"A woman who threatened to call police about a young African-American girl selling water on a San Francisco sidewalk is being mocked online as "Permit Patty" in what some see as yet another example of black people being censured for seemingly harmless acts.
The confrontation came after the 8-year-old girl was selling water to passersby near AT&T Park to help pay for a trip to Disneyland, CNN affiliate WFLA reported.
Alison Ettel, a white woman who lives nearby, became annoyed by what she said was constant yelling about $2 water bottles for sale outside her window. So she confronted the girl's mother and then appeared to call the police.
A representative for Ettel said the woman's actions were not racially motivated."

I understand that calling the cops on people of color can EASILY be a death sentence for the person of color. That being said, Permit Patty's business is NOT illegal! She lives in California and cannabis is legal in our state. I realize that the checkerboard cannabis laws in the US are wacky, but do try to keep up. Calling a cannabis business in California in 2018 "illegal" is just plain uninformed.

About a month prior to this story the cops were called on 3 white boys who opened a lemonade stand to collect money for a charity. The cops were called, the cops came and shut them down.

I called the police once over a neighbor being too loud. Because it was 2 AM, I had to work in the morning, and they had their stereo so loud that I could hear the lyrics perfectly from in my apartment, while wearing earplugs. And that's just unacceptable. Stop giving passes to these people. By calling the police the girl and her mother could have been exposed to unwarranted drama. That woman deserves to lose her job, etc. Calling the police is a serious matter and if she had made the call she would have been liable to a charge of wasting state resources which is an offence no matter what jurisdiction you are from. She is an adult, a racist, a liar and a loser who deserves the grief she brought on herself. I am glad the little girl got the opportunity to go to Disney...She deserves to be rewarded for her entrepreneurial spirit against the backdrop of her mom losing her job.

i live WAAAAAAYYYY in the middle of nowhere... i have 40 acres, so basically a 20 acre buffer on either side... and STILL i have people that come up on the weekends over the summer, ripping around on boats and atvs, making a lot of racket... i hate it... i wish they would go away... but i realize i can literally have a brain aneurism on my couch because of it and they wouldn't care... so i can cause myself grief, or i can appreciate they're having fun, just not my kind of fun, it will end when they go home, and it's not REALLY causing me anything more than a minor inconvenience. pick your battles.

Why are we giving her a pass. That's the problem that she is now the victim when she created this problem. When people of color have the police called on them it does not always end well. So her feelings are not really o the top of my things to care about as she never thought about her actions and how they effect others. So cry me a river. OK forget the race of the little girl for a minute... who calls the police on an 8 yr old girl selling water/lemonade/cookies??? Vendor laws do not apply here, does she not know that? Brownies and Guides sell cookies and lemonade stands exist all throughout summer - they are allowed bcos they don't make big profits. The money the 8 yr old would have raised, would have probably only paid for luggage or a few outfits. How many lemonade stands without permits do the police run to close down every day? NONE I'm sure, and most prob do not have a permit. Patty prob does not deserve death threats at all, but she could have gone about it a better way. I can understand why people are upset with her.

These people need a psychologist. I've considered that maybe some people have a phobia of dark skin. I've tried to understand the issue and can't wrap my head around it but the more I see how these people behave and realize the similarities of their behavior the more I lean towards psychological issues. They get tense, agitated, cry, swesr, become manic. It's as if you discovered a spider crawling on you and all your nerves become heightened suddenly.
