One of the core values of the WordPress community is sharing knowledge and experience. It’s one of the basic foundations of the WordPress General Public License (GPL). As part of being an open source platform, the GPL enables anyone to copy and redistribute any piece of code that is related to WordPress - including all plugins and themes created for this platform. Although most developers in the WordPress community don’t abuse this, it’s no secret that there are malicious trolls out there that make a profit by copying entire products and selling them as their own - most of the time for a fraction of the original price - and, by doing so, cause significant financial damage to hard working, honest people.
