Where the rubber really meets the road here is around 500 microns. That's about where air switches from turbulent and laminar flow regimes into molecular flow. Above 500um air is "elastic" and the gas molecules push each other through the tube from areas of higher pressure to lower pressure, ensuring relatively equal pressure through all parts of the system across a wide rang of restrictions. Below 500um the gas molecules have virtually no influence on each other: the "pushing" stops. They wander around aimlessly until they fall into the traps the rotary pump arranges for them. But that having been said, even at very low pressure I would expect the 1/4 in. lose to be almost as effective as the 1/2 in. because the high side narrow bore tubing is the real bottleneck. Assuming the high side tubing has the same bore as the connection hose (1/4) then the hose can be considered an extension of the pipe. With a 1/2 hose that length virtually disappears. For 20' of pipe and 5' of 1/4" hose you'd get a relative conductance of about 1/25, or .04. With 1/2 in foreline it would be about 1/20 or .05, a %20 improvement. When you'd start to see a dramatic difference is when pumping the low side. And of course it would be very interesting to do this experiment with two vacuum gauges, one on each end.

Maybe try a higher flow rated vacuum pump. Do the same test and see if that widens the gap.

Love what you do mate, I live in Australia I’ve been trying to get the trublu set up for 6 months. I can’t get the whole kit under $2000. Help a brother out!!! Love your content, watch all your videos and listen to your podcasts. Really appreciate what you’re doing for the trade

Good video ! i Like it ! as i allways figured , Big hoses for big systems , small hoses on small systems. not going to see much difference. Just Look at it logically. If u use 2 Hoses from each end of the system , vac is going to be faster than 1 at just one end also. U Want Fast - Pull From Multiple points on the system with multiple vacuum pumps. ive worked on systems so big that We had 3 vacuum pumps at different points on the 100 ton evap & 2 vacuum pumps on the Condenser & 1 on the compressor. it still took a Few days to Get the vacuum down to 500 microns. i could have used tru-blu hoses back then.

I was wondering how 5 ft of larger ID hose would aid in any measurable difference in 30 to 100 ft of line.

I think where the Tru Blu hoses shine is the time it takes to get from 1500 microns to 500, so that may be a test to shoot for. May prove us all wrong, who knows?

Came to say this. On Trane systems since the vapor valve is so low, it’s hard to get a core tool and trublu on it. If I pull through the liquid valve, it takes forever, with the gauge on the vapor port. If I’m pulling through the vapor port with the mic gauge in the liquid port, that’s the ticket.

Core removal is 90% of the equation on a resi system in my experience. I told my cat about it and he didn’t seem to care.. sorry to inform ya but I tell it like it is.

Interesting test. I would be willing to bet Mr. Bergman would have the answer. Perhaps moisture in the pipe is the equalizer... Thanks for the video

There is always a limiting factor in your evacuation. It is the conductance speed of your pump the conductance speed of your connecting hose, or the conductance speed of the system itself. In this case you just have a highly restrictive system. Interestingly enough, even if you evacuate from both sides it won’t make much difference.

I would guess no, but not sure.

Thats a good idea, if the ID is the same,, the longer hose allows more volume in it. Does it pass quicker, well I think just for that distance, then at the line, it may be 25 to 100 ft, mostly the same wether 5 ft is larger or not.

Two test to perform to add to this 1: Measure the amount of time it takes the quarter inch hose to go from the 1900 µm down to the 1700 µm of the true blue after that five minute mark. The amount of energy required to go down in microns as you go deeper is not linear it’s like on a bell curve taking longer to get in more energy to get lower. 2: Just for amusement and the sake of science experiment. Test two might as well use the blue vac hose. Preheat the hundred foot coil of copper with your really hot air gun at the highest temperature or a rose bud and just pull it back a little bit. Until the surface temperature is about 200° on the copper coil. Then repeat the test see you after the allotted amount of time if there’s a difference achieved in vacuum ?

And his testing results show the hose size doesn’t matter a lot.
@coldfinger459sub0
@coldfinger459sub0 2 года назад
@@jrm163 The testing shows the hose do matter a lot for QuickFlow not for final low vacuum. But what you didn’t understand was he was not shutting off the vacuum at the hoses back at the compressors and reading the lost in the hoses he was reading the system and shutting off the valve located at the micron gauge separating the hoses Go back and watch the video again there’s a difference. Getting there is one thing totally separate from isolating and reading the vacuum inside the hose through vacuum decay or reading vacuum decay isolated at the valve at the unit or tank I can use the little hose and eventually get down to a certain micron reading but if I isolate on the other side of the hose and leave the rubber hose in the measurement it will affect the final measurement of the D Kay

All in advertising! First there was something wrong with your hook up on both make sure all rubber and hoses are fresh ,you should pull 700 - 900 mics in short order. If all that crap ment anything why not use 2" hoses or 3" speed kills your connections matter more. I don't even take the cores out works well enough!!! 🍺🍺🍺🥃🥃🍇🏌🏻‍♀️ Stay safe. I say why spend all that money on a large hose when you are charging the customer by the hour. Sit back or check other parts of the system that need attention.
