Hello Lisa and a Happy New Year! I’m glad to have found your youtube Channel… it’s a joy to watch your video. You have a calm voice and relaxed style. Your new Norwegian knitting book looks fabulous… patterns to knit for years to come, I guess. Knitting a pair of mittens is on my to-do list for 2023, and I’m looking forward to it. Your piano playing is really beautiful! I can hear you pay attention to a beautifully balanced sound. Thank you so much for mentioning my RU-vid channel 🙏 … I’m not really a regular RU-vidr but when I’ve finished a new video I always mention it on my Instagram account. I wish you a lovely Sunday. Best wishes from Belgium, Marjam 🌷By the way… PiaKnits is a combination of ‘pianist’ and ‘knitting’… a great find by my children.

Greetings dear Marjam. I feel the same about your channel…there is something very soothing in the sound of your voice…your creativity is very inspiring. This past year I retired from my teaching job as a secondary math teacher. I had not played the piano for many decades and am learning again, so your compliment means a lot to me. Thank you. Take care and have a lovely week. Oh yes, I just had to mention that clip of your little grandson improvising with dad was priceless. 🥰

I'm loving this breed study series. Thanks Lisa! I understand about seeking projects you can use vs following the trends. I use my spinning and knitting as a distraction from the stresses in my life. I don't put anything out quickly. I did try out the mitten pattern featured on the cover of the latest Spin Off magazine. I love seeing you play the piano! I should get back into playing piano.❤

Lisa dear you are a jewel. Most people only do youtube for the money. I truly love and appreciate all you share and do. Love your mitten, I too only learned to knit a few years ago at a late age. I've not tried colorwork yet but only knit things we need.

You are too sweet! Thank you ☺️. Color work is not too hard at all. I just tend to knit a bit too tightly when I knit with 2 colors for some reason.

I totally missed out on Hill Radnor. Thank you for introducing them! I love the colour of your Lopi sweater! Can't wait to watch your next video. So much inspiration! I'm in my mid thirties and I only got back to crafts three years ago. I was sewing and crocheting as a child. Now I learned spinning and needlebinding. In the next few years I will definitely give knitting another try - I dropped out of it after like three rows as a child, because I was working so tightly that I had difficulties getting the needle back into the stitch. Now I see all those patterns and fantasize about knitting legwarmers and sweaters and cardigans...

I am enjoying this Breed study very much. I decided to subscribe to one in Canada (as I live here) from Longway Homestead and then stumbled upon your podcast again. I had subscribed and watched a year or so ago. I love podcasts but really have to sift through them now as so many of them were about acquisitions and frivolous stuff and it got pretty annoying, especially with everything we are dealing with in the World. 2 very lovely podcasters that I am enjoying are Stitches and Starlight (spinner and knitter) and The Black Sheep Knitter. Watching them is like having a conversation in your home with your knitting and spinning friends. Looking forward to the next episode. Oh and I was always a monogamous knitter. I ran into trouble last year because I thought I too could have several projects on the go and of course the inevitable happed - I still have 3 projects languishing in bags waiting patiently for me. Going forward and dealing with the stash I have decided to knit for other people so that I dont end up with a huge number of cardigans and jumpers. I have been ripping back some of the ones I made about 5 years ago because they just do not fit right, but am being very careful in choosing what I want for myself now.

I’ve just started going through your winter breed study videos that I’d saved to my Watch Later list and I just wanted to say how much I am enjoying them. Also it doesn’t matter when you learned to knit as you are clearly very accompolished by now, if those gorgeous mittens are anything to go by. I think many new knitters don’t realise that you don’t have to know all the techniques and that even very experienced knitters are going to have areas that they are very comfortable with and areas that they don’t know that much about. I’m much more comfortable with knitting socks and lace, than jumpers and colourwork, but have knitting friends that are the complete opposite.

I want to thank you for choosing not to monetize your channel. You're very generous with your time and expertise, and are always advocating for other makers, and only do this for connection and community. It's so nice to be able to watch without the interruption of ads every 6 or 7 minutes, or whatever, even though I understand that some have the need or desire to be compensated for their efforts. If you ever decide to do Kofi or Patreon I would happily support:) Thanks so much!

I have been a long time viewer and I always enjoy you channel! I was extra excited when I saw that you were knitting from a book written by some people I have knit with before ! The saltwater knits books! The two author and I would frequent the same knitting shops and knit knits. They are lovely! And the patterns in these books are wonderful! And yes still used today here in Newfoundland where I was born and raised and still live!. And yes you pronounce Newfoundland correctly, a lot of people do not. I am enjoying your winter breed study very much!. I mostly spin corriadale. That is the same fibre Briggs and little iyarn is spun with if I am not mistaken , in fact it is from Briggs and little the fibre I buy.( I buy it from a shop who gets it from them ) also the spinning you have done for the mitts are perfect! ❤

What a great idea for a series of videos! Thank you for doing this breed study. It's been fascinating. On the topic of ethical consumption; I definitely struggle with it myself. When I first started spinning I just collected any and every batt just because I wanted to support people. Now that I know more about the craft, I've realized I'm more of an intentional spinner and I've learned to buy fiber for what I want to make instead of just randomly. Instagram and social media can definitely be a trap.

Dear Lisa, When you were talking about the feel of the fiber and that it feels like "old world" I know exactly what you mean... I don't know why but I usually refer to those fibers as "honest". You have also touched on something that I've been thinking for a while.... consumerism and also how we choose to spend our time. It is indeed a very deep topic, but lately I have been also asking myself "How many jumpers do I really need, or want for that matter?" Thank you for the ending... it is very special to hear you play. And that yarn bowl.... so beautiful. Kisses. Ivana ❤

I just watched your video and you reminded me of something. My mother would draw the sweater she was making in a notebook and write down the measurements and then she would make it. I remember her taking my measurements and writing them down next to the drawing. She made me the most beautiful turtle neck sweater. I also remember her frogging one of my father's cardigans and making him a new one. I would love to make a shawl pattern I purchased years ago with heritage breeds (it calls for six different yarns) but I don't spin. I have bought a drop spindle but have not chance to use it.

Lovely podcast, Lisa, and happy Epiphany. I love your breed studies. I took my daughter to visit Newfoundland a few summers ago - before the pandemic - and we drove all the way around the island trying to spot icebergs and marveling over the many lakes and “ponds.“ Maybe because it was summer, but I did not see any evidence of fiber arts while I was there, which now I find regretful. But the mummers parade is a very interesting thing and I encourage you to look into that more deeply. Lovely people up there ❤ Love your mittens!! And also have several Hearthside Fibers combed tops! Good Evening, Lisa; I'm really enjoying the breed study! Wondering if you could share information on options if we wanted to conduct out own breed study. Like how did you come across the samples of the breeds? Are there work study/planners out there covering the breeds and how to work through them? Regarding your knitting habits, I'm starting to stash away my finished projects for the next Christmas season; I like you don't need 50 shawls, 25 cowls, etc. etc. etc.... so I'll share my knitted goods with family and friends as gifts. Hi Lisa, I really enjoyed this! You are going to have a wonderful heirloom blanket by the end of your breed study. I have a question. Do you prefer 2 ply yarns? I was watching another podcaster and she was discussing 2 vs 3 ply yarns and was suggesting people try 3 ply for the roundness of the yarn. I am going to try it and see if I like the results.
@SoulfulSpinning
@SoulfulSpinning Год назад
Hi Lori! I usually spin 2 ply, but I made a couple skeins in 3 ply and the yarn was very round and cushy in my mukluk slippers I made out of it. I’ve done some chain ply for socks once I liked it, but I feel my style of spinning woolen makes my 2 ply a bit rounder and fluffier than a worsted 2 ply. I’ll have to experiment. Let me know how you like it too if you get a chance.
