Saw these guys in concert back in 88, and Kip sounded exactly like he does on record...... it was live, but it was obvious the guy could sing. No tricks or gimmicks like today......
Top 20 tune and video of the era. Simple, straight-forward with a touch of mystery, musicianship and stage presence are classic. Quite a masterpiece of flowing rock music. Notice how every dramatic change melts with each other and seems like a well-loomed musical tapestry. Solid classic tune that never gets old. That's the true test. Winger scored with this one.
Saw them live back in the day. It was in Marquette, MI. They were playing with Slaughter & Kiss. Wow, that was a fun show. Kip Winger had one of the best live voices I've ever heard.
Nobody sounded like this band, the style, look and overall package was really different when they broke. Every member of this band had a resume a mile long before they formed up. Top notch musicians who could write catchy hooks at the same time. That is a rarity in this type of music.
Managed to sneak backstage at a Winger concert my junior year in high school. I was 17 and when I met that "hot, too much of a man Kip". I said some pretty interesting things to him. He was a gentleman and thanked me for my complements. Oh, the things we do and say when we are young!
I've seen Winger way back in 1989 with Bulletboys and Badlands ( awesome band ) opening for CINDERELLA at the Shoreline ampitheatre in Mt view, Ca. ive never seen so many women like that before. lots of women everywhere
I used to love this song when I was young then I heard my daughter play it in her fast car with her loud stereo and she was 17 and then I thought "OH HELL NO!!!!!!!" lol I do really love the song still though :)
Sherie Marie. I was there too. lol. also saw that show in Knoxville. I've been to over 200 shows. I used to follow Metallica around before they were on MTV. seen them 14 times before 1991. and I've always said that Reb Beach was the best guitarist I've ever seen live. ( until Lindsey Buckingham in 2009 ). Reb blew me away. unbelievably underrated
80's bands are just the best rock music - I will listen forever.........like the KISS song God gave rock and roll to you, gave rock and roll to you Put it in the soul of everyone
Good Lord!!!!! Loved me some Winger! I remember ditching school with my little sister, running all over Chicago to find Kip, who was making a radio appearence and claiming it was my 17th birthday... Yeah, I was 15..... Ahhh, those were the days!!!!
So many bands were jealous of Winger, but they in their own right are über talented. They would knock Kip for his good looks and tried to smear the musicians' reputations as awesome performers by saying everything was taped, but it wasn't. Winger was a band full of talented men, just a shame they got caught up in the industry in the late 80's when grunge was on its way in.
People make fun of these bands now, but let's think about this. They all played their own real instruments, there weren't many bass and drum machines and the singers could actually sing not needing heavy auto tuning. So they had bad hair and dressed terrible, who didn't in the 80's? Great song and hot video!!!
Agreedon Winger and Dokken....Slaughter was pretty kick-ass too. Today's music, even the so-called metal doesn't have the killer guitar riffs that it used too, so sad :(
Winger is gonna play at Sweden Rock this year, can't wait to see them!! I think they deserve(d) more fame cuz they're in my top 5 favorite hair metal bands, the other 4 being Warrant, Ratt, Cinderella, White Lion among many others that i still like extremely much!
Now that's music. He plays really well. I blame producers/media for not letting today's musicians take their talent as far as they could without interference.
Winger is awesome! Unfortunately I was born in 1989, so I totally missed on the hair metal era...damn it. I hate today's music...hell I just hate the 21st century period. 80s metal will always be the best hands down!
Frank Di is right. They came in too late, just around when grunge was hitting the scene. Couple years sooner, they could have grabbed hold better, but they slipped away, thats too bad, they were good.
Look, back in the day I told everyone KC and the Sunshine band rocked and history proved me right. Now I'm telling you Winger rocks no matter what anyone says. Better musicians than the Grunge craze which killed Winger. Sometimes it takes time to get everyones opinions on target.
