My big problem is I want to play aggressive moves and I forget about the fundamentals. These games help to understand that developing and protecting moves are easier to calculate and they allow your opponent to make the mistake that will win you the game.

I just love how in game 1 you just calmly explained how to win a game whilst completely destroying your opponent after he moved his bishop to attack your queen.

Even though this was intended for the 600-800 elo range, I found this valuable as a reminder that fundamentals is often enough to win. Just exploit your opponents' inaccuracies.

Perhaps your best instructional video to date Alex. Since most of us are "lower rated players" we can actually learn and relearn proper moves playng the CK. I'm 1160 rapid which by the way is in the 85 percentile, so more videos like this are much appreciated. Next up-700-900 blitz rating. Can't wait!

I like these time controls because I want to hear you explain all the moves. A lot of youtube chess channels speak at a pace that they can understand. A lot of it goes over my head, so this slower format is great for me.

Hi Alex. I have been playing the Caro for a few months and I really enjoy my games versus e4 now. Sometimes I have difficulty in the advanced variation developing the kingside pieces before casting, especially when I allow white to play a Bg4 pin. Maybe sometimes my fault with development choices but sometimes opponent makes it difficult too. Would be nice to see some examples of overcoming any difficulties there. Also, in first game you mentioned about setting up pawn breaks. Would be good to see examples of you doing that and explaining ideas. Great content Alex, thank you 👍

Hi Alex, been watching your videos for a while and I think you explain the moves really well and your thought process behind them. I do think you can use the arrows more to draw which pieces are under attack. Often you do it but you can also go a long time talking without drawing out your thoughts.

wow only on the second game but your insteuction is so tailored to me I'm 1200 rapid and struggling in Blitz with Black cause I need a simple repertoire and fresh besides the Owen's defense and Hippo..love that you are doing this in the 5 min format, although I play it without an increment and have peaked at 900 blitz..im not in a panic cause realize I just need some fine tuning

I’m a 1500 trying to teach friends who are 200-400 rating. What I find is that because of Levy Rozman, CaroKann is just too popular now. For that reason I think French is way better.

I've watched nearly 40 of your videos on vienna and cara kann.........since i started watching them i went down to 450 and float between that and 530 or so.......nothing seems to help understand........i get it when im watching...but as soon as i think i get it.....i press play and just lose 10 in a row like right now because people on my level are not playing what they play against you.

5:28 some 600 do sadrifice pawns and all the stuff, so I guess you can play one in 5 games more agressive for those., even if I highly like that safe moves consistency, you have 4 games or so in a video, a last one can be more rriscy I guess, or one of them can be such if there was a chance, if not for those riscy players then maybe for future potencial growth, so ppl would see it can be played differently and more edgy

Sometimes blits is indeed to fast to follow (under 600 rated: started playing chess a week ago) but I just pause the video rewatch, analyse and try to understand. I do think blitz content is better also for a beginner as if you talk even more about a position in rapid it would probably just be too much information for me right now. now it is simple. also the video gets even longer as you wait for your opponent

2:45 "Never go wrong...rook on open file." I can still remember my jaw dropping when SF first bitchslapped me for doing just that. Surely just a glitch...no? After being bitchslapped several more times, as the game so loudly demands, best play necessitates forever being hyper vigilant on nearly all moves as there are many exceptions to most rules (a lot of which are tied to issues of timing when it comes to putting a rook on an open file). Now in blitz, sure. It's almost always a safe bet given good and excellent moves will mostly predominate. In rapid, it's mostly ok for a lot of the same reasons. But classical? Do enough analysis of games and something you thought to be a complete no-brainer move will routinely not be best (like as high as 10 percent of such moves won't pass mustard per SF.) Only moves 1 and 2 are (mostly) 'phone it in' moves. After that, either crank and keeped cranked the vigilance dial (for peer play) or consider taking on another pursuit. It really is what the game demands. In terms of playing someone who is 1000pts or more lower than you...well, letting your hair down a bit shouldn't backfire. Until it does...on certain rare occasions.
