It's a bittersweet story for me, as someone of Irish (and British) decent. As although this story has a lovely ending, ultimately wolves have been cleared from both islands which has led to very unhealthy ecosystems. This is doubly sad as Ireland used to have such a healthy abundance of the animals that they're embedded deeply into the culture. "Macintire" is a common surname meaning son of the land (wolf) and one of the common nicknames for Ireland in th 1700s was "wolf land". When the last wolf died, we lost a piece of ourselves and our greatest connection to our natural heritage.
They are magnificently beautiful animals. I find it so ironic that we love dogs so much and yet, wolves are their closest cousins. Hell, dogs by scientific definition ARE wolves (domesticated versions). Their family unit, their size, their intelligence... They are an animal that needs to protect it at all costs. They are also a highly vital part of the ecosystem.
dang thats sad reminds me of the red wolf (for people who don't know red wolves are a very very indangerd speices of wolves) and from a magazein i heard there where only 7 of them left. so this is kinda like that... i think.
WolfWalker instantly became one of my all time favorite animated films of all time, it's an absolutely beautifully animated masterpiece! the cast and crew of Cartoon Saloon did an incredible job bringing it to life. and i gotta say Robyn is the one of the characters that fascinated me the most because she felt like she knew where she belonged the first time she became a wolf and she embraced it.
Wolfwalkers is by far one of the greatest movies ever created. Cartoon Saloon did everything perfectly. The story, characters, animation, score. Everything was done dead on point. Also the Lord Protector was a real person. The 17th century politician Oliver Cromwell.
I absolutely love this movie I also feel a sense of relatability to it as well. My parents have always made me feel like I was in a cage. They love me but they never let me experience the freedom of life. They’re always overprotective, overbearing, and never listen. Every time I watch this movie I cry at the part where Robin tells her farther she’s already in a cage. I wish I could say the same to my family without the fear of what might happen if I do. Also her already being in a cage is a metaphor for the city. It’s walls and house resembling bars when viewed from the mountain side with the giant tree. A lot of the story is told with the art.
I like both, but we definitely need more of this. The way I see it, werewolves are people like anyone else. There's good ones and bad ones; and much like real wolves, their wild and unpredictable nature makes them feared by default.
I love dog men and Rugaru stories most dog men do not hurt people. There was on storie were a man was bringing food to a army exsersize and when he was driving back His sappier had to go to take a piss the man saw a dog man sneaking up behind him so he yells and they book it. The dog man attacks the car with its mate and they take what is left of the food in back of the humvey
@@thepastrywolf1632 Not really. Wolfwalkers are basically a combination of medieval Christian werewolves (who exited their bodies in astral wolf-form when they slept) and modern movie werewolves (who can turn other people into werewolves by biting them).
Fun fact this wolfwalker thing is based on one of the oldest Werewolf legends. Where a bunch of people claimed they astral project into wolves durning their sleep to hunt demons.
Wolfwalker is a amazing piece in every way and Sean bean having a decent part. But if you loved this, you may really like their previous work “the book of kells” with spirits, Vikings and more wolves
In celtic myths/legends, animals can have magical powers or properties, so the wolves turning into rocks is a way to hide themselves. In one story I know of, a bird turns itself into a flower, and in one other story turns into a leaf.
I know what u mean man. I saw this right when it came out, and spent the rest of the year processing how blessed I was to have experienced such a masterpiece.
Glad u got around to this 1. I knew about it from my brother months before it came out, and he scored one of the first DVDs to hit the black market; so we're probably among the first to see this masterpiece in all it's glory. I personally had never been so deeply moved by a creature feature, and I'm honestly hard-pressed to think of ANY movie that made me as emotional as Wolfwalkers. I've rewatched it several times, and it STILL makes my eyes water (not an easy feat). It's so easy to forget you're watching an animated movie with voice actors. Everything from the animation to the sound editing hits perfect, and the performances felt so REAL. It definitely holds up to rewatches as well, because there's a lot of details you miss the first few times. I never saw the teeth marks on the bars of the crate in that 1 scene btw, so thanks for that.
I've watched WolfWalkers, and it's what we need more of, unique stories painting wolves and werewolves in a bright light, but since big companies like Disney believe it wouldn't be a good investment, we don't see it often in huge big stream media, also amazing video and funfact; it took them 20 *YEARS* to animate this masterpiece! and they did it using the traditional papers 2-D as you can see by the bases sometimes popping through :D another element as to why it's awesome!
By the power of content I have been summoned on another Alteori adventure! Also, your review of this makes me want to recommend you reviewing Princess Mononoke
You should definitely check out Song of the Sea. Same studio. The film killed me emotionally. Though it probably hit me so hard because of what was going on in my life at the time.
I've watched Wolfwalkers dozens of times by now, but still, every single time Moll (Mebh's mother) initially gets shocked and that initial panic makes me tear up and get really upset each time, despite knowing she'll be okay. Just goes to show how strong the writing, acting and animation was to keep that emotion raw...
Beautiful isn't it? Bought the Blu-ray set once it got out. A once of a lifetime chance to get animation from a small studio. Something that might in a few years be impossible to find. You have to love how this is NOT DISNEY. Going back to old stories and making it so nice.
@@greenskull3384 Nah. It's that I prefer it when they have fantasy settings instead of realistic ones. They make a wonderful way of expressing fantasy and imagination. It's like how I thought Ponyo was Hayao Miyazaki's last great film. I wasn't a big fan of The Wind Rises.
Wolfwalkers is a piece of art!! the animation is amazing, the character dessing is amazing, the music, the story... and... then Pixar got the oscar, don't get me wrong, Souls is also an awesome movie... but, I still feel something was not right with that decission...
a suprise to be sure to see this on your channel. motly because it was so late that you added this on your channel. this movie was a treat for me. If i was a werewolf, i would be very happy to see something showing the positive side of lycanthropy.

Hello Alteori. WOLFWALKERS, Ooooooh, I might give this movie a go, I love wolves. When I saw the graphics/animations I thought this is fan-made but no, it's official movie. They should make more movies about wolves. Anyway, another great video, Alteori, I like it, see you in the next one.
I only now just watch this movie and oh my gosh there is too much to say in this movie at all my emotions racing and my blood boiling. This has become one of my favorite movies of all time. Not only does it have animals and magic in it which is my favorite combination it is just an amazing story in general.
OMG YOU KNOW ABOUT A DOGS LIFE FOR PS 2!!! I LOVE THAT GAME! Also, I’m glad you said that because the scene where she turns into a wolf reminds me of the game too. It’s cool that I’m not the only one who thinks that.
You should check out the other movies made in this collection, they're all really good. If I remember right there are 2 other movies in the same style that focus on Irish folk lore.
I've seen that movie thanks to you recommending that music clip from it. I'm surprised you watched it after so long. I really like it's visuals and sound/music as well as voice actors.
I watched this great film about 6 times now and I love it man. Cartoon Saloon who made the film are just amazing. Song of the Sea they maded just made me cry, but I think that Wolfwalkers is probably my favourite of Cartoon Saloon films. Have not seen all of there films though.
Omg finally someone else that has seen this amazing movie!!!! I love Wolfwalkers!! Its one of my favourite movies!! Also what is that thumbnail?? I love it 😂😂
Wow, you comparing this movie part to Spirit... I made tributes with this movie, and 2 of Spirit's songs I've actually used as a tribute for this movie... How Ironic. Glad you finally saw it.
Oh yeah the British conquered Ireland via Plantations which were colonies ruled by the British (Mainly the Tudor throne) Wolves where already an endangered species in Ireland so the British would later wipe them out and it's nice to see such an underrated movie get some attention from a large content creator such as yourself. The problems from the Plantations would cause countless historical issues (Such as the great famine (1845-1847) or the 1916 rising)
It's such a good movie. It makes me want to learn more about Wolfwalkers. Like do they have the same weaknesses as werewolves or are they just different?
Looks like the same Irish animation group that made The Secret of Kells.....you would like the forest girl with the magic cat, Pangur Ban....the cat's name comes from from one of the oldest poems recorded by monks in Ireland. Aisling's Song You must go where I cannot Pangur Bán, Pangur Bán Nil sa saol seo ach ceo Is ni bheimid beo Ach seal beag gearr Pangur Bán, Pangur Bán Nil sa saol seo ach ceo Is ni bheimid beo Ach seal beag gearr You must go where I cannot Pangur Bán, Pangur Bán Nil sa saol seo ach ceo Is ni bheimid beo Ach seal beag gearr Pangur Bán, Pangur Bán Nil sa saol seo ach ceo Is ni bheimid beo Ach seal beag gearr
Cant wait for your review on the 3rd season of the 9 realms sorry to put u through the pain of watching it again but as always Alex just keeps being a good character
They may not have had free speech back then, but back then they also wouldn't disallow a jest or criticization unless they had something to hide. And then once they enforce not letting people speak their mind this would confirm their guilt, which they would feel an impulse to cover by enforcing it again, same as one would try to cover 1 lie with another lie.
16:15 right there you said it it's the show don't tell they've shown plenty for you to make her words make sense instead of just venting and especially about things that actually haven't happened to those people and yes I'm referring to feminist and their Works in Media like She-Hulk the most recent this is how they should have done it even if it's not the worst situation A person can be through especially a woman it's still very limiting and makes you feel like you're not yourself that you can't be an individual is the best way I can put it
20:26 A little mistake there. I think you mean "before Robin is killed by the lord protector," Goodfellowe is her father. Well, it's his last name but you know what I mean. ;)
