Damn , this is the clone of the stingray 500 , which cost over 700 euros :) you need to see what the creator of the stingray can do with it :D it's amazing and also amazing :D

Very good! Curtis Youngblood look out! This is a fusion from a collective heli to a quad. Looks like a blast once learned. A great price for real 3D, and a good way to hone one's skills.

Banggood posted the first video of this on Nov. 10th, 2014, then HobbyKing introduced theirs on Dec. 24th, 2014. But they're both actually clones of Curtis Youngblood's Stingray 500 (which Andy mentioned), and his first video on that was Dec 17, 2012. :)

Tim Adams Actually, Hobbyking had been hinting at it for quite a while before they released it. Also, neither is a clone of the cyb stingray. From a distance they look similar but up close they're very different. It's like saying the zmr250 is a clone of the blackout. Similar, but very different.

It looks like a Car and I must admit that was funny watching that. When you took it up to do the first flip roll I honestly thought it was going to come crashing to the ground lol. Overall I think it's on the heavy side and does not really fly that well at all but I did enjoy the test flight Andy and no doubt this is one for the faint hearted :)))))))))))

Cant wait for the hi power bigger carbon blade low weight version to evolve from this! imagine the first brushless quad you flew and then what you fly NOW! This represents the first of the creed.I'm thinking a quad of this colective pitch type but 250mm between the motors and four blade rotor heads running at 10,000 rpm at the blades and it will Hoot along :-)

Wow. Kudos to you for giving that bizarre craft a go. That 1st roll must have scared the heck out of you. When going inverted, I assume the FC reverses the prop pitch to keep it level so that the throttle function operates the same? Its SO different, but perhaps a perfect transition model for those flying CP Helis and want to have a go at a quadcopter. I would be worried about that central shaft, and the belts driving the blades. As you said, those could be potentially a hazard. I'm sure I would need a change of underwear if I were to try to fly that thing .. better you showing it off! Again, Kudos for such a nice demo! Cheers!

No you have to do everything manually, the flight controller doesn't switch anything. When inverted the throttle basically operates upside down and half of your controls are reversed.

The problem with this, and other WLToys CP helicopters is that the transmitter is not user configurable so everything is set up as whoever designed it set it up and cant' be changed. I have a V977 helicopter...flies absolutely great in 6 axis mode, but it is so touchy in 3G / 3D modes that you would have to be really good to fly it without smashing it into the ground. On their XKDetect CP Helicopters (K100, K110, K120) you have a "real" transmitter that you can go into and set up to fly to your taste and flying skills. It's a shame they didn't include that radio setup with this quad...might have been more fun. However, price is great right now...might be worth that as a conversation piece.

Hi Andy! Can you say something about how the propholders should stand to each other? Must they be mirror like symmetric or parallel? If I need to change the position have I to losen the holder screws and turn it in the right position or should I losen the servo screws and fix all new? My first efforts to start went wrong. It didn't manage to hover but the machine left his back and make a roll forward. What is wrong? May be the 3D button is activated? They write "down" in the manual for throttle hold but it is up. Is the left switch the same? Up 3D out? I think not.

Your yaw problem is being caused my one of your servos not changing the collective the exact amount on its rotor in the negative direction. Check each rotors pitch about the negative hover point, about -3 or -4 degrees I would guess, they should all be exact.

I cannot believe they are trusting this flyer to THAT transmitter, unless the innards have come a heck of a long way since my V666, but hey it is nice for what it is, just not what I was imagining for a flyer such as this. Throw your Devo or Teranis at this thing man THAT will be the difference I'm so certain! Great flight man!

Most ESCs and motors can't handle a 5s pack, you'll have to get ESCs and motors rated for 5s or 6s

With all of the motors always spinning at the same speed, how is it able to yaw? I'm really confused by the physics of this thing. For a heli it can use the tail rotor, for a normal quad it can change the motors speeds, but how does this thing do it?

The props can have zero pitch - being flat, so they won't produce lift or anything. So as on normal quad two cross-opposite props are flattened out, their effect decreases and it yaws.

if the pitch zeroes out, that corner of the quad will dip since it is not producing lift. However, there will be no change in angular momentum. A normal quad will spin down 2 of the motors and spin up the others in order to create a difference in angular momentum, resulting in yaw. Is the yaw simulated by actually rolling the quad just in roll then pitch, then roll then pitch, but doing it rapidly? I'm still missing something.

Not only momentum is yawing the quad, most yaw power actually comes from prop contact with the air. Imagine a motor with propeller thrown into honey pot or similar viscous fluid. The motor will spin as prop will get caught in the honey. So the same happens with the quad, two motors are slowing down to make less contact with the air. And with collective pitch it's the same, flat prop gives similar effect as slower speed.

haha very nice quadheli thingy looks a bit scary the noise 2 clever bit of kit mind it flys so well buy the looks of it does it have angle mode type flight self levelling plus acro or thrust vectoring as I have watched some RC pilots on the tubes they do some crazy shit with helicopters amazing to watch :)

I couldn't see me actually liking this , but obviously you enjoy flying 3D and a pretty dab hand at it. I think the name is wrong too , it should be called the "Nerve wrecker" lol . Yeah, I was going to point that out. The main rotor stays at a constant speed then uses the pitch control to adjust lift, exactly like this.

Wasn't easy to see what the canopy was doing from the video, but the chassis looks pretty stable. However I suspect it'll need some damping. I can imagine that drive chain produces quite a bit of vibration. Does look like fun to fly though :-)

Maybe with full containment prop guards. Looked like 4 flying tablesaws looking for trouble. Big enough to be really dangerous, and small enough to want to keep in close for 3d. Dumb and dumber.

the concept looks interesting but it brings nothing new or better to the table. It looks really fragile with all intrinsic parts made of plastic. With a $180 pricetag it seems a bit too steep. The quality of the plastic on the transmitter looks extremely cheap.

This thing is a nightmare to fly. Problem being is the dumb ass engineering. It does fly, loads of power, but when you even slightly come down on the throttle, it wants to fall like a rock. When i first started you ramp the throttle up just enough to get the blades rotating and that helped heeps when you cut the throttle.

Man you enjoyed that? These are something i have been looking at on and off from a while now.Are you impressed with the build quality ???I know the original version is top notch but is very expensive for something you could potentially destroy it in one crash...
