This is only the second brown trout I've carved.
The first one I carved was about two years ago.
So we'll see how far I've come when we see the difference between that one and this one when I finish.

It's the little tips that you share that are most useful. So much to learn, so little time. All that you have done and yet you still have painting to do.

Thank you. A lot of The tips I share are some I’ve learned from other carvers, many are things that I’ve learned from trial and error. Im still learning so Some of the tips and techniques I use today I may not use next year. So you’ll have to keep watching to see new and hear new tips 😜 I watch some of my first videos of my first few carvings and I’ve come a long way but still have a long way to go😵‍💫

Danny I think the fins on the trout really make the carving come to life. So much attention to detail is why I enjoy watching your videos. Keep them coming can't wait to see the painting!

Thanks Ron, I’m editing the first part of the painting now but you can see a sneak peek in shorts. I did a 60 short on the base painting.

Hey I’ve got another friend that has a carving channel I think you might like. He’s an awesome chip carver. I think you may know him his name is Ron Gableman he said he had you on one of his carving chatter videos. Here is his channel if you’d like to feature him. youtube.com/@BasswoodCarving?si=O2B_jgXoDJhSZHvu

Danny, in all my viewings of people carving, your channel does the best job of demonstrating how to get the details right. Well done, sir! On another note, I am preparing to invest in a variable-speed rotary tool with the foot pedal. Do you have any recommendations?
@Danny_Harris-Arts
@Danny_Harris-Arts 5 месяцев назад
Thanks Dan I appreciate the kind words. As far as a rotary tool you can’t go wrong with a Foredom SR It will come with the 44T hand piece but you have to change out the collet for different sized bits. It’s easy to change but a pain to stop and change several times. They also have a H30 that has a drill chuck type collet that will accept small 3/32 to 5/32nd bits I’ve got both. I keep the 44T set up for my bigger 1/4” shaft bits and use the H30 for smaller bits. If you haven’t seen it I have a video I made on my most used tools.

Had to throw out my Apoxie Sculpt myself, must be better options out there

I’m hoping by buying it in smaller containers will eliminate the problem of it drying out. I’m going to order some apoxie clay and see if it holds up any better.
