What I like about your videos are the close-up views of the boots and the fact they looked worn in to show you actually have tried them out for a length of time. indicating your reviews are genuine.
Wolverine always go onsale. I just bought two 1000 miles captoe for $260 each vs $200-$285 Thursday boot. It definitely beats Thursday boot for value. I own both & wolverine is hands down the better shoe.
I have bought 3 pairs of Thursday's, 2 pairs of Red Wings and 1 pair of Wolverine 1000 miles. The Wolverine's are my favorite so far because of the fit. Everyone wants to overanalyze the materials or even price but at the end of the day... or I should say at the start of the day, you're going to reach for the pair that's comfortable.
I have both and for me the wolverines are a bit more comfortable...they are also a more rugged boot, both my rough out and cap toe are not as versatile as the captain...great review
I have both boots as well. While Chromexcel has the potential to be a better leather than Thursday chrome, it also has the potential to be a mess of loose grain. Luckily my Color 8 1Ks don’t suffer from this, but I’ve seen many boots that do (at all price points). Thursdays seem to be pretty consistent with their grain. I agree that the Thursdays are a better buy.
Do you have any experience with the Wolverine BLVD series boot. Giving that they’re the same price I’m surprised there aren’t more videos comparing them to the Thursdays.
Oh actually I was trying to ask wolverine about the width measurements for their M vs W vs EW and they could only tell me there is a 1/4" difference between the widths. I was looking for M7 but any size width will be good information- Do you have the width for any of the wolverine shoes you've pulled apart?
I think Wolverine saw your video and decided to go Mano a Mono by pricing the Wolverine Boulevard Cap Toe (brown) at $139. That's a great price, but I do think the Thursday has a better appearance.
Missed the mark on dress boot vs casual. For many of us, we only have one occasion for dress boots while alive. Weddings. And if we’re the groom, we more than likely aren’t wearing boots, and if we are it’s because it’s the best we got. That being said, the color 8 pics look awesome.
I like my Brown Thursday Captain, still not broken in yet, right heel blistered after a couple of miles of walking. They are a btch to break in, wore them at least 6 times, they also have the strongest leather smell of any boots I have ever had in my life. My car smells like a leather factory when I got the floor vent heat on. I don’t mind the smell but dang it’s strong.
Thanks for sharing this feedback- It can take a few wears to break in. We recommend going slow and wearing them a few hours a day so your foot gets used to the boot and slowly allows for the leather to break in. We love that leather smell but it can sometimes be strong initially but the leather smell will dissipate after more wears. Please don't hesitate to contact us directly at teamthursday@thursdayboots.com if you have any questions or concerns! Best, Kendra from Thursday
@@Thursdayboots ... I know once broken in it’ll last me a very long time, I just need to be a bit patient, and it’s harder to break in a pair during the winter months as the cold prevents the leather to stretch and mold easily. I don’t think there’s another company that has better boots for the price. I’m probably gonna miss the smell of the leather if it fades, lol. Also, I like to say I went to buy the Captains at the 48 W 21st location in Manhattan and the staff was very professional especially during the height of Covid.
....oh, and I also got picked up the Premier low tops in White last week when I got the email saying they were back in stock. Again, top notch quality at an unbeatable price!
Thank you for making this …! Great job. You’re a natural… great talking points and lots to ponder. Good stuff thank you. It’s hard to believe The Thursdays are 1/2 the price! Dave Colorado
Nice review, 2 things I’d like to callout/suggest. 1 get a resole or heel replacement on your Thursday before the eat into the stacked leather, a video on knowing more about when to do either option and what to look for in a cobbler would be cool. 2, this will only impact the short term but wanted to call it out anyway... the timing of this video is off, having just released the top 5 boots and Thursday makes the cut vs Wolverine there’s a clear winner and not a need to really watch this. Over time this feedback will be irrelevant, but wanted to share to keep the existing audience watching.
1.) I had that same thought---you're absolutely right. I've been lazy! But yeah, if I ever want to resole these, it's time to do it now before it's too late. 2.) I never considered that---great point! On that note, thank you so much for watching multiple videos---it means a lot that you've been following along and keeping up with the channel!
I think leather soles and underrated, my Thursday captains sole chipped off the tip of the sole after about a month of wear. They did come forward, send me a new pair and told me to keep them both (their customer service is top notch) but still, I know of other people that have had the exact same issue. Also I believe the Eva midsole is great for comfort and when it flattens out, cause it does, you can easily replace it; that said, they should do an all leather insole cause replacing that poron insole is a whole new level of repair.
The sb1 is much less comfortable, but I love the light tan leather in the outsole. Depends on how much walking you do. From a style perspective, I like the sb1. If you're putting in 2 or more miles a day, I'd go Thursday
Thursday boots are by far the better value. Price and build and wear are hands down better. Wolverine and Red Wing et al might be great boots, but until they make E or EE sizes I will be buying other brands. Thanks for another good video...
Thank you so much for watching, and yeah, sometimes the Wolverines can be found for near Thursday levels, which changes things, but otherwise, I totally agree.
The WOLVERINE 1000 Mile boot seem to have more features that makes this boot stand out and aesthetically pleasing to look at similar to a Red Wing Iron Ranger
i'd love to see you review the "Made in USA" version { "Thursday VANGUARD" in French Roast Colorway} and make the comparison between the regular Thursday Captain {$199} and Made in USA Vanguard {$265}...... i have the Captain already and im still eyeing the Vanguard {couldn't pull the trigger coz dont know much about it }i need to see more in-depth reviews.... thanks !
Entry Level boot, I really don't understand that term when applied to footwear. I've got boots from Grenson, Loake, Altberg, and Rufflander. What defines an entry level shoe? I thought it'd be booties for a 3 month old :)
Thursday captain is nice but cmon now not better than wolverine 1000 mile how come you didn't mention the Thursday doesn't even have a counter inside it
I think the boot's heritage and history should also be a factor. When you buy a 1000 mile, or an Iron Ranger, or an Alden Indy, you're getting history and heritage with those boots that you just can't get with Thursday. On another note, I'd like to see a boot channel resole their Thursday Captain's, review it, then wear them for a year or so and review it again. I'm curious how well a Thursday boot's synthetic midsole, insole, and welt hold up after a resole and subsequent wear. I don't think I've seen anyone on youtube do that.
Avoid Wolverine boots. Horrible customer service and misleading information regarding returns. Their website states free returns but they don't mention anywhere that the original shipping charge is not refunded. Lesson learned for $8, never dealing with that company again.
I'll pay an extra $200 anytime to support my American brother and sister workers. Got two pairs of the Wolverines, and two of the Iron Rangers. No regrets on either purchase and I will continue to support both companies with my dollars. Check out Pigeon Tree Crafting for belts that go nicely with either of those brands and more.
I could say the same for the Wolverines here as well, the leather sole kinda ruins them in the durability department. Of course you can spend the extra dosh to get the Evan or Axel models with the rubber soles but at that point you've just doubled the cost of the Thursdays.
