Footage from our trip to the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, California on January 15, 2007. The majority of the stills and video footage was taken by our exchange student.
It's really pretty. The sun shining through the windows makes it look cheerful. I couldn't live there alone but I guess she always had the workers there. Thanks for sharing this.
Nice and beautiful video, and a very fascinating house! I've been reading about the Winchester Mystery House quite a lot and hope to visit it some day. This video helped me picture the house a lot better than all the text could, thank you:)
For those that have asked, the music used for this video is from the soundtrack for the motion picture "Chariots of Fire", which was done by Vangelis. The cut from the album is titled: "Abraham's Theme".
I had a dream about this place when I was about... 7 or 8 maybe, around 1990. I had never heard of it before, and I kept dreaming about these strange stairs that lead to nowhere and wood-panelled walls... The images really stayed with me. Then I saw it in a documentary a few years back, and I was like: "this is EXACTLY like my dream". I didn't mean "it looks and feels a bit like that", it's exactly that. Some of the details I remember are even spookily accurate. I must go there.
I just uploaded a lot of stills with captions, but many of your shots are better than mine. Interesting points of view. W was a tour guide there for a little over two years. I haven't been there now in about five months, I actually kind of miss it. It's a fascinating place.
just got done touring that house today!!!!!!!!! awesome as hell!! creepy but awesome. would go there in Halloween and Friday the 13th though.... but awesome place!!!!!
I just went there last week, it's down the street from my house. It's beautiful, and only slightly creepy. I've been there quite a few times, but never saw a ghost.
I love this video! Never been to Cali or the Winchester House but now I would absolutely LOVE to! I love your still pics and video and that music is so haunting! It just sets your whole clip off! Would you mind sharing the name of that midi?
They had a t.v. show where a psychic had to convince the ghosts of 4 of the servants that they are dead and to cross over. The room where she died (bedroom) was haunted by her and a servant. Sometimes the bed in that room looks like someones sleeping on it. 1 of the other bedrooms was haunted by 3 servants.
She built the house to make peace with all of the ghosts from people who had been killed by Winchester guns. Winchester was a gun manufacturing company that her husband owned, and she inherited his fortune when he died. Then she became convinced that every person who had been murdered by a winchester gun was unhappy with her, so she continuously built this estate to satisfy them (that's her rationale). The house was under construction for 38 consecutive years!
The house is really cool, if you like Victorian architecture of course. Mrs. Winchester was by no means crazy. She spoke several languages fluently, she was highly educated and intelligent. But because her husband and only daughter died early on in her life, she felt cursed. She had loads of money, and was a bit eccentric. Sadly, most of the stories you here-even at the house, are just that. Because she was a recluse, none of their info has ever really been verified.
