One thing i learned when i had a floyd is when you have to change the strings put a sock or somethimg under the tremelo to keep it level while you put on a new set of strings and stretch and tune the guitar back....much easier that way.
After you get your trem flush with the body and the tuning right measure from the top of the guitars cavity to the back of the claw that is your baseline write it down and adjust as needed for different tuning. As for the truss rod I keep between a playing card to credit card height above the frets
Funny thing about my journey as a guitar player and the Floyd trem system: When i got my first electric guitar at 12, it had a fender style trem as it was a very cool strat copy. Thing is, this thing *sucked* to tune and keep in tune. Wonderful guitar, worked best with the whammy detached from the trem. I was also told by almost *every* youtube gear video that floyd systems were even worse to keep in tune so i naturally stayed away from them. Fast forward a bunch of years and now I'm 25 with a Jackson King V pro and a Soloist...both with Floyd Rose trems that never go out of tune despite how much abuse i put them through. Either I've got two unicorns or people don't know how to set up Floyd's 😅😅
FR's can remain very stable if you lubricate every point the string touches the guitar (nut, bridge, saddles, tuning machines, string tree). Graphite works but you can also get stuff specifically for lubrication.
My dad made/been making a guitar, with a floyd rose because i guess he just heard about if and was like “cool”. Wishes he hadnt tried to build his first guitar with one.😂
Gawd...are you people just plain ignorant? The Floyd stays in tune 10x better than any other system... don't apply for the job if you don't have the skills....I play Floyd all the time, and yes I have a guitar tech that sets it up...one and done! I wrench the bar flat for motor FX and pull until I get a full octave...
15 minutes. Should take you no more than 15 minutes to tune and re-float your Floyd . And yes, even the dreaded"Specials" work wonderfully and hold excellent tune as long as you know how to use the tools you have.
