I suspect there was a behind the scenes agenda at play. Having a religious character is fine but this with all it's very clear musical cues just comes off as preachey on a show that seemed to recognize evolution and revolved around an atheist that created a superhero team.
@@AGNOSTIC_incomprehensibleXIVIt's also a world where cosmic entities that can warp reality, a world magic exists and gods like Thor exist and unlike MCU Thor where they blur the line, comics Thor is a god. So don't think you're slick with the commentary the Marvel universe has a ton of shit going on in it, not even talking about the comics just these 90's marvel shows. This is an episode about the characters Gambit clearly isn't a believer and the show makes no efforts to force him to be one or demonize him when Rougue gets angry at him it's a natural reaction because she really doesn't want to hear something like that at that moment but can't deny she has similar thoughts in private. That's why she rests in the inbetween. Wolverine is a believer who questions his faith, that's why he's constantly trying to push Night Crawler down but instead finds greater strength in his faith. It's a good episode that explores characters in a different light using religion as a medium.

The odds of Gambit being a secular person are low. Just because he doesn't believe in a nanny God doesn't mean he's a blatant nonbeliever. I can't find any real point to the rest of your comment so I still stand by mine. A character who happens to be religious is fine but this was clearly a bunch of out of place, preachy propaganda that even used some of the same manipulative musical techniques that they use at some churches. I'm glad they didn't make this kind of thing a regular habit.
I loved this episode, always been my favourite X-Men show, Jesus loves all of us, no matter how messed up we are. To all the wolverines out there, the rough cuts and wildcards, The Lord Loves You. Always
@@CleverGirlAAHExactly. I liked Wolverine getting a nice moment of peace and positive thought. I've been an atheist since my teens and I thought this episode was fantastic for it's nuanced take on how faith can both soothe or corrupt a person. The villagers use their beliefs to fuel their blind hatred but it's this same faith that lets Nightcrawler and later Wolverine find solace in their difficult lives.
Yes. He’s devote and knows there is a God who loves us. And he warmly challenges Logan to see things differently. He’s not oblivious to the evil of the world but chooses to ride above it. GREAT writing.
The verse he was reading was Isaiah 12:1 English Standard Version You will say in that day: “I will give thanks to you, O LORD, for though you were angry with me, your anger turned away, that you might comfort me.
"I will give thanks to you Oh Lord, for though you were angry with me, your anger turned away and you comforted me. I will have trust and will not be afraid." Isaiah 12:1 One of my favorite quotes from the bible and a perfect verse for Wolverine. Looking at it from Wolverine perspective, he probably have spent his life thinking that God was mad at him and because of that he always seemed to be going through trouble, pain, and tragedy. Then eventually realized that throughout all of that, God has been there for him anyway and comforting him. He's still alive, surrounded by friends he can trust, and is surrounded by love. And lastly for the not being afraid part, Wolverine felt like he's afraid to put his trust in God and let him back in because he's afraid that he's just going to find trouble again. And that's not just Wolverine that's anybody who are atheists and non believers. But I don't judge them because I know it's not their fault and I believe when the time is right, they'll be back in the right mind frame because it's all about patience. Wolverine is one my favorite character because I too know what it's like to be damaged and feel like the whole world is after me some kinda way because of who I am, yet I'm still strong like him and i still have a good heart no matter what. Also I love Nightcrawler due to being a man of God and is the healer in the group and is all about spreading the love. I love everything about this episode and show period. I really wish they put episodes like this in cartoons again because it's right for the kids 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏💙💚
All of this is so insightful, this is one of my favorite episodes! And Nightcrawler’s one of my favorite characters along with Wolverine, Gambit, Rogue and Beast! It was sweet that Rogue saw Wolverine praying and although it doesn’t show it in this short clip, she cried tears of joy that she saw him go back to God. In fact, as a kid: I always saw Rogue as a strong Christian woman
You're spot on. I remember seeing this scene as a kid back in the 90's. Even then it was profound to me. But it's even more profound now because I'm comparing it to today's shows and content. They would never put a scene like this in a show today. They would do it if the character was already a Christian character, but not a non Christain character turning to Christianity. Wolverine always had atheistic or agnostic type qualities, but to see him turn to God here, is one of the most beautiful moments in an animation ever. Because Logan has always been one of my all time favorites.

I even bet the Fox Network was skeptical for having this placed in the X Men episode. Thankfully the writers and animators of the show charged on

If you committed your life to obeying and following Jesus and being filled by his Holy Spirit, you are no longer a sinner who is a slave to sin. You become a saint because Jesus has now set you free to follow after him and become more like him. I do not call myself a sinner anymore, though I am capable of sinning and making mistakes, the whole point is to continue being transformed and living in repentance.
Remember this Scriptures during tough times 🙏🏻✝️🕊️❣️: "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;" Philippians 4:6 NKJV "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope" Jeremiah 29:11 NKJV "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us" Romans 5:8 NKJV "Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!" Psalms 27:14 NKJV "And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven" James 5:15 NKJV "Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong" II Corinthians 12:10 NKJV "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another" Galatians 5:22-26 NKJV "For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us" Romans 8:18 NKJV "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble" Matthew 6:34 NKJV "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 NKJV
I wish more religious stuff was shown in shows like this. The faiths can be Abrahamic, Dharmic, Oriental, Pagan, Gnostic ect. As different as they all are, they still all ultimately have the same message, which is peace. You don't see religious stuff in kid's shows like this anymore and they really should bring them back.
Yea, but then the 1% of bozos out there would lose their minds and try to boycott such things. I'm not a bible beater or anything, but I do believe that the teachings of the bible are a good thing, and so many people misconstrue or misunderstand those teachings. I think it's good to show others that it's okay to have such religious beliefs if people choose to.

It can't. Not with how they're going, not with the people who hate God and all He represents in charge and not with Marvel degrading the Lord made flesh as 'the Galilean mutant' or some such rubbish. Marvel and the MCU as withered husks of their former selves, something like this can never happen in it.
Such a shame Christianity, or using the term “God” and “Christ” is barely mentioned in the modern era of cartoons/animation. Honestly, in my book, just using the terms either feels real with the dialogue or flows well with the certain expressions like Spiderman saying “Amen” in a positive gesture or Cortez from El Dorado using both “God” and “Christ” to add the chilling factor to his villainy when he mentions about sending Miguel and Tulio to become sugar cane plantation slaves to be worked to death. Nowadays, it’s all about toilet level humor and corny script writing. Man, if only I can relive the past one more time where the gold mine of those animated series and movies were.
Remember, different eyes, the difference between knowing of JESUS and knowing CHRIST. (Isaiah 12) There's nothing like having your little light in the presence of Everlasting Light/Eternal Fire. It's beyond paralyzing fear, it's "Holy Respect." Truly feels as if you're about to be destroyed, immediately followed by compassion/gentleness/peace/pure love cradling you. Many still don't realize how the Compassion & Authority go hand in hand. Repent and beg for forgiveness because nothing goes unseen by the unseen GOD.
For all the credit Rebecca Sugar gets for how daring she is, even she would sooner crap her pants than insert such a direct and honest discussion on religion like this.
If she is indeed the current standard in animation for “daring” with the superficial accolades that are heaped upon her for being so “stunning and brave” then we really have lowered the bar on powerful and intelligent themes in animation since the days of the X-Men the animated series unfortunately. And it’s really too bad because I think that she’s someone who really really has talents for coming up with her concepts of imaginative fantasy and science fiction in animation but she sadly wastes her time ignoring her own talents to instead beat people over the head with her woke political correctness. It’s a shame really because as long as she continues to do that she will never live up to her full potential of what she could’ve been. A prime example is that she came up with a very interesting sci-fi fantasy action adventure concept with the show Steven Universe and spend so many years hinting at unique secrets in the lore throughout the series and then proceeds to answer next to none of those interesting questions she raised in her own show and instead beat us over the head with woke, boring, nauseating political correctness and eventually ran out the clock until the show was unofficially canceled by the network with her having to wrap things up in one final rushed season. Years before that I had predicted or the very least suspected that that was likely going to happen because years earlier I had come to the conclusion that Rebecca sugar is a very talented woman that sadly makes her career by utilizing none of those talents to their proper potential because her woke agenda gets priority over telling a good story despite the fact that she had an interesting concept. I think that’s very sad because it’s a sad reminder that she has such potential that she is denying herself because of her stubborn adherence to political correctness, as long as she does that she will never achieve her true potential and I don’t expect to start now. Unfortunately the creator of the show Star vs The Forces Of Evil suffered exactly the same fate for her series as Steven universe did for Rebecca Sugar with both series finales having a massive backlash from irate fans who feel disappoint at what a colossal waste of time it all was so I’m noticing an unfortunate pattern here. You know what, I think from now on I’m going to call it Mass Effect 3 syndrome because all these examples seem to follow the same pattern of something that starts out interesting, has potential, and then by the finale is a total let down.
the beautiful thing about this is that there are some people out there who are just as tough as Logan, lived a long life and believed they've done too much, that have eventually turned to Christ.
I have seen a few comments here going on about "THE WOKE MOB WOULD NOT ALLOW THIS TODAY" and... Well, I think you are wrong people. IN fact, I am a bit shocked because you saw this clip which has a message of love and peace, and you went to anger. Let me point to the reason why I think you can totally do that today because I think the way they did it is just as relevant back then as it is now. Nightcrawler never attempts to pursue Logan to join his religion. I repeat: Kurt never tries to convert anyone in this group, especially not wolverine. What Kurt is telling Logan is that "People of all Faiths believe in a loving god". I want you to think about that statement. While it is obvious that Kurt is a Christian he is not saying: "Christianity teaches us that.." or "If you just go to knees and pray Logan" or anything like that. He sees, in that very moment, all religions that pray to a higher, loving power as one thing. He does not care if you are Jewish, Christian, Islamic, whatever. He only cares that there is a loving god, and that so many people cannot be wrong. That's it. And I get why they wrote it that way. 1) Because even back then, if I walk into my living room and see a cartoon for kids basically telling my kid to become Christian.. I might have a problem with that. It's totally natural to take a step back and go "Wait, in a kid show?!" So they included that line. And 2) It makes sense in the former way I mentioned, and even more so in context: The X-Man are outcasts. And Kurt shows them that he found a way to be part of something bigger. It might not work for them, but it works for him. But it would be mean to look at the kids and point at one specific religion and say "There you go, that's the right one". So even if they are not Christian, he basically extends the hand to the viewer and says: "ALL FAITHS". He brings them in! He practices what he preached! Even more importantly: When he hands Logan the bible, he simply says: "I marked some lines that I think will help you". He does not tell Wolverine to pray, to get on his knees, to visit a church, hell he does not even tell him to read it. He just goes: "Here. I think it might help you. I wish you the best, I hope you can find peace". That's it. And I think that is a big reason why we see Logan smiling at the end. Kurt never tried to push him, manipulate or control him like many others. Kurt is not even promising him anything. He just wants to help and gives Logan the choice. Does not matter if you are Christian or not, the layers here, and the way they are explored are superb. If anything I think the only way to improve it would have been to not show Logan at the church, but reluctantly opening the bible and then closing the episode with the quote.Because then its ambiguous. Then its implied but never stated and allows us to make our own choice. Just as Kurt did with Wolverine. Great stuff.
This already contridicted established comic lore. When fighting Dracula Wolverine tried to use the cross symbol but it didn't work because he didn't believe. And Nightcrawler isn't very catholic anymore thanks to the Purifiers/Church of Humanity.
I would also note that in the Xmas episode of Xmen Evolution (I think its called "On Angel's Wings" or something) it shows different faith-based celebrations. Including Kitty Pryde (an Ashkenazi Jewish-American) lighting a Menorah. Good on Xmen for showing all of these things.
I love how Kurt is written. It just seems if people are written with religion in mind they are tyrannical religious rulers or butt-monkeys who are idiots. He’s not oblivious to the awful of the world and likely not the awful things people do in the name of God. But he knows God loves his creations, and Kurt can choose to do good and love others too. He’s even written better in ‘97’
An episode right after this literally had Wolverine attack a guy for making a racist remark against Storm. The show was always progressive. It had black superheroes, queer-coded storylines, race politics, ect. It sounds more like you don't understand the ideologies the X-Men were already exploring. That's my long way of saying you're a fake fan.
@@batmanbeyond5766 Yes the X-Men were created as just another superhero team. I'm not denying that. But they became so much more with their storylines getting a constant progressive lean. They're fighting for equal rights for all humans and mutants alike, with a multi gendered superhero set of white, black, and asian among others fighting together for those ideals. They are literally THE most blatantly progressive superhero team EVER! While the Avengers and Guardians fight aliens and robots, the X-Men are fighting racism.
