Hello RU-vid, welcome back to my channel.
In todays video I am turning an old Lignum Vitae lawn bowl into a really funky project. This is one of the hardest woods out there and it shows, this has to be one of the toughest makes I have done to date.

great video They sure are tough to turn but the wood is lovely when finished I always start with small forstner bits and work my way up saves a lot of time that way

Lignum was used as a bearing for the Titanic prop shaft, it’s the forth hardest wood in the world

You really need to look at the basics of what you are doing. You are working in a dangerous way. I’m not surprised you had the piece spin off and you were lucky it didn’t cause you any physical damage. Turn a mortise or tenon. Use your tail stock. Use a smaller bit (pilot) to core out and then increase the size. But always turn the outside first (with the tailstock in) to get the piece more balanced before you start on the inside.
