Hey Ken, keep quiet about vintage hockey until we get the cards we want. Haha. I love seeing the Howe, Orr, and Horton. Dryden was fantastic. If demand for vintage hockey does go up, the supply won’t be nearly as high as for baseball. Most 50s and early 60s Parkhurst and Topps cards were primarily available in Canada, with only a small amount making it to the US. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and collection

Vintage hockey keeps on growing on me ever time I see it. I was only going to go back to 86 for my team sets but I may go back further. I don’t think vintage hockey will take off through the country but perhaps in certain areas. I also feel like there is also a lot of value in vintage football. That special forces card is really cool. May have to pickup some Pens for the collection.
@kenscardboard
@kenscardboard Месяц назад
@@scootscollectibles, I agree that vintage football could have some run. However, the rules of football have changed so much all the records for the great players have been eclipsed, so many of these guys will not resonate with today’s football fans. You could just start with a key player from the years prior to 86. Thanks for hanging out with me Mike.

Makar got there quick! Came out of the new Extended Series. Beautiful Howe & Tim Horton. The vintage is definitely going to hold steady. I have friends in Quebec, those Dryden's or a Roy is so huge there. Bobby Orr was my father's favorite player, because of the Oshawa Generals start for him. Solid pick ups. If vintage does boom your set for it

First awesome video Ken! Second, shhhhhh on the vintage Hockey Cards! (Just kidding). You are on the way with an already awesome collection. The ‚68 topps set is one of my favorites. I’ve been watching their prices keep going up. Same with ‚71 topps. I’ve found ‚72 through ‚79 to be more affordable depending on the player. Gretzky rookie obviously not. I do think they will go up in price as the popularity goes up in the US and younger collectors turn to vintage as they get older. I just bought a ‚79 Bobby Hull yesterday so this was a perfect timing video!
@kenscardboard
@kenscardboard Месяц назад
I agree with you on the prices of 72-79. I think there are not many superstar rookies of those years of hockey, so the sets don't seem to draw as much interest. I think that vintage will likely be steady. Nice Bobby Hull addition. Thanks for hanging out my friend.

You went old school with that Rockies post season shirt. Hahaha. Sorry, I had to. It’s amazing to me that the Avalanche have been in the league for almost 30 years. I was in Estes at the time and loved going to games. I hope vintage Hockey makes a run at some point in the distant future, but not too soon. I’ve been grabbing up what I can. Do I think vintage hockey makes a run? Unfortunately no, but prices on new will still be way overpriced. I love the 71-72 Topps Dryden. Stellar cards, Ken. I really enjoyed the video.

I hope so, Ken! It seems primed to be the next vintage boom with HK scoring back up again. People start looking at the all-time leaderboards to see where the guys like McDavid measure up then the eyebrows go up. The 80's and 90's were insane for scorers and the all-time leaderboards are full of guys who started in the 1990's and earlier. Harder with FB and BK when the all-time leaderboards are always "evolving". Rule and gameplay changes are partially to blame. Awesome cards and backstory on the guys I didn't recognize like McNab. Sweet Lanny and what a copy of the Dryden! Neat guy and that's a sweet run you have there. There is an O-Pee-Chee by the way, yes. My old buddy's dad was friends with Gordie Howe. I still have 2 IP Howe autos (Roger had them signed for me) signed "Gordon Howe" which I thought was cool. May send them out to PSA with a couple celebrity autos I picked up for authentication or dual service. Lastly, they are trying - and the light show is top-notch - but please tell Av's management I (a Wings fan) can make them a 10X better hype song and intro song for 1/2 the price of whatever they paid for that one. I'm serious! I'll make a dubstep track with a bassline so heavy it will tear the roof off the place for their home games. And, GO WINGS!
@kenscardboard
@kenscardboard Месяц назад
So far you're in the minority of people that think vintage hockey will go up. I agree that when other players like Ovi, Crosby, and McDavid start breaking scoring records the vintage players may get a bump. Football, I agree, is much different with so many rules changes and the way the game is played. I bet the Dryden OPC rookie is a pretty penny more than the Topps version. Cool that you have two IP Howe autos. The Avalanche do different hype songs for each game that I have been to. I have only been to a couple other hockey arenas and I would say that the Avalanche are in the middle of the pack. I bet you're serious that you can make a great hype song. Thanks for hanging out at the channel Ben, Go AVS!
@blixcards

@@kenscardboard Haha, thanks for reading all the way through Ken! You obviously get my "humor" or lack thereof. The Av's did rock, what a rivalry with the Wings just epic. Two teams you can count on bringing it every night with future hall of famers all over those teams. I hope the youngsters look into the "Broad St. Bullies", old Montreal Dynasties, and of course the insanity of the Detroit/Colorado rivalry. I watch that footage and it just brings back the adrenaline!

@@Firearcher4, that is an impressive collection. What do you do with all of these cards, store them in boxes or binders, or display them in some manner?

@Firearcher4 28 дней назад
@@kenscardboard Some in boxes. I have my 1965-1973 & 1985-86 cards in hard plastic display holders, which are kept in a large box purchased from a sports card store. Others in binders but am moving away from them as I buy more plastic holders. Started collecting in 1972, bought cards each year until 1991. I was disgusted with Upper Deck who flooded the market and stopped buying anything new from 1992 til now. To this day I loathe UD and refuse to buy anthing they put out. The younger generation who were not around in the 1980's may not understand. Each year OPC put out 1 set. 1 set. It was simple. Upper Deck was greedy and mass produced cards to make a buck.

I was watching Jeremy Lee's livestream and sombody asked a question about other sports selling in Edmonton and Wayne said it's like if you asked somebody from the US how does Hockey sell vs the other sports and Wayne who owns a store across from the Edmonton Mall said the other sports sell more. So Hockey is king in Canada Baseball by us!!! let's look at a scenerio in Canada whose card do you think is more valueable/expensive 1976/1977 Rod Gilbert or a 1977 Johnny Bench let's say in Edmonton, Thunderbay , Paris , Sudbury , Timmins, Earlton all in Ontario except Edmonton? Rookie question since I don't know anything about hockey. Is hockey like baseball in which some teams suffer because of the market they are in? Is there an A's team in hockey?
@kenscardboard
@kenscardboard Месяц назад
@@CleanCheapShots, unlike baseball, hockey does not suffer because of the market. The salary cap is pretty low compared to baseball and you can’t go over like baseball. Most teams have identical payrolls. It is about getting the best players in the draft. Ha, the San Jose Sharks are bad, but they could get good fairly quickly with a couple good draft picks. If a team spends too much on a superstar, they have little left to put good players on the roster. Thanks for hanging out at the channel.
