Simple and easy man,I was hours watching tutorials and have a go on this thing and was so dificult and yours so easy 2 minutes done ...thank u very much bro
THANK YOU!!! This same method works if you want to number the abstract/acknowledgements/contents pages with roman numerals while leaving the title page free from a page number. Put another page break at the start of the abstract page and repeat the process, clicking the dropdown for roman numerals in 'format page numbers'.
THANK YOU!!!! I have watched tons of videos and I was so confused! They either talked too much or did not explain it thoroughly. You saved me so much time! Because of that, I will subscribe to your channel. Thank you, again.
Good Instruction! Thank You. I have a question dealing with running document page numbering, while displaying the section number AND the page number of the section itself. In essence, three(3) numbers: One page number for the entire document; one for the page number of the section; and one for the section. Thanking you or anyone in advance.
Thank you, this was used as a reminder of how to do page numbering since I was struggling with numbering my research pages, you instructions are easy to follow are very helpful.
I set the page break on page 4, and did everything exactly the same. I can indeed start on page 4 now with 1, but as soon as I delete the first page numbers everything gets deleted (also later in the document) except for the number 1 on page 4.
Just check the "Link to previous" again. it had turned back on for me, and therefor I could not delete the numbers on the first pages, without deleting the rest. If you make sure to turn the box of, you can delete the numbers.
Suppose I decide to add roman figures on the ToRs page, Content page before the Pg4, How do I go about that? Such as i, ii, iii, then subject / introduction will begin as page 1.
It is SOOO STUPID that Word makes something as EASY (or SHOULD BE EASY ) as counting pages and turns it into a monumental mess. Once upon a time, when you put in a number (1) the computer had the sense to add the rest. When did adding page numbers become an issue?
Brilliant! This also works for people who need Roman numerals to numbers in research papers. Just repeat the process only insert numbers rather than Romans...fantastic video! Thanks!
No, it doesn't work with Word 16.37. Everything's fine up to removing (deleting) the page number on the top (de-linked) section, but then deleting those numbers also deletes the numbers in the bottom (delinked section). Unbelievably frustrating! Please help!
Thank you so much, Chris for your excellent demonstration! You were so clear on how to perform this function and your delivery was at a very appreciative pace! I am going to follow your great instructions! However, I need to insert Roman numerals into the pages prior to pages 1, etc, throughout my manuscript, so I will follow the same instruction and see if it works! If not, I will email you to ask how to insert Roman numerals prior or after I insert page numbers throughout my manuscript. BTW, I love your Scottish accent! Thank you again for your awesome instructions and delivery!
I wish i had watched this an hour ago before i submitted my report when i was looking for these videos., you made this so straightforward but i'm still so upset., at least i know for future work., thank you very much kind sir
Hello. Thank you so much for the video. Could you tell me please why instead of page 1 I get 0. I followed you step by step but once I clicked link to previous the page number turns into 0 and there is no page 2,3, 4 etc...Thank you so much for your help.
To stop the changes in d previous pages or on the next pages when made. It delinks the broken section, which means changes in one section do not make changes in another section. Its a deselection process.
thank you so much after hours of checking you tube channels that can help you're the most relevant one that helped me understand and tackle my probem. You're one legit teacher!!!!:)
Thanks, Chris, I really appreciate the time you took to go over the process in detail. I've watched MANY other videos on the same subject, which were not helpful! Happy to report that I was finally able to remove unwanted page numbers, thanks to your thorough explanation.
This does not work. When I follow your directions and click "Next Page," a blank page appears between the first and second sections. I don't want that page. But when you click it, you do not get a blank page. Why?
Why the heck can't they just have a button "restart page numbering"? Microsoft make everything so bloody complicated you spend more time faffing around with the software than actually doing anything useful.
For the fifth time today, I tried to format page numbers. They went so far and then reverted. I want to insert the page numbers MANUALLY. Is this possible? I cannot go through this formatting nightmare again. I followed ALL the instructions and it still doesn't work.
Thank you, Chris sir this video is really very beneficial. Before seeing this video I really don't know how to specify the page number thanks a lot for providing such video.
I can change the page numbers to where I wish to start from. However... When I delete the other page numbers I don't want. Why does it then delete all the other ones and leaves just the correct first page number??? Utter fucking crap.
Followed the instructions to the letter but when I delete 4, with 1 starting on page 5 all the numbers disappear, Except for 1 on page 5 and 1 on the very first page can you please help.
I think my formatting is not working. It labeled 3 pages all the same page number and I want numerical order starting at page 7. Any help would be greatly appreciated
There is one situation dealing publishing books in which you have mirror images and odd/even pages. Do the same with the introduction again with my senerio, please.
It's a shame it only shows a number on one page and no others. I might have to just type them all in manually and it's a 500 page manuscript. I've watched about 50 of these videos and none of them work.
I just wanna say... I LOVE YOU!! Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you so much!! Note that i typed all the 'Thank You' manually, to show you how much I appreciate this video! TTvTT
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I was losing my mind trying to get my document properly paginated. You made it easy. Also, love your accent. Viva Scotland!
Dear Chris - Thank you very much! I appreciate having the video AND the printed version. Together they will help me get this process permanently imprinted in my brain! :) Now I need to know how to put small roman numerals on the beginning pages (title, ToC, etc.) Do you have a video on that? Mary
SLOW DOWN! I don't know anything, and you're rolling along at 60 MPH. Good information, but presented much too fast. And it would be helpful if you were to direct our eyes to the tabs you are clicking on or move your curser more slowly so we could watch where it is going.
I'm sorry that the pace of the video was a little quick for you, I'll consider this in the future. Should this happen again with any other video, RU-vid provides the ability for the user to reduce the playback speed. You may benefit from this.
Following Chris's instructions, my page numbering was consecutive starting at the introduction as page 1. However, when I tried deleting numbers on the page above the introduction, all of my numbers in the document dissappeard.
In this video I'm using Word 2013. In this video when inserting a page number, you'll see Header and Footer does show above the "Design" tab - Microsoft dropped this in later versions.
Hei, Thanks for this, I have been using your tutorial for my first 3 school projects. But something is wrong this time, it seems that the numbering stops on page 1 and doesn’t continue down to the last page. Please help!
I did exactly the fucking same, but as soon as I delete the fucking first page numbers it deletes all while it's fucking unlinked. I've been on this shit here for 5 fucking hours now
Just check the "Link to previous" again. it had turned back on for me, and therefor I could not delete the numbers on the first pages, without deleting the rest. If you make sure to turn the box of, you can delete the numbers.
I'd go through and remove all the breaks you've inserted and try it again. Click on the Show/Hide button (Ctrl+*) to see where the breaks are. Good luck!
This was very helpful. How to make the total pages match this, too? i.e. I have started my page numbering from p.10 which now shows as page 1 of 140, yet I only want it to count 130 pages in total. Any ideas? Thanks in advance
Good question Stephen. I think you'd want to insert a Next Page break after Page 130 then Unlink from Previous. Page 131 would then start from 1 again but you could remove the page numbers from it. That's my initial thoughts from my smartphone, I can confirm on desktop when I get some time.
I followed this exactly and everything worked - right up until the end. When I highlighted the number 3 on the third page of the first section - ALL the numbers in the entire document deleted. Not sure what to do...
