Willys Jeep 4 Speed Swap: Transmission Disassembly! 

For years I was afraid of pulling the bearings with a separator like that. Searched forever on u tube and finally found a picture of a guy doing it on a GM 465. Bought an otc kit like that and it worked great. Only took me 30 years 😆

That washer thing on the imput shaft is the oil shield it's to help spread the oil evenly when the oil slinger sends oil up to grease the bearing its so not to must gets in so it doesn't leak too much

You just became even more of my hero when I saw you knocking the reverse idler shaft out in crocs. Love it man keep it up.

Sk makes a compound set of those pliers. Pricey but I couldn't resist. I think Wilde is the other one I have along with craftsman. Can't have too many. May have an emergency lol

For disassembly, you don't need to remove the input shaft bearing in the front.

Interesting swap, I'm curious about a lot of it, so I'll keep coming back.

That washer behind the bearing is an oil slinger. It allows enough oil to lube the bearing but not so much to overload the seal...if it has one. If it doesn't have a seal..like my M21 Muncie don't..and the oil just oozes back through the drain behind the throw out bearing snout, the slinger keeps oil flow down so it doesn't seep out on the clutch. Anyway, you will probably address it later, but I noticed the trans was from a 2X4 or divorced transfer case 4X4, so do you need an adapter and different output shaft?

I got myself a new process 435 4 speed it has a granny low of 6.14 I think I was wanting to though into a tdi swap jeep but it'll need a adaptor for the engine and transfer case to thats a little discouraging it'll be interesting to see your engine adaptor

Had a 79 cj7 with a t18 only replaced front bearing in 180k

why didn't you clean the trans before tear down ?????

I've had a SM-420 trans for 20 years to install into my '55 CJ-5, what is the issue for using that transmission? Spud shaft? Bearings, etc.

Naw just put all the hardware in a big pile if there’s no leftover hardware the job wasn’t done right😆
