Living vicariously through your farm. The ground is frozen solid here and we expect a big snow dump Tuesday. Can’t wait to see how your willow does.

Brilliant using the rebar to cut your membrane AND dig the hole for planting at the same time.

I'm visiting a local willow nursery in the US Vermont next week I'm planting a whole bed next spring for the same reason as you, wind break, wreaths and contorted willow for arrangements.

What a lovely big polytunnel you have there Sarah,, well done with all your plantings and hard work ,, I love growing flowers but never tried ranunculus so may have to give them a try,, listening with my headphones on as hubby watching the TV ,, kept having to turn the volume down when the music came on ,, then having to turn you up when you’re talking,, best wishes, Lisa

Hey Lisa, thanks for the feedback. Struggling to film well with just my phone but looking into options with new cameras/ microphones etc this very night! Hopefully it won’t be too long before the quality of the videos improves!

It’s just the volume of the music Sarah,, I love watching the content and getting a lot of useful tips so thanks for making the videos, much appreciated ,, would be equally as enjoyable with no music at all, but that’s just me,, best wishes, Lisa

Loving your videos...only came across you a week ago when looking for ideas for a new cutting garden area. Mainly I grow perennials, & have steered away from annuals as so many look ‘twee’. Your choice was great. Will pinch some of those ideas.

Doesn’t it feel so good to get that done! I planted a few more ranunculus out yesterday that I had pre-sprouted. Good luck with your willow cuttings! I’ll be anxious to see them grow! Thanks for sharing✌️❤️🌻🌸🐝🦋

It does!! In 2021 I’m trying to stay mindful of the fact that jobs are better off getting done, than putting them off and worrying about it!!

I can't wait to start seeds!!! First year starting seeds with the soil blocking method. I really want to be out in my gardens, but they are all buried under snow!

I love Willow! What kind of willow did you plant? What zone are you in. There is no way I can plant anything in the grow here in South Dakota! Grow is frozen till closer to April/May.
@bloomandgray
@bloomandgray 3 года назад
It’s Salix caprea. Not sure about the zone, possibly 8/9. We don’t use zones in the uk like in the US.

I think I’ll be buying in seed compost and mixing with perlite for drainage x

It is looking good!!! Will you cut them back that far every year or did you cut those older ones back to make them all the same size?
@bloomandgray

Yes I’ll cut them every year so that I can cut the tall ‘whips’ that grow up each spring

Hi, I'm in Scotland and wanting to grow ranunculus for a wedding on 4th August 2022. Would it be possible to delay planting them so as they would be at there best for the wedding. Thanks
@bloomandgray
@bloomandgray 3 года назад
Hey I think that august is too late to be able to get ranunculus to flower as far as I am aware. I think if you start them now they flower in May/ June. They are very much cool weather flowers.

Hey this is a link to the original listing of the willow I bought. I guess if you type in ‘willow cuttings’ or ‘live willow cuttings’ you’ll find something. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/254749769031

I just checked my ranunculus that I attempted to presprout, & a good % of them are going moldy. Do you have any idea what could have caused that? Planted too deep? Soil too wet? Keot too cold? I planted some from eden, some from my local big box store. & I noticed the ones from my big box store were more moldy, like 75% of them, & the ones I bought from eden Brothers only had about 5% go moldy...? I soaked them all for 4 hours & kept them both in my unheated garage....
@bloomandgray
@bloomandgray 3 года назад
Hey, where are they planted? In pots? Or in the ground? Could be that they are too wet. I always pot them up in a gritty compost for good drainage. My polytunnel doesn’t get too wet so I know they’ll be ok in the ground there. I’m not sure why you have a difference from the different suppliers.. interesting but frustrating!!

I work on our farm with horses, I just do it to earn some extra money over winter when I’m not selling flowers. Hopefully in a few years time I won’t have to do it anymore.
