UPDATE: I have a new channel now with more "how to" on. / @samsea1336 A detailed video on how to remove the motor from any windlass, what to look for inside, how to clean it and then most importantly how to put it back together again.
This is one of the absolutely best technical videos I have seen on RU-vid, and I've watched thousands. Cheers to you sir!! What a fantastic explanation!
Hello from SV TiKi, I thought you explained and showed 'how to' quite well. I had a problem with my new windless but it turned out to be the power cables, they had totally burnt out. This was not picked up when we purchased the vessel but I'm glad it happened when we were just off the mainland and able to get descent replacements. All good on this 1994 Atlantic 44,quit a smart vessel.
A friend replaced his windlass when it was having power issues. When he put on the new one it had the same problem. He realized it was the cable to the windlass. He was going to throw the old one away, when I told him he can throw that right on my boat because it was the same exact model I had. Spare parts are a beautiful thing.
Thank you for the demo. I was given a windlass had the posts rotated to the side. I thought I would have to remove the screw on the side of the housing to rotate the case. Now I see it is just the plate that needs to be removed and placed correctly. Since I'm there I might as well check and clean everything, then repaint it.
Love your work and timing. We just got our new boat, our last boat had a muir. The new one has that winch. I thought mmmm before we head off I should service it. Thinking it looks different and I haven't got a clue. Bang I get home and bump into your video. Thanks for your work.😄
Marty Morse that's what we intended, thank you for watching! If you want to know how to fix anything on boats please suggest something? Please remember to like and subscribe!
Great video, did it end up working well after that? I have almost the same windlass and the exact same issue, so I was wondering if your cleaning inside the motor fixed the issue. Thank you!!
I recently purchased a used Tigress.. It tested OK but after i filled it with oil, i observed that it was slowly losing that oil. It was first observed seeping from the motor housing, but it was getting there through the gearbox/motor interface. That interface looks a bit untidy (corrosion) but not bad enough to cause that scale of oil leak. I could add sealant but i suspect that i missing a seal or gasket. Any suggestions?
