Hello Kiara Mary! Thanks for your comment! There are many different sizes of brush. It depends on what you are painting. For some subjects like wisteria, a small, soft Chinese brush is very good. For lotus, you may need a much bigger brush. You can find more information about brushes in my painting blog at joyfulbrush.com

Simply beautiful. Did you use rice paper? Can I use watercolor paper. I think rice paper takes some practice. Any suggestions? Thank you

I love Chinese brush paintings but would it not be better with a background wash instead of just white paper.

+B Pious There is no 'better' or 'worse', just a matter of preference. I am doing quick paintings to show the dance of the brush. Generally these paintings do not have background washes, in order to show off the beauty of the strokes.

I Noticed that one of your brushes seems stiff. The one that makes the finer lines and you hold it like a pencil. Does it have glue on it? J

Thanks for your comment, Judith. Chinese brushes are made of different hair, some stiff and springy (like weasel or horse hair) and some soft (like sheep or goat). For fine lines, a springy brush is best. The brush called the "Happy Dot" is particularly good for stamens and veins. It does not have glue on it but it comes to a very good point. I hold the brush differently depending on what stroke I am making, how big the stroke is, whether I am using the brush perpendicularly or horizontally to the paper, etc. I hope this helps explain what you are seeing.
