Ok man, find some burl black walnut, that has some sapwood (purple striping) in it, and give that a whirl!! The hand wiped finish will jump out and getcha!!

Balustrades!? The uprights of a staircase handrail - different woods to make an amazing luxurious effect. And we get to see the finished staircase in a client's house or your house or maybe given to someone humbly worthy or a community-based or civic building!?

Anything but bowls, I feel like that's all you ever make, there are other things that can be turned, spindles, abstract statues, candle stick holders, you could even turn Christmas decorations, just please take a break from all the freaking bowls.

I know nothing about wood, so please forgive me if this is a silly question, but did you know there'd be that beautiful red wood inside before you turned it, or was it a nice surprise to you too when it revealed itself? Beautiful work, thank you for sharing.

I don’t mean to be disrespectful and, your skill is brilliant but, I can’t see the point of taking a beautiful piece of burr, turning down so far that it has two holes in the side and, sweeping most of it up to throw away ! ……. Just saying 🙈

I’m not a fan of the wings. Can’t you turn the center bowl and then hand carve the wings to make a larger oblong bowl, instead of having flat wings? Just a thought. It’s a beautiful piece.
@JackMackWoodturning
@JackMackWoodturning Год назад
No… you have to think in 3 dimensions.. there is no wood there to turn that into a bowl… the sides are too thin for that. the biggest bowl that could come Out of this piece Was the one I turned .

@JackMackWoodturning [Hey Picasso, that looks dumb, could you put the nose up on the left? 👍🏻] Jack, Some people don’t understand art. It’s a shame, but true. I think this piece is very cool. Since you didn’t show the other side in the beginning I was surprised to see the dark color. I knew the grain would be freakin’ amazing, and I was correct (😜) but the color…! And when you put the finish on it the red tones really popped. I love this piece. I know I’ve had comments in the past, but I’ve owned them. I have never (God I hope not), I will never - tell someone to change their art. And I certainly would NEVER say (or think) someone else’s art is (fill in rude comment here)…really. [Hey Monet would you turn up the focus on that pond thing. It looks stupid being fuzzy.] Namaste’, Kevin

@MySteaming
@MySteaming 11 месяцев назад
@@JackMackWoodturning Anything can feature on an object can be described as 'adding character'. A car with a smashed front wing caused by an accident can be described as 'added character'. The point is - was it intentional to have the rim destroyed in 2 places or - was it an unforeseeable accident? I think the object would have looked better with a smaller dia 'continuous' rim, thus avoiding the flaws in the wood.
