Bloody hell lads - that icy scramble gave me vertigo just watching - reminded me of things I used to do when I was younger, never again. A great video and I have tent envy - well done and a new sub here 👍
I had white knunkles griping the side of the chair watching the ice scramble, and then you peaked over the edge. I was shouting at the TV "back away from the edge". Absolutely amazing video, My head for heights like this went about 10 years ago. Brilliant video guys thank you.
The video is even greater than I imagine , just WOW ! I didnt know you did hardcore climbing , one bad slip and you where gone . I will be looking this video another time on my big screen tv , the view needs a bigger frame to contemplate the stunning surrounding . I am getting use to your accent and understand you better each time . With quality video like this I have no doubt your channel will rise rapidly and you have such a charming personality . Thanks for sharing , Sylvain , Québec, Canada
Oh wow what can I say Sylvain? Thank you very much ☺️! I am for sure not a proper climber so, I like to use my hands every so often but I know for sure that a lot of my friends back in Germany will only smile at me when they hear that you mentioned hardcore and climbing in the same sentence with my name 😂😂😂. Thanks a lot for watching Sylvain, hope we get some more snow here in Scotland soon - ATB Stripey 👋
Thanks a lot Twin Peaks Wild Camping! Yeah Glen Coe is a really stunning place with plenty of different routes - never boring 😊. Thanks for watching! ATB Stripey
Heyup stripey chap💥💥. It's fantastic to see the "glen" at this time of year for free! It's a coin flip between glencoe or glen etive far as our favourite Scottish Glen's go,.... 180mile trip from my front door,so multi gratitudes🙏🙏👍
Thanks a lot Steve. You can also go just the normal way via the the Bidean nam Brian path and then to the Gearr Aonach Sister but I thought this one would be a bit more interesting 😄👍
Oh I really like the lost valley as well. Just such a calming and beautiful place and absolutely unique in my opinion. Have never seen such a big flat hidden valley before in my life. Cheers
Can see my red transit camper in the background 😀. Was a great weekend...whether was perfect and Glencoe looks fantastic this time of year. Great video. 👍
I have just watched this !!.Absolute respect! Immin thaw of both you. I've no idea how you do this kind of things ...blown away :) thanks for sharing....M
Absolutely gripping viewing doing that climb up 🥶 great video and the tent is an awesome bit of kit which can handle whatever the British weather can throw at it,great work 😀
Thank you very much Drew J P Coops! Hopefully the weather gets soon a bit better (colder) plenty of trips in my head which I would like to try...but to be honest it looks like rather next winter unfortunately 😏. Thanks for watching! ATB Stripey
Hi Dave, yeah winter + a big rucksack makes thinks for sure more difficult than in summer. Probably best to start slower on things when you haven't done things like that before. Rule #1: Safety first! 🍻👍
Hi stripey wat can I say fantastic awsum amazing sorry if missed any great words out well done thanks for sharing it with us all truly stunning video keep up great videos cheers
This is amazing Stripey! That is some effort getting up there with the huge bags too, but well worth it for the views 😁 love this time of year.. look forward to seeing some more adventures 😁 atb, James
Thank you very much Urbanen! The scramble is great and not really difficult (ok depending on your rucksack I guess 😂😂😂). Hope you enjoy it and thanks a lot for watching. ATB Stripey
woa was there the same time. We did Wildamping too :D with out Hillibergs hehe. AHAHAHHAAHA u see the red van and the white ford fiesta in this video ahha the FIESTA is mine with the michael jackson sticker on the back and the red one is my mates hahahah thats hilarious lol/.
@@StripeyHatGuy Oh no , But its something my mate Steven was thinking of. I am more or a Summit camper tbh. I just did Sròn a' Choire Ghaibh Saturday night just gone. Windy course but perfect morning, great night :), I like the extremes haha,
I like all wild camp's, said this summit wild camps are absolutely my favourite ones 😉 Your wild camp sounded great, not ideal start and then a great next day - everything done right 😄👍
@@StripeyHatGuy Thanks man, hey Ill message you a few pictures on instagram, think i found you there and messaged u lol last week. Sorry I was just over excited that i spotted my car hahahah not that big of a deal tbh lol jokes
Hi Robwithdog Outdoors, yeah the Tarptent Scarp 1 is a really nice tent, hope you will enjoy yours as much as I do 😊👍. Thanks for watching! ATB Stripey
Superb trip, subbed now, not sure why I had not before really, just been watching them. Love my scarp 1 and great to see it being put to good use. atb fellmandave
Thanks a lot John! Yeah a big rucksack makes easy things for sure more demanding. In wintery conditions I usually do only scrambles which I have done in summer before or which a 1-2 grades below my comfort level - safety first 😃👍. Thanks for watching! ATB Stripey
Another excellent video Stripey.Respect to you and Robert for taking all that heavy kit up the zig zag route and having to break the crampons out. That couldn't of been easy.😀👏👏 Views are always amazing when the mountains have their winter coats on.😎👍
Thanks a lot Andy! Aye it is always a lot to carry but so worth the effort, difficult to describe the beauty of waking up on a mountain with fresh snow from the night. 😍☺️👍
Hi Alex, thanks a lot! The Tarptent Scarp 1 is a really nice tent for the rucksack I think - considering the weight/packsize/price ratio. Not sure so if it would withstand a Russian winter so 😉 ATB Stripey
Stripey Hat Guy :) a big fan ..can I ask ? Why don't you and Murray from Scotland's Mountains do a joint wild camp :) that would be a highlight of all time given you are up there with the best Scottish vlogers way up there my friend. Your channel is AMAZING and in such a short time..
Oh wow, thank you so much for the nice compliment Merky! I am not really a person who likes to bother others with stuff and probably I am also not good in asking. Just enjoying the great Scottish outdoors when I get the time and we will see what happens in the future 😉.
@@StripeyHatGuy well I'm sure Murray wud love it in my opinion... He does link up with the best like yourself and he's probably a big fan of your endeavours too. Here's hoping 2022 that joint wild camp in Glencoe will happen .... Thks again for reply ... ☘️
Thanks P B66. As I mentioned before to Merky, I don't want to bother others - particular bigger channels as for me it is really just a hobby and trying to share my big and small adventures. I can only imagine how many channels are approaching Scotland's Mountains for a collaboration and probably most of them for personal channel growth. @walkwithwallace approached me for a hike and now we are going every so often for a wee hike. 😉 Thanks for watching! ATB Stripey
Thanks a lot Sam! So far the Tarptent Scarp 1 holds up really good, said this I only had now once the time to test it in wintry conditions - hopefully soon more snow is coming 🤞😃👍
Wow. What a beautiful spot with breathtaking views. Really insightful to see a winter climb and camp. Does the xlight keep you warm in below zero conditions? I use mine for the three seasons and the sea to summit extreme ether mat for winter. Although the extreme ether is very comfy it’s about the same size and weight as my scarp tent. 😂😂 Great vlog. Subscribed, Atb, Michael
Hi Michael thank you very much! No the Xlite in these temperatures isn't enough for me. I used also the z-lite underneath which should give me a r-value of around 6. ATB Stripey
Good idea to combine both for a better R value. I think my sea to summit is a bit of overkill for my needs but the comfort overshadows it’s bulkiness. Enjoying the channel, keep up the good work. Atb Michael
Another fine video SHG. I'm not an experienced walker but I have done a wee wander round SCnL, Bidean, and SCS in misty then brighter conditions, so it was nice to see the area with a winter coat on. Was just wondering, how you pass your time.(when not sleeping) when confined to the tent so early in the evening.
Thanks Johnscot1. I usually have a book on my phone and a couple of strategy games as most of the time I have no signal in the hills. Said this I am also usually quite happy to get some long sleep to catch up from the week 😂👍
Hi OldStag72, yeah quite surprised to be honest that so many people watching the videos ☺️👍 Nope the gas works fine apart of a little bit less pressure so cooking takes a bit longer. Said this I use the "Coleman extreme -27" I think it's called. If the advertising is right I should have some degrees left 😂. I use only my much heavier multifuel for temperatures below -15 degree Celsius.
Hi Mark 👋, I think that the snow baskets are really handy when you have like 20+cm snow, particular when the snow is slightly frozen. I would definitely recommend to put some basket's on the poles when you expect snow on the hills makes it just much nicer using the trekking poles as the don't get 'hooked' by every step. Thanks a lot for watching! ATB Stripey
Hi Phil👋, just with water, depending how serious you take it with leaving no trace/how short you are with water you can also drink the 'cleaning water'. ATB Stripey
Hi Mark 👋, no I don't carry a shovel for these conditions. I would carry one if I would expect like 40+cm of snow at the camp spot plus snow during the night. Thanks for watching ATB Stripey
So far so good but I haven’t had more than a couple of centimetres yet. The walls are much steeper and I would assume the snow will just slide down the walls.
@@StripeyHatGuy Thanks. I have a duomid like (Khufu Locus gear) and notice that in snowfall the space inside tend to be reduced a lot. That's why I think about the Scarp 1 or the Soulo Hilleberg. What's wrong with pack size of the Scarp1 ? BR
@@user-jq9lr9vc4f Due to the studs in the corners of the Scarp 1 (only removable with 'pain') I can't put the tent last thing into my rucksack it would need to be on the outside (2 studs per corner, around 30cm? long). Or I put the tent first in my rucksack and then the rest - which is just not practical for me. I like to pack first the inside away and then the outside. The Duomid I can just pack together and stuff it at the end into my rucksack as it is just material.
Whow real mountaineering on a uk trip video. You two chose not to rope up but having an arm and upper body used to balance the camera while you walked up on ice on rock perhaps made you feel exposed and wish for a rope? I guess its hard to tell from my viewpoint but perhaps you considered fully putting away the camera? Anyway recognition for your ambition and well done.
I guess it is all depending where you are coming from 'justmyopinion'. There is no wrong or right as long as you feel safe 👍 Thanks for watching ATB Stripey
