Hey, Thanks for the video. For me i find the best is Daler Rowney linseed stand oil, its thick like honey and it dry faster naturally not by forcing chemicals. i haven't tried Winson & newton honestly and i would like to.

In response to this question from Sara Nazirli: "Can I use linseed oil and poppyseed oil together in oil paint? I mean can I mix them together?" Yes, they’re compatible! A mixture of the two will dry faster than poppy but slower than linseed, and form a stronger paint film than poppy oil alone.

+Ana Clerins West If you use traditional linseed oil it will start to negate the paints ability to be easily washed out with water. If you need to thin the Artisan, consider their watersoluble linseed oil: www.dickblick.com/products/winsor-and-newton-artists-painting-medium/ .

Perhaps I am not using this correctly but as a ‘newbie’ to oils. Whenever I add linseed oil to my paint I seem to use quite a lot due to the paint not spreading far enough on my med sized canvas. I see other artists and they use a small amount of it and it seems to go such a long way. What am I doing wrong. And I’m confused about the lean to thick method. Etc. thanks in advance. Hi, guys. I am not painter and therefore am seeking for a piece of advice. I wanted to paint world's map on a piece of wood and have found that in one of the forums on internet people are saying they always use oil paint/colors for that. I have bought Winsor&Newton Winton Oil color, however it is not drying. Isn't it going to actually dry on wood? Shall I use another type of paint for that? I need a little bit of help here. Thanks a lot.

+Ieva Valinskaitė Acrylic paint would probably have been the better choice, as it will dry within a day. However, because you have already used the oil, you cannot apply the acrylic on top of it. The oil will eventually dry, but it can take 3 - 5 days to dry completely and will still actually be wet inside for several months.

Are these oils a fire hazard?

The oils used in painting are vegetable oils are very similar to cooking oil, and as such don't present any risk of flammable fumes like volatile solvents. (Despite the similarity, however, art supply oils aren't food-safe.) The risk of combustion exists when drying oils are distributed over a large surface area, like when rags are saturated with oil (or gloves or steel wool). When these oil-saturated materials accumulate, heat from oxidation (drying) builds up, and as heat increases, oxidation accelerates and the result can be spontaneous combustion, even without spark or flame. In the bottle, on a brush, or on a palette or canvas, there is no risk of combustion, so bottles of linseed oil don't need any special storage measures, unless the package indicates doing so. A single oil-soaked rag can be left flat to dry and discarded, but an accumulation of rags should be placed in a lidded metal can with water in the bottom, and emptied after every day. Hope this helps!
