Working At Taco Bell Means You Have To Follow Some Weird Rules

I currently work at Taco Bell and can honestly say that our store has never had to follow any of these rules. They are more worried about the drive thru time then how much a tacos weighs.

I’ve worked at a few Taco Bell’s, and I’ve NEVER heard any of these rules. Except for the weight of the food items. The rest of the rules are bogus.

I worked at Taco Bell for a time when I was young, and I am here to tell you their kitchen is absolutely spotless, and the food is fresh. I was extremely impressed.

As a former Taco Bell employee, I find this list totally absurd, especially the repeated claim from a previous video that employees have to throw out perfectly good orders that are a tenth of an ounce over the official weight. The only rules that are believable are the common-sense rules: Don't wear your cap backwards, and don't bring in food from competitors.

I absolutely HATED working at taco bell the one I worked at was extremely filthy and gross and my boss was really rude and treated his employees like crap and he tried to force me to come into work sick which is a HUGE health violation

This is the 2nd video in like two weeks where you talk about Taco Bell throwing away items that aren't weighed correctly. For the love of GOD, this isn't happening.

I currently work there, 15 years ago at a location I no longer work at, we would trade with other restaurants. For example, we would send tacos, burritos, chalupas to Pizza Hut in exchange for pizza, wings, and desserts. We once traded food to L.A. Fitness for a 1 month pass. At my current location, we don't trade, but we sure do order out. The company in fact gives our GM Visa gift cards to purchase food once a month for the employees for an incentive. The company rules can be relaxed as long as employees follow the day to day policies. The company cares about appearance and proper hand washing. Other than that, have fun and don't burn the place down.

I'm a Taco Bell employee myself, and I feel obligated to mention, these rules may STRONGLY depend on how strict or lenient your particular franchise is. Some could be strict and actually hold, and ENFORCE these rules, mine however does not. We get food from competing fast food restaurants all the time when we aren't in the mood for the same food we usually eat for our breaks, we all roll our burritos in the so-called "undesirable" way and never receive complaints about it. And while we have scales in our kitchen to weigh items but those are honestly literally never used. When you are on a busy shift, the last thing anyone is worried about is if a taco or burrito is a smidge too heavy. And they don't mind if employees come by when they're off-shift. As for the sauce packets, one of my Managers DID tell me that I was supposed to put one packet per item, but when you're needing to get orders out quickly, you just grab a moderate handful and be done with it, when it's slow though I do try to be more careful of my sauce distribution. I wouldn't say that this video is incorrect or anything, it simply just doesn't apply to the TB location I happen to be employed at, if you're trying to dabble in the fast food business and TB is in your sights, take these supposed "hidden rules" with a grain of salt...

I'm 16 been working for 6 months there the first 3 isn't true,scale thing is true ,4th is true,5th is not true I can come in anytime to hang out , 6th is true ,sauce packets is one sauce per item unless if ask for more we usually do 3 per item. Taco bell is the busiest after 10 pm somehow

All I have to say is thank you every Taco Bell employee who did wonderful jobs on every food item I've tried out in my life!

Rolling in the "I" shape works just fine if they would just roll in the right direction.Roll one way and everything is even. if you roll it the other way (basically changing direction by 90 degrees) you get bites of individual ingredients.

Where did this information come from? I worked at Taco Bell and I never heard of these rules.

As a Taco Bell worker myself most of these facts were inaccurate. Many Taco bells are franchises, at my Tacobell all employees eat for free up to a certain limit. We can come up to the store anytime we want off the clock.

Had some Taco Bell tacos last week for the first time in a year or so. And they were bland and tasteless. Ortega at home is 10X better.

There are two Taco Bell's near where I live. I've noticed that the portions very quite a bit. Just for fun I've weighed them when I get home and the same items in the same order very quite a bit. I'm sure that they're all over the minimum, and under the theoretical maximum, maybe. But I don't think they use a very good scale. I've also noticed that the contents of the items varies quite a bit. That maybe because of the problems getting raw materials. But the rules for working there don't seem too extreme I've worked under more strict rules for most of my work life. And their hats do look nice.

A cousin of mine works at a Taco Bell. They hardly get customers through the day. It's very slow, and ends up getting sent home early.

I just want them to bring back the damn double decker taco. What were they thinking...

I worked at a pizza chain while in college, we used to trade food for places like taco bell and some burger joints. We would call them up or they would call us up on a Sat noon or Sun noon and would say, "hey this is so and so at taco bell across the street, you guys wanna trade?" We did it all the time, but this was also back in the 90s as well

We finally got a Taco Bell in my small town to my huge relief! Unfortunately they must not have seen this video or attended any training sessions as the food varies greatly. I've gotten soft and hard tacos that were overflowing with ingredients and then gotten some close to empty. Crunchwrap Supremes can be bulging or paper thin and either undercooked or way overcooked. Bean Burritos are always a surprise with open ends so the beans plop out in your lap. I'm disappointed with my new store but still relieved to not have to eat at o ur Sonic which is also the worst one I have ever seen.

Wondering why some location do not enforce their ID badge on the uniform. Tried to get a name to file feedback and found out person lied about name.

I once ordered several taco bell items with a handful of fire sauce packets. Not even joking, I was able to fill up a gallon ziplock bag full of sauce packets. Took me over a year to use them all up. Thanks taco bell :)

I work at taco bell now and i will tell you, it is all up to the manager in charge. The only rule that is constantly enforced is the burito fold method. At my location specifically we are told that we must close no earlier than 1am on most days but 3am on friday saturday and sunday. Managers usually close lobby doors around 10pm and the drive stays open as they slowly break things down so they can be out within 30 min of closing. The hat thing is something ive never heard of. I got coworkers wearing hats forwards backwards sideways or not at all and nothing gets said unless its an inspection day then its forward backward or not at all. I am allowed to leave the store with food i made myself in store, i am allowed to show up on my day off. We do have a scale in store but never once have i sacrificed time to weigh a food item even during inspection or when the district manager is around. Some of these just dont sound right honestly. For a frame of reference my distriçt currently has 32 taco bells (when i was hired a year ago there were 29) i dont know if its different in smaller or larger ones.

I'm practicing self control not ordering taco bell at 11:45pm after drinking tonight.... Ugh! I want!! Lol

2) employees are allowed at the store any time it is open... whether on shift, or not...

We always bring in outside food. Bags boxes, Doordarshan, home-made stuff, drinks, partially made so the 3-cheese blend can be added then steamed/grilled. We do stay open past close. We offer them a condolence & tell them we are closed. Sometimes we're cussed at, but most just go on their way.

The receipt part of the video really didn’t matter in my case because I had my receipts in both cases where I had my order wrong and I even told them at the drive-thru and they still needed approval from the manger to remake my stuff even though I told them who I spoke to on the phone the night b4

For the rule that says they stay over bullshit, when I get off work from my job Taco Bell is usually the only thing open an sometimes the line is long an as soon as it strikes midnight a automated voice comes over the speaker where u order saying they are closed even though the line still has people in it and the staff is still there

As far as the scales, we weigh first and last items only. We don't weigh every single thing. I had worked for Burger King for 6 years, from 96'-02', they also had scales, but were pointless. The Whopper had a patty, mayo, 2 slices of tomatoes, 4 pickles, the only thing you actually had to guess on were lettuce and onions, but the weight of a Whopper were pretty consistent.

these are some wired rules especially as a former employee myself. what I though was really ridicules and I dont know if this was just my location to the way my manager was but we had to wear all black which I understand a lot of fast food places are black so no problem I was ok with that. the problem I had if our socks had to be black as well which I think is just nuts, how cares about black socks its not like you see and notice it like every time at every second. people hardly sees your socks. so that part I really hated

They don't have to worry about anything weighing too much here. There's hardly enough stuff on them to see. We've gone to others out of our area and can't believe the amount of stuff they put in them.

Luckily our taco bell never has a line of traffic no matter what time of day it is so they always get to close on time. I think the vast inconsistencies in the portions has helped kill their business but at least I know now they all weigh the same.

I have never used a scale after making a taco when i worked at taco bell. I also never received training. 🤷🤣 i once opened a bag of lettuce that had a sour smell. My manager told me to use it anyway. I will never trust a taco bell after that.

I call BS on the item weight. I've gone to different locations, and they skimped on the meat at one - but gave a decent amount at another. The other issue I've seen lately is they aren't giving out receipts - at least, not at the location I go to near me. This is in addition to the norm of them not giving napkins or the sauces (even if you ask for them).

Once Dr. Pepper went away from Taco Bell, i pretty much stop going there... who drinks "caffeine free" Root Beer?? And why is there no regular Root Beer option??

I worked Taco Bell in Las Vegas way back in 1968 and don't remember any of these rules. I DO remember lots of cute women in see-through blouses after any Elvis concert. (They usually go their orders free from this 16 year old .....)

The Taco Bell where I live close at 10:00 p.m. now every night. They used to stay open till 3:00 a.m. weeknights and 4:00 a.m. on weekends. But they can't keep employees and it's because they treat their employees like crap! Honestly they will understand intentionally on busy nights they never give raises and they won't accept any excuse for calling in including being sick... you'll get fired! I feel bad for their employees!

Some of these things about Uniforms, portion control and things like "receipts must be presented" I'd like.... Where in the FUNK are you people from!? Standards and practices are the staple to a successful restuarant! 1 packet of sauce per item? Ask for an "ish load of sauce" and get a separate bag full of them. I haven't worked for T-bell but I've worked for their parent company! There's a reason why taco bell has been around for a hot minute! Logic. That's what makes business succeed. Labor and food cost are priority #1 in food service. Errthang else falls into place after that.
