I'm into being positive and realistic. In this case, realistic means- great work that we're trying to be active and explore techniques to use to defend ourselves. My advice is whatever techniques anyone likes or attempts to add to their defenses- practice, practice, practice. Practice doesn't have to consume your life but you will need to make a time and effort investment. Even 5-10 minutes, twice a week, add it to your regular workout, exercise, etc. Practice your punches, elbow, knees, your positions and movenents- it's one classic way to add a practicality to the theory.
