Great video! I live in a VERY noisy city-neighborhood and we often deal with firework noise. My building itself is very soundproof (rarely hear neighbors, on the top floor), but there's A LOT of noise that comes in through closed windows. To handle firework noise (for when we're sleeping, and for our nervous dog), what would be the best method? We have 6 ft by 2 ft windows that have a deep sill (about 1.5 feet). Would a layer of acoustic paneling sitting in the pane, and then a larger one velcroed around the whole window work best? What about around a window AC unit? Any help would be beyond appreciated!

About that barrier panel. Looked like a nice easy installation. Doesn't look like the store you linked sells them in window sizes though. Would you just stack them? Or are they not study enough to stack 4 feet high across 6 feet? Or is there a more cost effective solution at this size that will deaden what comes through the double pane window?

Me and my family lost our home in the California wildfires as a result we are forced to live in what I consider less then desirable housing with little to no insulation and very old single pain windows so everything we say or do in our home is heard by the entire neighborhood almost like on an entercom. This is very very troubling to me mostly because it's not a good neighborhood but also because I greatly value my privacy. Your tips and tricks have helped us to regain some of our privacy as well as to ease my mind. Thank you.

I nailed up several quilts over the bedroom window to reduce the train horn noise. Ran the nails down sides and bottom too plus bought a white noise for babies machine. It's helped a lot. Can still hear the horns but they are very muffled now. It's a cheap quick way to reduce noise a bit. I hung the curtains over the quilts so you don't know they are there.

I put 5mm thick plexiglass sheets over my caravan window frames. Both sound proofing and insulation were greatly improved. Not expensive and still have great views. Easy, precise DIY installation only involving measuring, cutting with an ultra thin diamond angle grinder disc and pilot holes in the frames and plexiglass to avoid potential cracking when fitting.

This is a good list. Here's a product that takes your first option to another level of effectiveness. isole-sound-barrier-sheet It's like a sound blanket but it's lined with MLV or mass loaded vinyl, which is 1 pound per square foot. Each panel is about 20 lbs and feels almost like a led apron you wear when getting an x-ray at the dentist.

I'd love more information on step 6. It sounds like a perfect solution for me but I don't fully understand the directions. Firstly you mention installing a metal frame around the window, how do I go about doing that? does it need to be metal? Then something with magnets and an airtight seal? id love a video on how to do this.
@duongquanghuy2023
@duongquanghuy2023 2 года назад
He meant that the separate acrylic layer should be surrounded by magnetic materials to make contact with your metal-framed existing windows. And around the magnetic frame of your new layer, add a airtight seal line to fit it perfectly to the gap area of your window. It's like the option with airtight seal he mentioned in the video as well with some silicon/foam band to wrap around the edges. Hope this helps.

My new double pane windows do help with noise, and are a lot cheaper than I thought they'd be. I'm probably going to opt for those foam sections for ease of install and removal in a room with an OLED where I don't want any outside light. Does that room need a window? Yes, if I ever plan on selling.

Hi, do you think we can use caulking for the edges of a window to produce a silicone seal that works better than the weatherproof seal? The weatherproof seal is a bit too big to use over there and the problem is in between the panels of the sliding window as well as when the panel meets the frame

Since I moved to a new house and my neighbor has like 8 dogs in their back yard, kind suddenly becasue before I moved in, they only had 1 dog, and they they kind bark a lot, espically in the early moning, I ordered the LOW-E double pane with thicker pane filled with argon gas, I don't know if it is enough to block like 70% of the barking. I live in front of a school where a loader cleans snow during nights to be ready for morning after a snow storms. What would be the best way to soundproof my 2 windows so that I don't hear the motor sound (the beep beep sound when backing is off so it's not an issue)? I want to keep the windows in place which are double pane (I don't think triple pane windows would do the job). I know you are proposing several solutions in your video but want to know what you think is the best way for this particular situation (block the sound of the loader). I am looking also at soundproofing my walls.
@maxxcastillo9347
@maxxcastillo9347 4 года назад
That depends on how you soundproof your walls. If you're merely adding a second layer of drywall to make your wall more dense, then your best option would be to use a heavy, sound blocking curtain that sits tight to the wall. If you're building a second, decoupled wall, then consider adding a second window to that wall. You'll have 2 windows stacked front to back, but the air gap between the two will work much better than a curtain would. Just ensure that the interior window is sealed well to prevent sound from making it through the gaps. Adding a curtain in addition to the decoupled window will be the best solution

So... if I have a loud commercial exhaust fan on my apt. roof (several feet above my head) that often makes sleep impossible, what should I do? What range of frequencies comprise an exhaust fan's aural attack, anyway? Also, if you recommend foam weatherstripping tape with adhesive backing, should it be open cell or closed cell foam? I've seen different reviews with diametrically opposed views on the subject, depending on the frequency of the noise. And if it's low frequencies that comprises this massive aural attack profile, then what? Thank you for your help.
@DoritoStyle
@DoritoStyle 4 года назад
TaichiStraightlife That is a real problem, because it’s touching your roof and causing the roof to vibrate, this generating sound. I don’t know of a way to solve that without involving construction :(
@TaichiStraightlife
@TaichiStraightlife 4 года назад
Wow, that was awhile ago, so many things have happened, mostly Covid 19. This is in NYC & all the bars (the fan belongs to a sports bar) have closed, so: blessed silence. It's one of the few benefits of the pandemic. The downside is, they'd AGREED to construction, to move it a bit... I didn't believe my luck... THEN THIS!!! Are they gonna back out, now ("sorry, we no longer have the money to devote to the fan" )? I know, I know; I'm still lucky that I'm not sick or dead, and millions have suffered catastrophic losses, I get that... still, it's meaningful to me, I can't pretend it isn't, and I do have a sense of proportion. Thanks for writing back.

Additionally, you can get acoustic double glazing. It's the same as regular except 1 pane is thicker. This is so that when the outward facing pane vibrates with noise, the inner one doesn't vibrate at the same rate due to the difference in density. This makes it quieter as less vibration transfers through to the inside space

@DoritoStyle

Cohero For compete quiet, use method number 1 to block the window with wall material. The glass is the weak point for sound (especially low frequency).
@David-bc4rh
@David-bc4rh 4 года назад
My low frequency noise pollution comes from stereo bass. I plan to build a removable panel assembly for my front 72in x 50in window. I've built the interior face out of mostly scrap wood and sealed it up and it looks pretty, just need to set the top hatch hinges and mount the beast. From there, I'm going to build frames for various thin panels to inter-layer . I'm going to have to reinforce the whole wall, but it needs gutting anyway.

Foam panels won’t really help that much compared to some thick curtains or even a soundproof blanket from audio mute that would fit the contour of the window casing. You could use velcro all around to make a tight seal and then take it off in the morning. Hope this helps

Good Morning. We recently purchased a home near a train track that runs coal trains throughout the day and night. I want to inslutate the bedrooms from the train noise for sleep time. Unfortunately, the builders used contractor grade double pane windows that don't have the best seal properties. Some of your ideas may work but I tend to think window replacement may me necessary. Thoughts? Also, is a slow moving freight train noise easily abatable?

How can i reduce the noise from my shower penetrating through the wall to my son's bedroom. I wake him up most of the time. I am assuming no insulation interior wall. Btw, i used your idea of MLV on a shared condo bedroom wall and it worked. I did 5/8 drywall over it alternating joints and used acoustic caulk instead of compound. I am covering it with a wood wall treatment anyhow. So thank you..... Cost $1000 but we'll worth it. Need help with this issue.... Between the noisy water and exhaust fan. Should I do the same thing with MLV and sheetrock?
@carolcarol4916
@carolcarol4916 3 года назад
Or should i remove existing drywall, insulate then sheetrock, then MLV, then sheetrock????
@soundproofguide
@soundproofguide 3 года назад
Thank you for the update Carol! I’m happy you’ve had great results! I would remove the drywall and add insulation but not in the cavity where the water pipes are located. You should then wrap the water pipe with MLV. This will reduce and deaden the water noise. Then cover up with two layers of drywall. Thanks for watching and sharing your soundproofing results!
@carolcarol4916

K, wrap the pipe, makes sense. Messy to remove the 1/2 inch but well worth it to do it right and not hear the water running. Thank you

Hi I am in Quarantine In India. Any tips on Soundproofing a Room in an Apartment for Home Recording. I also don't have access to material as we are in a lockdown and all I have is Cardboard, Blankets, Duct Tape, Carpets and Pillows. Would Appreciate any help as I am in the process of Recording an album and I can't go to a Studio. I have the recording equipment but I have not done any soundproofing for the Room.

Is it for music or just voice recording? Instead of having a full room to soundproof you could make an isolation box with the cardboard and blankets you have. Here’s a link to I video I’ve made. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LwOranqyt4U.html
