🍫 Get ready for a delectable cinematic treat with my review of "Wonka," the prequel to the beloved Willy Wonka story! Starring the talented Timothée Chalamet as the young and ambitious Willy Wonka, this film follows his inspiring journey from humble beginnings to the cusp of chocolate stardom.
🌟 Join me as we delve into the captivating narrative of a young and aspiring Willy Wonka, determined to open his own chocolate shop in a city renowned for its cocoa delights. However, his dreams hit a roadblock when he discovers the chocolate industry's stranglehold in the hands of greedy chocolatiers.
🎭 With stellar performances from Timothée Chalamet, Olivia Colman, and the unexpected addition of Hugh Grant as an Oompa Loompa, "Wonka" promises to be a whimsical yet thought-provoking journey into the origins of the enigmatic chocolatier.
🎬 Directed by Paul King, known for his imaginative storytelling in "Paddington," this prequel explores themes of ambition, resilience, and the bittersweet reality of the chocolate business. I'll discuss the film's direction, performances, and how it contributes to the rich universe of Willy Wonka.
🍭 Additionally, we'll explore the movie's visual aesthetics, musical score, and how it pays homage to the classic Willy Wonka tale while offering a fresh perspective on the origins of the iconic chocolate factory.
🤔 Share your thoughts in the comments below! Are you excited about "Wonka" and the new spin it brings to the Willy Wonka universe? Let's unwrap this delightful cinematic experience together and celebrate the sweet legacy of Willy Wonka!

Had the exact same take going in- thought the trailer seemed forced, specifically with Chalamet, but came out of the movie feeling upbeat and moved, and glad I still have yet to see a Chalamet performance I didn't admire. His singing was perfect for the movie (not too big/Broadway) and I'd like to see more dancing from him after this (he seemed to rock it the brief times you see him dance). Rest of the cast was also on-point and charming, without overdoing it. Agree this is a great family movie option.

The vibe that Im getting from this one ia that it is a pretty damn charming movie that fans of the original aren’t vibing with because it doesn’t tap into the unhinged nature of the character present in that first film. Regardless, it has holiday hit written all over it

Actually, it’s 5-stars! This prequel was great! We just watched the movie “Wonka”. It was true to spirit magical wonder of both the original Roald Dahl’s 1964 book “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and Gene Wilder’s 1971 movie musical “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory”). Great singing and choreography. Timothée Chalamet picks up on all of the Gene Wilder mannerisms and energy to give a excellent performance. I especially loved the Oompa Loompa with Hugh Grant's voice and face. So many nods and beloved lines to the Gene Wilder movie. This prequel Wonka gets to the heart of why he started the factory and brought in the Oompa Loompas in the first place. The prequel theme is about the importance of holding onto our dreams, delightful creative wonder of candy, and the extreme importance of mothers. My favorite quote of the movie… "It’s not the chocolate that matters; it’s the people you share it with." ~ Momma Wonka Take the whole family (all ages). Definitely a must see movie!!!

I'm not a big fan of musical movies except the Muppets, I have not a lot of nostalgic memories of the original and remake but for what it's worth, the movie was absolutely fantastic. My fiancee and I have seen over 40 films each in cinema this year and despite films like Barbie, Oppenheimer and Guardians of the Galaxy 3 it's her favourite film of the year and it's in my top 5 too. The screens were pretty full and the reaction of the crowd was extremely positive, especially the song "For a Moment" with the dance on top of the zoo building had half the women in the crowd crying. I would be surprised not to see the song nominated for best original song.

People are going to keep doubting chalamet every time a movie he's in comes out. I feel like people expect him to not last very long but people forget that he's been acting at a very high level consistently since he was very young and he chooses the right roles. His range is really good. He was great in bones and all. That movie is criminally under watched. Ik it's subject matter is like ya know cannibalism but still the movie is about much much more than that. It's a tragic and beautiful love/coming of age/struggle with addiction story that I wish more people would watch.

Just saw it in Belgium (already out here-) and I can't believe how good this was. The original movie traumatized me as a kid and the Burton movie was one of my fav as a kid. Even though this movie removes a lot of the darkness from the original story, it is *such* a beautiful movie. It really feels like an instant holiday classic you'd discover on a random afternoon when you were a kid browsing in a blockbuster. I'm not a musical guy but I was smiling and tapping my toes at almost every number. The villains in particular have a hilarious song. Such a nice surprise this movie!🍭🍬🍫

The new Young Willy Wonka seems more like a mixture of Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp’s Willy Wonkas than just being a specific one of them. For example, Young Wonka’s outfit seems more like Gene Wilder’s Wonka with the hat and the bright uniquely patterned shirt but the general colour scheme of his outfit such as his coat looks more like Johnny Depp’s Wonka. Timothée Chalamet’s Wonka also has curly hair, an optimistic charming smile and energy similar to Gene Wilder’s Wonka.

I like the songs. Maybe they're still not memorable to me yet because I've only seen the movie once but as soon as the soundtrack comes out, i'm eager to listen to the songs again. Maybe it'll made me appreciate the songs more and more like i did with The Greatest Showman. Nothing special about the songs but it fits the Willy Wonka vibe perfectly. As soon as i heard the songs, i was instantly hooked with the lyrics and the musical sequences although i haven't really remember the songs yet so i'm definitely buying the soundtrack

I've stopped taking trailers literally. A lot of people watch trailers for films or TV shows, and think they know the whole thing. A good film can have a bad trailer and vice versa, and viewers typically get an image of the tone of the film from a collage of scenes from it, and then judge the film on how closely it met their preconceived perception of it. I only watched the trailer for Wonka once, about a month before I saw it in theaters, and as a stand alone film, it's incredible. However, it's a lousy prequel to Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. As a prequel, I'd give it a 5/10 But since I strongly believe you should only ever judge something by its own merits. As a film, I give it an 8.5/10

if anyone tells you willy wonka or roald dahl has very dark undertones, just know they DID NOT READ HIS BOOKS AS A CHILD! they read them as an adult and took the books and themes too seriously. as a kid reading that a fat kid drowned in a river chocolate is funny and the other outcomes are funny too. so sick of all these losers that didnt grow up on his books trying to state that there was always some dark sinister edge to the books. kids have a better sense of humor than a 40yo hipster reading the BFG or james and giant peach for the first time and thinking the themes in it are far too adult and dark for a childs mind!

I was excited to see this film but then I watched it. It's bad, very, very bad. bad script. bad lighting. bad characters. bad plot. bad actors and acting. the only redeeming quality was the songs I guess. what it lacked was that it didn't relate to the original pretty much at all. this film made no sense.why couldn't they have made it like an actual prequel? where's the huge factory? where's all the Oompa Loompa's? sure Huge Grant shows up late as one which was very disappointing. it's like they didn't really want them in the film. it was just a bad idea poorly executed. 3 stars out of 10 for me.
