WK2 - Air Suspension Fix? (2020)

Our WK2 Quadra Lift Air Suspension went out while we were at Big Bend National Park. We were still able to do a few trails but definitely missed the ground clearance.
In This Video We take the Jeep Grand Cherokee (WK2) in for repairs in the Carlsbad New Mexico Area. We bought the Mopar Extended Warranty and are hoping the repair costs are covered.
Watch the video to find out what was wrong with our beloved WK2 and how much the repairs to the air suspension cost.

If you get this error message before you take it in check your fuses. I received same error message on my 2018 trail hawk. Check my fuse box on a whim and 40amp fuse was blown $5.54 later she worked fine. This may not always be it but why not check first. The fuse that was blown for me was F5. It’s a square green one. Might also read F05 on some manuals. Good luck

Fun fact about quadra-lift on these. You can leak all the nitrogen out and it the compressor assembly with compensate with air. So what likely happened to you is some sort of module issue and they reset and you're on your way. My money would be on if you disconnected/reconnected the battery you would have never taken it into them. Maybe they refilled it with nitrogen but the fact that they weren't telling the truth from the get-go there is a good chance they were lying about that too. Also worth noting if it really did leak out these vehicles will sit lower than entry/exit. So if you didn't see that then it wasn't the integrity of the "closed" system. Hopefully that helps with any concerns about "why did the nitrogen leak out but they can't find any leaks?" (its because it didn't)
@ProdigalOverland
@ProdigalOverland 4 года назад
I actually saw recently that it doesn’t actually need the nitrogen in the system. And it wasn’t sagging either. Do you think the cold weather cold affect it?
@dustsmoke
@dustsmoke 4 года назад
@@ProdigalOverland not really, it's probably something just got grounded out and caused a little crazy on the module. Usually just reset everything and you're back on your way. Basically what happens even if the vehicle is off and air is leaking so it starts sagging. It'll level itself back out. So the fact that it was able to maintain without the pump constantly on says it was just a glitch to me. Like I said, probably some ground/moisture somewhere.
@myyoutubename152
@myyoutubename152 3 года назад
@@dustsmoke I know this a 1 yr. old comment, but likely it was partly a product of the harsh vibrations. Those "modules" have circuit boards with little components soldered on, that solder is brittle so vibrations can cause bad connections.

I really appreciate that you shared your Air Suspension issue with us, because I'm having the same issue here with 2012 JGC Overland Summit, especially when I try to level it up to "Off Rd 2" and then the message comes up. I just came back from the garage that did a replacement for the rear air suspension. Tomorrow I'll go back to make sure that wither the Air Suspensions fully recharged or not. I hope you enjoyed with the "Off Road Trails" that you've made in Las Cruces New Mexico.

If it sags again, or has no fill response, check the hose connection on the top of the front shock column. It’s in the engine compartment. It is a 90 degree elbow and it will have a very slow leak. The seal will go out after bouncing on rocks. It’s a relatively cheap and easy fix, if you don’t buy Mopar line kit. You can get just the elbow. Having just air in the system wasn’t the issue. Gases leak no matter what type.

Shawn Enser I’m a truck driver, so I keep a set of various size o rings in the truck with me. You can buy a selection box on Amazon or most auto parts shops. It’s a little fiddly, but can be done with a hook screwdriver and a set of tweezers. The original o ring is a double thickness o ring, but you can replace it with two of the same diameter. I’ve had zero issues since replacing them.

My 2013 Grand Cherokee Overland has been in 3 times for Quadlift II issues all in all they just replace parts until they get it fixed and charge you for all of them. The third time the dealership kept the vehicle for 12 days over, $5,000.00 spent so far and that was just the front. When the rear goes I will be switching to The Rocky Road Quadralift replacement lift kit. Had I known then what I know now I would have done the switch before spending a fortune on a system that the dealership just laughs and takes your money for a problem they don't seem to know how to fix.

You really need to keep that transfer case switch area CLEAN. If crap gets in there, buttons stick and it can make the system throw errors, even leave you stranded. Do not let food, dirt, liquids get in that switch area. clean with a baby wipe often, nothing harsh. vacuum out too as much as you can.

Thank you so much for this point. Since I bought the used WK2 a few months ago, the ride height lowering button has been tacky. Snaps when depressed and slow to raised back out. This could possibly be what’s going on with my Jeep. Thank you for pointing it out.

I’ve been wanting a 2017 Overland as my next car and the Quadra Lift is specifically the reason why I am concerned... I have had friends ALL have issues with air suspension/hydraulically actuated systems... Vw Touareg, Acura MDX, Lincoln Navigator, heck even the Toyota 4Runner. They ALL seem to go bad after the 5-6 year mark no matter the number of km put on the car...

runNride I haven’t had issues since this time in big bend. However some folks have and a fix for it without when In isn’t under warranty can easily be thousands. Where as you could ad a lift to it if you wanted. That would be less likely to fail. There are pros and cons of each.

We were riding heavy and still would get some sway on windy days even with the anti sway bars. Out 5.7 pulls it fine.

I didnt have any issues with my quadra lift BUT the ride in OR2 was terrible. The suspension tops out on every bump and is so stiff you wouldn't know it moved! The other issue is a independent suspension doesn't flex much, the stiff suspension makes it flex even less. I have now swapped to an OME coil kit from rock road outfitters. This is way better! If you tow ask for the stiffer rear coils. The air suspension is cool but off road it's useless.
