So glad you will continue your podcast. Yours is one of the best that I watch. You cover so many diverse topics and always inspire me to learn more about the fiber arts. Felting is something I have wanted do for sometime and this year I am going to take an online class. Thank you for the encouragement.

that blended top you made looks gorgeous! I thought I'd also let you know that I've found exactly one farm relatively locally that will sell polwarth fleeces to spinners. I still find it really strange that I live in the state and country that Polwarth was developed and most of the fleeces don't even get processed in this country anymore. its weird to think that Australia and USA both have pretty huge sheep industries, and yet we each have these anomalies when it comes to consumption from that industry.

If you’ve enjoyed “Vera”, have you also come across “Shetland” and “The Long Call”? I’m not sure whether they have been made available in the USA but they are also based on books by Ann Cleeves. I particularly enjoyed “Shetland”; nothing like a bit of armchair travelling - maybe one day I’ll get to go to Shetland Wool Week, until then I’ll get my Shetland fix vicariously!

Plus i haven't sold any fiber for the last 6 years. ...and it may be the fact that I have alpacas too 😉 haha my next goal is to build a peg loom which will use up some fiber if I spin super bulky

Settled on a backward draw, similar to what you were doing (short fwd doesn't work for me). The Winter 2022 issue of Ply Magazine has an article "Spinning Bulky from Fine," which might be of interest. Thanks for all you do.

I finally measured my feet. Yikes! I'm right there with you in size. I've started making the leg shorter to compensate, LOL! I have one old lame ewe (Hampshire), her two daughters (1/2 Tunis). So I find it interesting to see what the genetics do to the fleece. I like the daughter's fleece (Nicola and Tesla) best. A little stronger, but still crimpy and soft. So now I have to decide where I go from here. Maybe Gulf Coast Native? But Polypay, Cormo, BFL, Wensleydale, Teaswater. The joy of having just a few sheep and a couple of babies every year. I also have one angora rabbit. So very many possibilities. Someone asked me one time why I spin. The answer is simple, but the questioner will never get it, "Why not?" I enjoyed this one very much.

LisaR : A question ? Did you first wash the "baby "before flicking? I've had this with a few of my fleeces and it was not washing out after multiple scours. I wonder now how much time I would have saved if I'd seen your video before those preps ! One was a 2nd place overall winner (merino ) - The tips on some locks just wouldn't give up the combo of lanolin / dirt to wool wash , hot water . I nearly cut the tips off ( But cooler head prevailed) .I'll never underestimate the modest simple flicker tool again :)Lisa, the hat swatch is smart thinking . What a perfect way to "not swatch " , get real information that's accurate, & a beautiful hat ! Thanks for sharing this bit of genius:) Ps. Yes! It will be fabulous to hear about what you're finding intriguing. If you record it , it's never failed to be so GOOD!
@SoulfulSpinning
@SoulfulSpinning Год назад
Hi there! Yes, I did wash that Romney before flicking.. It got all the grease out, especially since Romney is not very high grease like merino. I read somewhere that you can actually cut the tips off though I never want to take scissors to my wool. 😝 You could even flick the tips before washing but I worry I would not be able to I’d the lock structure. Of course if you go with a coated fleece ( more $$) you usually don’t run into that too much. But you know sometimes it’s “clean enough” and you’re always going to wash the yarn after plying anyway. Take care fellow “Lisa” 💕
