I just noticed looking at this that Don Taylor, who directed Holden in Damien: The Omen 2, was in several movies with him, as was Nancy Olson.

I'm a big fan of William Holden. Wow, three movies with a rating score above 9.0! I thought that Bridge on the River Kwai would be number 1, but it's not that far behind Sunset Blvd. I have seen 37 movies included in this video plus two films that were not: The Earthling which was Holden's final filmed movie but released before SOB, plus Father Is a Bachelor. The lowest rated film I have seen is Force of Arms. TCM recently had a William Holden Star of the Month when he would have turned 100. That helped my total. My favourite movies are Bridge on the River Kwai, Sunset Blvd., Stalag 17, Sabrina, Born Yesterday, The Towering Inferno, Picnic, Executive Suite, Our Town, Invisible Stripes, The Devil's Brigade, Golden Boy, Escape From Fort Bravo, Love is a Many Splendored Thing , Texas, Alvarez Kelly, and The Man From Colorado. I admire both Network and The Wild Bunch more than I enjoy them. There are some crime films on my to-see list. Favourite posters and stills are from The Bridge on the River Kwai, Sunset Blvd, Stalag 17, The Wild Bunch, Sabrina,, Picnic, Wild Rovers, Our Town, Invisible Stripes, The Devil's Brigade, The World of Suzie Wong, Escape From Fort Bravo, Golden Boy, Love is a Many Splendored Thing, Texas, The Horse Soldiers, The 7th Dawn, Paris When It Sizzles, The Dark Past, The Man From Colorado, Alvarez Kelly, Forever Female, The Key, I Wanted Wings and the final portrait.

Hi Flora, great post! I'm a Holden fan too but I can't match your 37, I've only seen 12 that I know for sure. 37 out of 50 is impressive. My favorites include - The Towering Inferno, Bridge on the River Kwai, Stalag 17, The Wild Bunch, Sunset Boulevard, and Damien Omen II. Thanks for commenting, glad you liked the posters and stills. Another big favorite of yours on wednesday.

Never mind the top 10 I looked at my files and was surprised I haven't got it listed at all. Sorry about that. Some films slip thru the net. Otherwise happy with the top 10?

An updated page on one of Bob and Flora's favorites. My question is when is the next update?....Over at UMR...we have 66 Holden movies ranked.....you gotta go the Full Monty...lol. Overall I have seen 21 of the 50 movies shown. Favorites include the entire Top 5. Two of those Top 5 are some of my dad's all-time favorite movies...#2 Bridge at River Kwai (not first?....shocking) and #4 Stalog 17. #30 Paris When It Sizzles is a fun movie....but gets crushed by critics. Good video. Voted up....and shared on our Holden page. Plus sharing it on some Holden Facebook pages that have been nice to our page. Good stuff.

Thanks Bruce, appreciate the comment, vote, and share. 50 films is plenty for a video, your UMR page can list hundreds. Your 21 beats my 12, Flora's tally was 37. Surprised that Kwai isn't no.1? I thought it was time Sunset Boulevard ruled the roost for a while, Kwai isn't even in the top 5 on your chart! [Bruce gasps] :)

Fairly Accurate....some great films WH made...I would have had ‘Love Is A Many Splendour Thing’ higher and Swop Places Stalag 17 with Wild Bunch...
@Top10Charts3978
@Top10Charts3978 6 лет назад
I can't remember what I had on there, let me see... ah yes... well Wild Bunch was a highly rated western across the board but I know what you mean, Holden winning best actor for Stalag 17. Based on acting performance alone the top 5 would have been in a different order. Holden was excellent in Kwai too, probably more than Stalag 17. The top 3 based on performance - Kwai no.1 followed by Stalag 17, The Wild Bunch at no.3.

No mention of one of his last films, the little remembered movie, the Earthling, which I personally thought showed him as why he was such a great versatile actor.

Sunset Boulevard 1950. Stalag 17 1953. Sabrina 1954. También grandes dramas. Love is a Many-Splendored Thing 1955. Henry King. Picnic 1956 Joshua Logan. The World of Suzie Wong 1960 Richard Quine. Escape from Fort Bravo 1953. John Sturges. The Horse Soldiers 1959 John Ford gran película con el gran John Wayne. Alvarez Kelly 1966 Edward Dmytryk. The Bridge on the River Kwai 1957 David Lean. The Wild Bunch 1969.

Bridge on the River Kwai leaves me cold.....Pretty to look at but that's about it. Some laughable scenes such as the Japanese commander bawling like a baby and our soldiers whistling a happy tune while going to work. Plus it's way too long. i slip into zzzz' s whenever I watch it on TV which is seldom. Sorry, I know everyone fawns over it. For a good war film give me Sam Fuller's The Steel Helmet any day of the week.In October 1950, Fuller made his film in ten days with twenty-five extras who were UCLA students and a plywood tank, in a studio using mist, and exteriors shot in Griffith Park[4] for $104,000. But it all works! Man, what a film . .It is much more taut, suspenseful and nerve racking than Kwai.

Holden was about 10 years too old for Picnic. Proud and the Profane was a From Here to Eternity ripoff.Golden Boy was stupid, even if it did put him over.Man From Colorado was good. Breezy, just plumb stupid.Streets of Laredo was a remake of The Texas Rangers.Texas was good, but silly in spots. 7th Dawn-ridiculous.Alec Guiness stole in the show in Bridge on the River Kwai. Stalag 17 was his best.

THE REVENGERS and CUSTER OF THE WEST (Robert Shaw) are possibly the two worst westerns ever made. The REVENGERS because of its cop-out ridiculous ending, and CUSTER because of its complete lack of any realism.
