Wolfgang Schmidt was one of the best Discus thrower in History. His personal best throw was 71.16 metres, achieved in August 1978 in Berlin. He competed for East Germany at the 1976 Summer Olympics and won the silver medal. A former world record holder, he also won several medals at the European Athletics Championships. In the autumn of 1982, Schmidt was condemned to one and a half years prison for an escape to West Germany at the height of his career... legend was born!

@ 2:39. The west picks up the east and bear hugs it and goes away happy and “ victorious”. The east is big and beautiful the west is a massive pillar of strength! Celebrating human achievement.
