Wolf Jaw tongs! Greatest tongs for a beginner Blacksmith! Remake! 

Actually just a RU-vid, a bit of space and a lot of willingness/desire. I started to carve spoons a couple years ago. Bought only a cheap Mora hook knife and a folding saw at the supermarket. Made my own straight knives out of old files. Made one hook knife with a little anvil nailed to a block of wood, using an old chisel. Used my fireplace for central heating as a forge;) Now i'm making my own propane forge and all i had to buy was some pipes for a burner so far. And a bit of refractory powder i will mix with a sand and plaster. Really, it takes much more willingness and effort than money:) And some inspirations from guys like Daniel, Trobjorn, Alex Steel and a lot of other wonderful blacksmiths here. Bertram's channel can be an amazing inspiration. He made a viking style movable "forge" that you can fit in a small bag. If you really want, you can start forging with a bit of charcoal, some mud and stones, some tongs to grab a hot metal (i used old, dull cutters) and any hammer :D

I'm still upright, thanks for the asking, but am getting over a quite serious illness at the start of the year. Just at the point where I've gotten back into the shop for a day or two. Long boring story ;)

Rivet diameter should be about the same as the hinge plate thick Ness. I am for 10mm hinge plates so the diameter of the starting stock is about 10mm.

Thanks dan its just hard to see proper demotions when not in person do you build the tongs for the pin diameter or finger out the pin demotions when the tongs are in the final stages of construction

The reins are Centered and have no index. You can uses the left or right hand. I make all my Tongs like this. That's what I was doing with the bending forks in the vise. Good question hope that helps.

Centring reins isn't common on most hand forged Tongs as it's a little time consuming. But they sit ace in the hand.

@@danielmoss2089 i asked because the only time it was explained was black bear forge, if the top jaw was also the left side of the boss they want to fall to the left, or INTO the left hand, for a 'righty' with the hammer...and so forth, have you heard of anything like this?

I was always tought it was which way you do the second Set down. I turn into my body witch makes a set of Tongs for a left hand. I've seen John's video on this subject and can't disagree. But leaving the Tongs hand can cause you to Forge out of square. Hence why I center them also any one can uses them. I also uses a power hammer daily and this means I hold Tongs in my hammer hand and top tools in my left. Hand Tongs just don't work for me.
