Hello my friends, this wittering in part explains my recent absence from the RU-vid world as I ride through Tresmeer and Egloskerry. Nothing to worry about, I've just been busy taking care of things at home. This could go on for a few more weeks yet but I'll squeeze things in as and when I can. I appreciate your patience and I'm grateful to you all for sticking around.
The other part of the wittering relates to Ernie, my Royal Enfield Classic 500 which developed an intermittent misfire, splutter, cutting out etc. and after spending many hours of fettling, which included changing the spark plug (forgot to mention that in the video), plug cap, relays, and checking all connections more than once, it would seem that it all boiled down to the HT lead touching the frame of the bike beneath the petrol tank.
There will be a video out next week which was a lot of fun to make. I rode to Rock to buy a pasty and from there went to Polzeath in search of a very special phone box. It didn't go quite how I had hoped but there's a nice surprise at the end. it'll be longer than most of my videos but I hope you'll watch and enjoy.

Odd about the HT lead..... Sometimes there's no logic with it. Tip for another time, using spray bottle set to a fine mist, spray everything with the engine running, usually finds a HT fault straight away! Good to see you're still live n kicking mate, All the Best! 👍

Pasties 😋 what's not to like? Lovely to see you again and catch you briefly on RB's live. Mum's cheesy wetsuits 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 flipping autotext 🙄 January has been problematic. My dog nearly died (she's fine now) then I got accidentally pushed off a pavement by an unruly bus mob. I've fallen off bikes and hurt myself less! All the gear, all the time indeed 😂 ( Only a green/blue/yellow knee left now) The scenery does look glorious at this time of year, when it isn't shrouded in rain. If I was on two's, I'd be out any chance I got. Things can only get better😊

Great to see you back, SB. Your problem was quite common years ago when the HT leads used to 'dry out' if they ran close to the engine after which they hairline cracked and shorted out.

I’ve been riding to work in temps down to -5 for the last two weeks. Now it’s warmed up a bit but it’s blowing a hoolie and sopping wet 😐 At least it’ll wash the bleddy salt off the roads 🤣 Ah, I’m assuming my email didn’t find its way to you 😞 Yes I got your wonderful parcel, the contents of which appear in next Sundays video. My air-cooled Beetle was playing up similarly and my love for her paled. But like you I don't give up and eventually tracked her problems down to the condenser... Oh what a difference... I started up Oddball a couple weeks ago after sitting in the garage for a few weeks (winter). It's been pretty cold here and although it did start, it idled roughly. Motorcycles simply do not do well with even modestly depleted batteries so one SHALL keep a battery tender on them during down times, especially when it's cold. After a full night's charge at 2A, it started up and idled perfectly. It appears that the ECU requires full voltage from the charging system and any abnormally high current demand going to the battery deprives it just enough to cause problems with spark and fuel control. I'm glad you found the anomaly with Ernie. Intermittent electrical issues are a nightmare to solve.

It seems anything built in the last few years benefits from a tender. I keep my bikes plugged in apart the Himalayan which is ridden almost daily. Intermittent faults are so frustrating, I really do hope I’ve cracked it this time. Many thanks my friend, take care over there 👍🏼

@Saddlebags73 Intermittent faults, my old BSA A65 had one well, many but one in particular turned out to be a loose battery terminal I spent two weeks trying to fix it, brock down in Wales, Conway Motorcycles had one idea then she started just because she wanted to 🤨 at the end of our Holiday loaded her up she started first kick and off we went for a couple of days in Southport we arrived at the Mersey Tunnel paid and then, she died I stood looking at her and I thought Battery 🤔 took the seat off 🙂 bingo the earth lead had come off and the nut and bolt was still there tighten it and off we went ran perfectly after Happy days 😉

Sorry to hear you've had issues within the family and I hope it reaches a satisfactory resolution. I've been absent myself, mostly due to very inclement weather but also due to a bit of despondency. Motivating myself to kit myself out with all the gear and tech on the odd rare weather window just seemed like too much of a chore. I finally got out for a great ride with Alex ( The Adventures of Bleary View) on New year's Eve. Our Comms wouldn't link, I could hear him but he couldn't hear me and being on a different bike led to wind buffeting issues 😟 The footage is good but the audio drowned out, I'm trying to salvage backup audio from the wireless mics, editing three sound sources isn't ideal. I'm hoping your troubles are behind you and yourself, Twinks and family have a great year ahead.

I have even considered getting a car because it’s such a pain dressing up for a short ride to and from work when it’s sub zero. Sounds like you have your work cut out with that one. Wishing you , and your family well , don't settle for just being content , the issues come back worse . Have both parties make list on paper of issues , set down , compare notes , you will find it isn't worth fighting over in the end . Relationships are built from compromise , adjustments , and communication , hopefully the rest will find its place , and everyone can settle for some normalcy , cheers.

Personally I‘m delighted by the lack of videos. It’s giving me a chance to catch up 😂😂😂 Sorry to hear that Ernie has been playing up but at least he’s trying to give you the “original Bullet experience”, bless him 🤗 Sounds like an easy fix in the end. I changed the HT lead twice, the coil once and also converted from points to electric ignition. The bar steward still cut out mid-ride towards the end and would then refuse to start until I had been towed home and it had had a night in the garage to think about what it had done to me 😂 Now that it’s gone,I think I’ve diagnosed the fault. I’m pretty sure that the new coil was defective and would lose continuity once it got hot. Usually about ten minutes from home. Then it needed hours to cool down before continuity returned and it would start. Still, I got to know several nice breakdown recovery drivers, so I’m seeing the positives ! You’ll be pleased to hear there may be some gaps yet 🤣 I know you had a lot of trouble with your 500. Thankfully, and fingers crossed 🤞🏼 Ernie has been very little trouble. The o2 sensor came loose shortly after buying it and just this little electrical annoyance. Thanks Garry. Love to both from both 🙂👋🏼

Welcome back great to hear from you. Glad u fault found successfully. Hope life improves. I had an fj1200 that would cut out then restart. Replace absolutely everything component wise. In the end I scrapped it as I felt it was dangerous. Turned out it was fault in the loom as someone bought it. I have a ht lead tester for my mowers where you can see the spark. Cheap as chips

Oh, no, Ernie misbehaving! Glad you figured it out! I had a similar issue with cutting out and I found the issue in the evap system (saturated filter). The evap system went into the bin as soon I got the bypass kit from mr H and that was the end of it!

@@Saddlebags73 Yeah, remember that the little tank is a bit tricky to remove - save that for a day when you need to take the rear wheel out. I just bypassed mine, and when I went to replace my swingarm bushings, it was easy enough to reach and remove. - drops a nice bit of obsolete waist as well 🙂

Not bad regarding reliability on Ernie as I believe apart from this issue you only had an issue with a loose o2 sensor? Electrical gremlins are the worse. At least it's not fuelling as no engine check light 👍Agreed...family is most important. Look after yourself 👍

Mine started messing around. I went through the same checked as you and it turned out to be the fuel pump was on the way out. As it costs over £300 for a new one I got rid of it and got a Supercub 125. Planing on going to some of the southwest rallies this year.

Fuel pump crossed my mind amongst a few other things. Started with the cheapest fixes and hopefully it’s cured 🤞🏼 Those cubs look fun 🙂 All the best 👍🏼

Family first. My bike goes from 4t to 2t* to 8t a lot of the time and I haven't been able to remedy it. Definitely going to look at my HT lead later *Bogs then hits a powerband like a 2t

@@volt8684 yeah could be. I have a very short commute so it could also be carbon the O2 sensor. I've just been resetting the ECU to fix it because I'm lazy 😅

Sorry things aren’t going great for you and your family at the moment. Best wishes from us here. Quite frankly this RU-vid malarkey is insignificant compared to your welfare and I’m sure I’m not alone in recognising you need to prioritise things accordingly. We won’t desert you 👍 A misfiring single eh? That’s a challenge. I’m now thinking I ought to check my ht lead as a preventative measure so thanks for the heads up. 👍 lovely video as usual young man.

I had an intermittent misfire problem with my classic 500. It would missfire about 3-5 minutes after starting up but then would clear and run fine until starting from cold again. It was sorted with a new coil which was a bit strange as I thought coils got worse as they warmed up if they were on their way out. Anyway mine purrrrrs beautifully again now

I must admit to a certain guilty pleasure in watching others misfortunes as I've been subject to a few myself (like the one I experienced last week on the new Triumph 400, see vid), but I wouldn't wish any real harm on anyone, so I hope everything sorts itself out in the end. As for videos, my health slows me down, so I'm still releasing episodes from last Summer!! Some people like TAYM seem to be able to release videos like you shell a pea pod, but most of us have constrictions which prevent that and in the end is a good thing.

I did see the 400 vid. Solid proof that things don’t always (or often) go to plan. No serious issues here, just a busy time. We’re in good health thankfully. I’m convinced TAYM is from another planet, sent to show us how inferior we are at YouTubing 🤪 Hope your health improves, best wishes 👍🏼

Well, poop. Hope thing progress in the right direction for you and your loved ones. Don't worry about anyone else other then yourself and your surroundings. I have learned this over the last 3 years as I am getting older as a man, no one is coming to help, it's all up to me to dig myself out, but if a hand is reached out, grab it, because it's only temporary. Making a video next week on this subject. Family is the ones that are around you, and it has nothing to do with DNA. 😊
