez, Smith or Anderson, and Gonzalez and or Yosida can gain fair high value star who is not going to pretend to need surgery. Hendricks is tradeable even though he has not pitched.
What a player they want will cost!??? They are NOT giving up top 5 prospects for rent a players!!!... Trading for READY FOR MAJORS players will cost top prospects! Veterans, not so much... Everyone wants a Pitcher 6'6 230 who throws 100mph... Everyone wants a Hitter who bats 320. and hits 35-40 homers.... Who are the players the Red Sox want??
We need to cut payroll and replace 10MM+ players with serviceable minor league guys who want to win, and are hungry for an opportunity. Yes, that includes Devers. We will have better team chemistry without him.
