Nice explanation on the relationship terrain has on the effect on range and charger anxiety I am 4 months into BEV ownership and live on the east coast, my new knowledge on charger infrastructure locations has greatly reduced my range anxiety on long road trips to the point where I feel I will never go back to ICE vehicle ownership. The driving experience is that much more enjoyable over the ICE model equivalent. The EV ownership is greatly enhanced by charging at home when the EV is not in use. Local trips around town are only pennies in cost.

Local trips are perfect for an EV. No argument.

EV's are still getting a bad wrap from the uneducated haters. I own 4 vehicles and one is a Rivian; It's by FAR the best vehicle experience of my life. 31 year master tech here. Gotta run, I have ICE vehicles to fix.........

Ev are great if you don’t commute far, garage baby it, charge at home, and it’s the second vehicle.

Agreed, it's just that the cost of the "second" vehicle is so damn much. Maybe the EV should be the primary and the second vehicle for long trips a used Prius...

Lovely car Tim. Covered more than 5000 miles in my little 52KW/H EV since February. Thought I’d suffer with range anxiety but it’s been an absolute non issue for me. You’re bang on with the weather. Warmer conditions recently have really improved the range as do a tail wind. New they are really expensive so personally I’d go used, or lease. Still got the diesel compact SUV for long family holidays. Not being used too much inbetween though as my OH enjoys driving the EV so much.

I don't think I would ever want an EV. I make too many long trips. My 80 yr old mother never goes more than 100-150 miles max. An EV would be good for her because no gas or oil to mess with.

You can't be serious, 56,000 for a small two row SUV, plus worrying about wind speed if i dare to use air condition or a heater plus trying to figure out elevation changes, and what to do while it charging if the charger actually work, what happened to a worry free drive through the countryside, then comes the time to trade in, who wants to buy a used EV.

Then don't buy one. The stuff Americans whine about is truly funny. Total breakdown over even the slightest inconvenience. When did whining about everything become the new American way.

Looks like they dropped the price for 2024, about 40K to 48K now.

Do these things come with heart monitors for that range anxiety?

I think most people would be perfectly fine with a EV, if they had a ICE vehicle for those long distance Trips/Vacations. Most people Commute less than 100 miles round trip on a daily basis. Infrastructure aside, which will take decades to become mainstream like your neighborhood Gas station. I think the real issue here is initial costs of EVs. For example I drive a 22’ Ram Laramie, I avg around 50 miles daily round trip and have a garage for Charging. I’ve kept track of how much fuel is costing me for the last six months vs. purchasing a Rivian for 90K. My Current truck payment plus monthly fuel expenses is still less than the Payment of a Rivian RT1. So why would change?
@1diggers1
@1diggers1 5 месяцев назад
I think it will be with in this decade that the charging infrastructure is built up to the point people won't worry about finding a charger. The NACS charger (Tesla charger) is now the standard for N. America so all EVs built in 2024 on will use that charging port, also Tesla has opened a number of charging stations to non-tesla EVs. It looks like Tesla is positioning it's self to be THE charging station. Rivian is also creating a network of it's own charging stations to add to the numbers. 90K for an EV is a hard sell IF it's about saving money. However, a model 3 for mid 30K or the Rivian R2, smaller SUV, for supposedly 45K makes more sense.

Oh EVs… every video goes the same way. Car is great, fancy tech, Range anxiety, charger problems, needing to have advanced knowledge of the topography, elevation, and only drive the direction the wind is blowing. Afterwards it’s like, well it only cost me Pennie’s on the dollar to do this compared to gas. First off there are very few of these around. Secondly there are reasons why oil prices are high and in Canada there is a big reason why fuel is expensive. Early adopters of EVs might be shocked when they see as energy consumption increases and new infrastructure upgrades are done that electricity costs will rival that of gas. With all that, I’ll end on this note. I have every iPhone blackberry and Samsung flip phone I have ever owned. The one constant in lithium batteries over the years is that they are always great for the first year, the second year is pushing it, by the 3rd you are buying a new phone because the battery won’t hold charge and/or is dangerously swollen. Now what makes anyone think the lithium batteries in cars will be any better? I’ve seen one Uber driver on the news complaining that he drove his EV for a year or so and now needs to fork out 5 figures for a new battery?

I think evs are interesting but you have to shop for your needs. I hate that its gotten political and your family or friends can go nuts if you consider it or not. do what's good for you. I would like the fact to charge at home vs going to gas stations and get hassled by the homeless that our country wont do anything about that is just one matter but not everyone pulls a load down the road or takes long trips. be happy for your friends and family. Jesus loves us all. Dont want a Ev thats cool . Don't want a gas vehicle anymore thats cool too. The tech can only get better.

It seems odd that a 180 mile round trip was questionable if you were going to make it, were gas vehicles could make that easy on a full tank.

The Ariya should have been released under the Infiniti brand. The fit and finish appear to be nice enough, and people would be more willing to pay a bit more.

7 dollars a gallon where I live now. Watched a kids soccer try out last night with the heat on, not sitting there idling glug glug glug with the Hemi for heat. 40 degrees f and blowing wind. Drive in will be nice with it too this summer with the AC, and real easy to turn the heatlights off with the vehicle on.

The range anxiety got you based on the efficiency you reported at the end. Thanks for sharing what a normal person would probably feel in the first year or so with their first EV. This was part of the conversation I had with my spouse when I was considering getting an EV to replace my Giulia. The EV converts seem to have a blasé “trust me” attitude towards range anxiety and it comes across as condescending.
