DUDE YOUR METHOD JUST SAVED MY BUSINESS BROTHER , PLEASE CONTINUE TO POST MORE VIDEOS AND LESSONS ON TINTING
@masaiburnett7234

Dude, thanks for sharing. I learned a long time ago that watching an expert make their craft look easy is INSPIRATION-not EDUCATION. So I just DIY’d my first rear windshield, and it’s got more fingers than a keyboard convention. But some areas came out like I knew what I was doing, and I’m pumped! Buying a 100ft roll of 5% film from eBay, and I’m gonna use your videos as a learning guide to practice. Because like they say, “Anything that’s worth doing, is worth doing BADLY-until you get it RIGHT.”

Masai also realize that different brands and type of tints will shrink differently too. Some tints shrinks easily and other like ceramic will not shrink as well and require a bit of different technique.

I started with wet also and oh boy did I destroy a LOT of film. Wet is for the more experienced for sure. But I find that dry shrinking is more even across the board instead of aggressively shrinking smaller areas as in wet shrinking. Thanks for watching!!

Hey man! Just wanted to let you know your video helped me out a lot! I've never tinted windows before and I'm doing it for the first time for my 73 GMC Motorhome restoration. I had watched a lot of videos and read a lot online but nothing was working. The RV windows were very curved and I was ending up with a lot of bubbles. After watching your video and using this dry shrink method it worked out very well! A few creases but I was being pretty aggressive with the squeegee at times. Thanks so much, saved me a bunch of labor cost to install tints and I picked up a new skill. It finally "clicked" after watching this. For others, some of the most important tips I've picked up as a beginner are: 1.) You can ONLY shrink to the factory-cut edges. Period. It won't work the other way. After tacking down the "H" draw the slack in your top and bottom halves into vertical finger bubbles. Try to keep them vertical as you continue to shrink. 2.) You can make effective slip/application fluid by mixing (~1/4tsp, doesn't need much) baby shampoo with (~1qt) DISTILLED water. Distilled water will not leave water marks or streaks. And it's cheap, pick up a gallon for $1 at the grocery store while you're buying the baby shampoo. 3.) Imagine the tint as a sheet that you're stretching over the glass (cuz it is). When you heat it up, you're taking up slack in that area by shrinking it. Keep pushing the bubbles (the slack) to the edges and keep shrinking as you go. Some bubbles may need more aggressive persuasion with a hard squeegee but be careful not to crease the film. Use the hand method in this video to work out most of the bubbles. 4.) If you need to start over, try to pull the film off before the adhesive starts to dry. If you pull it off and there's adhesive on the glass, it should be soluble in isopropyl alcohol. Pick up some low concentration (50-70%) while you're at the store. You can then use that to dissolve the glue and squeegee it off... it may take some time but it works. 5.) Don't buy the cheapest tint you can find. You'll just be setting yourself up for failure. If you're just getting started you need a quality film that is easier to apply -- don't make it harder for yourself. Also don't buy 20" x 20" auto-store tint rolls for $40/piece. You can get decent film in bulk online. I got 36" X 50' for about $140. You'll need more than you think.

What a great video, straight and to the point! Did you wet the dryer sheet beforehand? Seemed like it was wet. I've been tinting my own windows using precut kits for several years, have probably done 20 cars and they've turned out great. I've never been able to get the back glass on a car though, I either scorch or crease the tint. I've tried dry shrinking with baby powder but still no luck. I'll try a dryer sheet.

@WindowTintingBusiness

No I wouldn't say that. I would say to keep the heat gun moving in circular patterns and move the heat gun farther away from the tint. You'll find that there is a good distance that works perfectly, not so close that you'll burn the film but not so far that you can't heat the film to its shrinking point.

To a certain point yes. If the film is super cheap and thin (less than 1.5 mils) then shrinking is harder in my opinion. But I know mid grade films that shrink better that top of the line films. It’s the cheap stuff that typically makes it hard to shrink.

You make this look far too easy! I’ve been trying to shrink my back glass and it seems to move similar to yours, so I glide my hand across and it won’t stick down. Apply a little more heat and then it bunches together like the back side side of a crunch bar... it doesn’t burn or anything just almost looks like it bubbles without any damage to the tint
@George-eg7zx
@George-eg7zx 4 года назад
The trick is that the film won't just stick down when it shrinks. You have to move the extra slack away from where you just shrunk the film. Work it slowly at a steep angle towards the edge and the film should tighten up in that area. Kind of like pulling a sheet over a bed (but dragging it with a squeegee or your hand instead of pulling on the edge). Then shrink the area you just moved the slack to. Keep doing that until the bubbles are gone.

@WindowTintingBusiness
@WindowTintingBusiness 7 лет назад
I personally think that dry shrinking is much easier and better. If you're dry shrinking and have the right tools then the rest is experience and time. It takes time to get used to how much heat to put on the film, too much and you'll burn it too little and it doesn't shrink. Most films will hold up on most cars, until you get to really curvy windows like a charger, bug, GTI, etc. Just keep practicing and it will come. If you're shrinking and you mess up on a window and crease it just keep going and shrink the entire window the practice will be good for you.

also christopher if you do crease the film there is a method you can use to heat the film and remove the crease, just depends on the severity of the crease, i think Patrick shows this method in one of his videos, if its not him it may have been Ralph Van Pelt, but watch as many videos as you can and practice practice practice

Do you have the dryer sheet wet or dry?

Wet down the dryer sheet the rub all over back window then let enough time to dry completely before you start shrinking.

Seems some tint doesn’t shrink so easily

This is true. Some shrink better than others but they all have the same basic fundamentals.

Why is it on the outside? In uk im sire its on the inside and has a stupid film cover u have to peel off why applying it which makes the film crease before u get near the window lol

this is just shrinking the film not the install. You need to form it to the glass before installation.

Check out this video I did. At the 17 min mark I talk about a new technique I've been working on specifically for new tinters to help them shrink back windows. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wIMoq_tmTrk.html
