i played the V1 98 for 1,5 years and got the V2 98 a week ago and to me personally it is a huge upgrade. I switched to the clash because i had so much wrist pain after plaing tennis that i couldn't hold a cup of coffee for 3 days. That was totally fixed after switching to the Clah. With V2 that is still the case although it is a bit stiffer. And i can really feel that. Serving feels a lot better now. I cannot confirm that V2 feels more pillowy than V1. I personally feel a lot more connected to the racket and i get more power out of it. I guess it comes down to playing style and if you like the feel of the Clash in general. I do and have to say that this upgrade is worth switching from V1 to V2 with the 98. Couldn't be happier. Backhand Slice is a bomb with this racket too.

I’m a 4.5 66 year old doubles (mostly) player and the 108 is a fantastic racquet. I can take a full swing most of the time but it helps to know you don’t have to in a rush. It doesn’t have the control of a 98” players racquet but to say “struggle with control” might be a stretch.

The Clash is not designed for flat hitters. With enough rpms it is very controllable and accurate. As for the "feel" criticisms, by the time you feel contact the ball is already gone, so it has nothing to do with accuracy--that's just a myth.

Love your honest reviews and suggestions for string type/tension. I have demo'd v1 and am curious about v2; enjoy the comfort but not sure if this is the right racquet for me. I'm an intermediate player looking for a heavier but arm friendly racquet to replace my Babolat Pro Aero Lite.

My friends Andrew&Bryce Sr. tried the original Clash&fell in love w/the racquet&bought it. I was curious😶‍🌫️& played the new Clash 98S version with Luxilon Alu Power VIBE string @57/58#. The Clash&"Vibe" together👏🏻was impressive. It had substantial arm comfort compared to stiff racquets. The string snapback at 58 gave good feel and great access to spin. For a more plush feel, one can use lower tensions. The pocketing was sweet & the power was easy w/this string. At the net, i loved the feel of returning crisp hit 💀groundies with forehand & backhand vollies. My arm 💪 felt so good after my play. After all, there is no better day than good hitting with arm comfort. And, i could play the next day banging more balls👏🏻 at the park with a low powered old school Wilson Comp with good "Sensation". That's a back to back thrill.😍🥳

Jonas, please check and make corrections if you agree. I believe the beam widths are just a tiny 0.5mm thinner than V1.0. LAFINO published a video today with the Japan Wilson rep describing the beam widths reductions and the addition of carbon 45 at the top of the hoop. I'm assuming that introduction has increased the torsional stability of the frames thus requiring a change in width size to maintain the overall flex. My guess.

A helpful thing you could include in these review videos is add a short segment where you mention some frames from other brands that might be cross shopped with the racquet you're reviewing. Thank you for the video, it was very helpful. I would like to ask you, I currently play with a Blade 98 V8 16x19 and the feel is great. However, I am starting to have some arm and elbow pain, maybe due to the stiffness of the frame (I really do not know). I want to try the Clash because so many people say that it is arm friendly, but I do not know which model should I try. I am not used to play with 100 SQ racquets, but I do not know if the 98 will be the better choice. Can you please recommend which one you think I should give a try? (I am a mid level intermediate, used to play competitive in college, and play topspin, double-hand backhand counterpuncher style. My set up is a hybrid poly and synthetic at 52 pounds usually) Thank you very much for your help!

Clash 98 with its head size and 16x20 string pattern reminds me of the old Babolat Pure Storm Tour.
@saifuddinmohammed2225
@saifuddinmohammed2225 2 года назад
The string pattern and head size is the only thing that's similar between the two. Pure Storm tour in contrast to the Clash has a very connected yet comfortable feel when striking the ball, not to mention that it's highly control oriented and demands a lot of footwork and early preparation from the player. The Clash is just mushy on contact and provides a lot more spin than the Pure storm

Great racquet review, would be good to see another video on hybrid string configurations that give the best benefits of comfort, power, feel, control and spin. Very interested to see your opinion on the theory that rough strings are best to provide spin on the cross strings and shaped shaped strings are best on the mains for spin based on how the string bed faces the ball at contact when brushing up on the ball. For example. I am looking at using Techni Fibre Triax on mains (power, feel and comfort) and Alu Power rough on the crosses. (spin and control).

Hi Jonas, nice video indeed. I am looking to change my trusted Wilson K Six One Team (95 sq. in / 18x20 / 289 grams / stiffness 58) with a more "forgiving" and powerful racket. Also, I need to preserve my right shoulder from rotator cuff problems. I feel that Wilson Clash 100 V 2 might be the racket I am looking for, I play rather "old style" with 2hand-backhand and I go to the net a lot. I am undecided between the Wilson Clash 100 V 2 and the ProKennex Ki5 295 (100 sq. in /16x20 / 295 grams /stiffness 65). Which one should I buy? Thanks a lot! Marco

Tried the clash 100 v2 yesterday. Generally i liked it, it especially helped me with my serves, also was better able to pocket forehands. However sometimes the raquet behaves a bit erratic and unpredictable. The dampened feel makes it hard to control. I struggled also a lot with volleys.

v2 has higher flex rating.. It doesn't explain or even contradicts with your argument of softer feeling.. 5:45 .. Once my racquet is delivered, I will pay attention to that. The paper says less flexible but maybe the tech makes it feel softer.. I need more feedback from my v1 clash 98. Do you think there s more or less feedback? (ps: I always thought feedback comes from extra vibration thus related to stiffness rating.. but I am not 100% confident on that argument)

i see at nationals junior 14-16 years the final in which a kid beat double size oponent in weight and height,at least 2 year older with a clash 100. it just change my mind about this racquet, the spin and control from him were too good , oustanding ,he could deadl with such heavy balls like a knife trough butter. its a must try this racquet,first i thought it was hype but after seen the match i think this racquet is suit for pro play.also i see some erattic shots from him as everyone said , but they were very rare.basically he had oustanding forehand,backand,slice,drop shots voley everything except the serve because he was very small i think 140 cm.

Lighter rackets are not for lower level players. Some 4.5 and up players are not 6 ft and over. This has to stop. Small world class women tennis players use light rackets.
@lyd9828
@lyd9828 2 года назад
Totally agree. There seems to be this 'machoness' surrounding racket weights. The mass of the racket does not automatically categorise the racket as for advanced players, intermediate etc. I have seen beginners learn to play decent tennis with heavy prostaffs for example, as I did. But that was because I used my dad's old rackets. It usually comes down to what you are comfortable with playing. The head coach at our club, who has an LTA rating of 3.1 (not sure what that translates as in NTPR and the rest but it is regarded as advanced), is 6ft and plays with the lighter version of the pure strike. He prefers it and told me he has never liked heavy rackets. I wouldn't say he's an intermediate player for using a lighter racket. I get the point of guiding new players to lighter frames so they can learn tennis more easily. However, after you get to a decent level and beyond, then any racket can be used. You should choose the racket that suits your game, not base it on weight because you're advanced (or you aspire to be advanced). In the end the racket does not play tennis for you. I know that Jonas has addressed this topic in the past.

Very expensive racket for basically beginners or intermediates- none of the upcoming pros play with it and none of the ATP players endorse it. I can’t see how it sits in the market? If your a beginner I’d buy a cheap racket for $60 or-if I was an aspiring player I’d buy a blade or a pro staff.
