I have building harnesses for 30 yrs, before that I used Ron Francis harnesses. I like building mine because I can add relays and power distribution blocks etc and it's just cool building stuff. I used to sell my harnesses in the 90s and 2000s, at car shows and auto events, now I build them more as a hobby for mud boggers, drag racers, pulling trucks etc, I do pretty good by word of mouth. Your video was excellent, informative and should serve as a guide for DIYers, and that's one of the greatest benefits of RU-vid. Thank you for the content.
Interesting I see this comment. I’ve been looking into a Ron Francis harness for a 68 Cougar for a few years now just haven’t pulled the trigger. When you did use the Ron Francis were you satisfied with it? Chances are I will let a shop install the new harness when I get it. I would love to try myself but chances are it would take me forever 🤦🏾♂️
BEAUTIFUL ! I am a novice with my first rod and this is exactly what I need to go through rewiring my ride properly. I really appreciate you making this series of videos. Thank you so much.
About to get started on my first ever project. I’m a youtube diy mechanic so this wiring harness stage is a bit intimidating! Great video ! I’ll watching the rest and I’ll be back for more guidance and inspiration 😂 67 dreamStang here I come! Thanks for an awesome video!
Your recommendation for looking at the loom, laying it out, organizing and visualizing is the most important/critical step from my perspective. It’s not so overwhelming this way.
The aaw kits are a fee hundred more but my understanding is they come with new upgraded switches , not saying it makes up totally but has to count a good ways toward the added expense .
Thanks for the video. Can you tell me where the 12v fuse power to the headlight switch comes from? I don't see a wire in the harness for it so I'm guessing I'm going to have to use another circuit to power it?
About halfway through a c10 harness that was generic from eBay for $100. Can’t complain, could have a better installation guide but not bad at all. Color codes are MOSTLY correct. Can’t beat it
@powerband5235 I didn't have any issues. Besides a standalone harness for the engine from Bpautomotive, the chassis harness was my first wiring project. No sweat, everything pretty much laid right back in from where the original harness was. I did take out and unpin stuff I didn't need before like power windows, etc. But cannot complain, I don't see paying 800 dollars or so vs literally a hundred bucks shipped.
@powerband5235 quality wise only, painless is better, no doubt but..there were no loose connections, wire is average quality, I think it was a good purchase. I did change out the relays and fuses it came with because they were garbage.
There are a lot of good quality name brand wiring harnesses that are affordable, check them out price wise and check reviews to see what you think. Haywire, Rebel Wire, American Auto Wire are a few that come to mind
Hi bro, I have a 1983 Rangrover, and I don't know what the previous dude did but I definitely want to get a new harness, what would you suggest, Don care for new/digital or old clock works. Let me know, car starts fine and headlights work and the pressure gage but nothing els xD
I have a 1971 ford f100 that I'm trying to use a 1977 f150 wiring harness cause I can't afford a new wiring harness so it's been a long battle trying to figure it out
Unbelievable head gasket hanging on the wall what's it too just so you know I like to use a thing called a Power Probe number three I found some very hard to find shorts with that fast looking forward to your series on wiring
Thanks for watching Chuck! I love the power probe, I should probably talk about that on one of the videos. The head gasket is fake but made to look like a Flathead ford
What kind of wiring harness would you recommend for a first generation toyota tacoma 2003. Toyota doesn’t sell them anymore. Used ones all seem to be sloppily cut out.
DIYER here, Looking to rewire my 55 Chevy 3100. I am no mechanic or electrician but am capable of learning and figuring it out. Most likely going to go with Haywire. I am also new to classic vehicles and dont want to sell myself short on the number of circuits. Also not looking to run power windows or seats. Basic stuff. However, I do see myself upgrading engine components which may need some new dash equipment. So my question is will a 21 Circuit be good enough or is it to much, not enough.......? Thx in advance
Hey man love your work, it's actually inspired me to pull a 1971 Dodge polara custom with a 318 and 17k miles out of a family barn and into my garage shop. Cars sat for 30+ years as a mouse house. All wires under the hood are gone from the mice. Is there any reason you can think of why the haywire 21 kit wouldn't work for me? Im not a mechanic never done this before but am a firefighter and a carpenter so I'm sure I can figure it out at least hope ha ha
Thank you for watching! I wouldn’t see why it wouldn’t work, probably would be perfect, I’ve put that exact harness into a couple C bodies already. Give them a call and let them know I sent you, they might give you a discount!
@@WiredCustomsSpeedShop thanks man I will do that tomorrow. Keep up the strong work, you helped me wire new plug wires today, made them myself. I've never even seen a points car so this is totally new to me. Not easy to figure out the wiring when nothing is there, being foreign to cars, example I saw it has a restrictor mounted opposite of the distributor but the wires were chewed off at the voltage restrictor (regulator) so no clue how it was set up, no battery so I'm assuming it is a 12v system but restricted to 6v to the dash (going off one of your videos) but no way to confirm it. The good old fluke will be used more than ever before ha ha. I did check the omes with every wire and they were pretty consistent but is there a target reading to know the connection is solid?
Can you help me out with a scenario I can’t seem to find an answer on? I want to keep my generator on my 1959 ford ranchero. It has a 352 fe and I’m really not ready to fork out the money to get an alternator quite yet. Can a new harness still work with a generator, if so how is it wired into it?
I had emailed brothers truck (Holley) for advise on complete wiring harness for a 1971 gmc c2500 but they said they didn’t had for my truck,so for any guys reading this ,any advise for recommendations I should get ? Thank you in advance
I’m being quoted 1800 in labor to install entire harness on ls swapped Chevy nova Is that a fair price? You’re videos help me a lot brother please keep em coming 🤙🏼
Hello, yes this is a fair price, you can look up the Holley Terminator X wiring harness, that’s what I would use if it was me and they aren’t cheap! I hope all goes well. Thank you for watching my videos
@@WiredCustomsSpeedShop a/c will be interfering with stock location. And have every circuits protection only a couple feet from the battery won't hurt. But I have dumb ideas everyday, will see.
Thanks for all the great info. I'm rewiring my '68 Wagoneer with a EZ harness..so I need better information. The EZ harness instructions are not great for a beginner DIYer.
Any chance you can go in depth on the steering column ignition and turn signal switches would definitely be a great help to getting my Camaro back in the road
@@WiredCustomsSpeedShop okay, just gave a call to haywire. their prices are great and they said the E series would go great with the truck, you got any experience with that harness?
