Haha! You are ... fantastic. I have found my first narrowboat channel by total chance a bit more than 2 weeks ago, and my life has become focused then. Before, I was in a limbo - the big goal of the tensies, which was to release a book and have it available to buy for everyone, was reached in 2016. Ever since then I was without a goal in life. That has hurt my writing, I have written less than a third of what I think I should have, but that's changing now. My goal is simple: Join you on the canals. Being Swiss and broke that is a tall goal, especially as I cannot imagine living in a second-hand boat. Mine needs to be new, that's the only way I can imagine doing this. So the plan is laid out and in 5 to 8 years I should be able to come over. The plan, as you asked what we do for our living, is this: Write books as primary income, work my 3 youtube channels (2 gaming related, 1 vlogs) and sell the game-collection I'll start making dev-vlogs about in a month or so. I am currently 42 years of age and can tell you this about work-life balance: It's paramount. I have tried going the carreer-route, burned out and watched my life collapse into a large pile of rubble. That was 14 years ago. The last of the debt that came to be in this time was paid off last year, and now I'm ready to start living my way. It'll take some doing to get there, but that's all right: The course is set. :-D Oh, edit sais: Almost forgot: This is your first video I found and I even rung the bell! Now I'll start cruising on your channel! ;-D

You two are so adorable! Geeks and nerds too :) Pixel is one of the cutest dogs I've ever seen, those bunny hops and the fascination with sticks...lol. Thank you for making these videos. I have been watching through them from the beginning the past several months and some other narrowboat channels. Y'all are definitely one of my favorites. I'd love to do narrowboat living but alas as an American with health issues it may not be in my cards yet one never knows. I've done a bit of backpacking travel and vanlife before my health took a major down turn and I have access to a small cabin (with no running water but electricity) on a lake part of the year so I can get bits and pieces of nature and solitude that way. The small space issues are similar and I get some good tips from the narrowboaters. Also recently someone started a widebeam rental company on the canal I live on, he got the idea from travels in Europe (which for us here means the UK as well). I didn't realize that there was still enough of it to be as navigable as it is. Nothing like what the UK has nor the same vibe but I think I'll check it out when my health improves. Hi, great vid, thanks. We use EE on an unlimited data tariff for about £34pcm. This is not cheap but it is excellent. We actually live in a UK rural house and all BT could offer (they control all the lines at our local telephone exchange) was 10mbps download and 0.75 upload and it was unreliable. We were charged about £30 for that, though we may have found a better tariff if we shopped-around (we were with the excellent provider, Zen-Internet but, alas, good as they were, they depended on BT for all the specs and unreliability). So BT proposed fibre - yea! For the sixteen cottages here, they wanted £1,760 and warned it might not be that fast because we were a distance from the exchange. Then, recently, three and EE offered the new package. So we scrapped all the landline (yes 'phone, too), bought a new router (not dissimilar to yours - actually the Huawei one suggested by the chaps from Silver Fox) and an aerial (thanks again, Foxes). We now receive an excellent signal from the local mast and have download speeds of 25-35 and upload of about 17. And, for your business, I guess it it tax-deductable, if you earn enough to pay tax :). Cheers, take care and stay safe.

One of the nicest, most down to earth couple I've seen. Extremely happy that I found this channel. I work from home as an Automation test engineer, I love that I don't have to suffer on a morning commute anymore!

I've worked for myself for the last 25 years or so, basically the last 12-13 from "home", so the pandemic lockdown is not only not a big deal for me, I've been crazy busy. I'm a professional sharpener, I've sharpened almost everything to kitchen knives and scissors to heavy industrial edges. Right now, most of my work is forestry related, sawmill blades and wood chipper knives, but I still see a lot of residential stuff as well. There's something to be said for setting my own hours but when I get swamped, like when the pandemic started, it's long hours :).

The life programing came during the control faze we were all consumed with. it's nice to see people who are turning back to the body and soul priorities that are needed to live happy lives.

I have been working from a predominantly mobile stand point for 20 years. For much of this I ran a home office in my house - I set a room up for it but then use my laptop on the sofa all the time. The room became a store - tools, bicycles, you name it, it is there. I say mobile because my clients are spread over more than 10 countries and so a lot of air miles. On the move or at home I just need a notebook, a mobile phone and internet access to operate. The home office is simply because I have a home. I have been considering returning to UK and locating on a narrow boat. It would mean slightly more air miles perhaps to visit customers when required but it would put me in the same country and continent as our son. (My wife would naturally come with me, although she has never lived full time in UK). Costs and whether we'd find living in such a narrow 'dwelling' are worries. I believe the costs are lower than in a house but the narrowness in winter is a concern. I originally left UK for the tropics due to suffering from SAD. It seems to have gone away now but a long cold, grey winter in a very small space could bring it back. However, nowadays I have more problems standing the heat than the cold. It used to be the other way round. We are decades nearer retirement than you guys are, so it could become our retirement plan if UK immigration doesn't make it a problem.

I work from home most of the time - I am a cyber-security consultant specializing in Operations Technology (rail, oil&gas, electric, nuclear, et cetera). Before COVID-19, each of my gigs required a one or two week on-site trip to do packet captures, scans, and pen-testing. Since COVID, at first I couldn't travel and now I'm reluctant to travel.

Interesting stuff as we can both work from home and are getting to spend more time on the boat. Also getting a traders licence. What app do you use on the iPhone for editing videos?

We use 3 unlimited £21 a month. Works everywhere on the canal, if the signal is a bit low we stick it on the roof. I think 3 works well on the canal because canals are often near the rail network even out in the country. The rail network has repeater towers along side it and these carry the 3 signal.

Nice vlog. I was wondering if your cookbook was published or “go fund me”? I have a lovely collection of recipe pages. (Splashing ingredients on my iPad is not cool.) Plus I have a teenager to feed and having a book I can throw at him to get him out of my kitchen would be a big help. Thanks looking forward to your next posting.

Firstly, where is 24:36? I work from home. I do psychic phone readings on Psychic TV Australia and privately readings by phone/Skype/WhatsApp/messenger. I am also a content creator on RU-vid. You guys inspired me to do a recipe playlist. I release a new recipe every Friday. Vlogging is taking a lot of time at the moment, because I release 3 a week now. I use other social media for promotion. I throw in some comedy and like to think that my viewers will learn something. In summary, there is a lot you can do from home. I have applied to renew my UK Ancestry Visa (from 16 years ago lol), so hopefully we will be on own own narrowboat, working from home.

I worked as a paralegal in a law firm and then I discovered “virtual” legal work. I found I had an advantage because I’d grown up in the UK so I could spell the names of places, and living on the prairies in Canada being 7 hours behind, they could send me work before they went home for the day and I’d have it done by the time they started work in the morning. The most interesting work was claims for an insurance company.

Wow, such an interesting diversion from your usual vlog and yet it gave us a good insight into how you can continue to work from your boat while cruising. Keeping in touch with your Mum and her business seems to be such an essential activity, both economically and socially. No wonder that your time at Crick brought so much frustration. So, may I get a bit personal? I don't see any Amazon or other Affiliate links which many of your peers seem to be doing. Is that an avenue you are going to explore or have you considered it and then left it alone? If you look at the Foxes and their vlog pages, they have done a considerable amount of work to place their vlog and to place links that might just bring in some search results and income for them. I note that you only have 13 Keywords whereas they are often using over 50 of them. Maybe you could look on boosting your RU-vid income as a way to supplement what your current online work is bringing in. The great thing with RU-vid linking, it works 24/7 no matter if you have a connection or not. A couple of channels that I have been spending a lot of time on lately would be the ThinkMedia pages and the RU-vid Influencers page. Some amazing and supportive clips coming out of those sites to help you develop an income stream from your channel. I really enjoyed this video today. So much great learning. A really great video guys. I must say I cringed a little when I saw how much you were paying for your internet. I was quite unhappy with my service provider as I found their coverage surprisingly poor, so I managed to get an unlimited sim-only for £34 per month from EE. I had already bought a Huawei B525 4G router from Amazon which provides both wi-fi and ethernet wired connections. For antennas I can use either a CONEMAG MIMO or a Colinea COLMAG (flexible) devices which are from badland.co.uk. I feed the cables through the mushroom vents although they do provide versions which are permanent mounting too. I was also amazed with the size of your antenna and I thought that it is an active type due to the really high gain you quoted. I don't have anywhere near that much gain but I still manage to get 4 or 5 bars. Anyway, keep up the good work and keep churning out the excellent videos.

Better to be paranoid about your antenna getting wiped off than have it wiped off. With that sort of antenna there will be a fair improvement in signal strength so it will certainly improve your coverage area.

I do find that a lot of live aboard Narrowboaters are professional in some way that they can work via a computer and the Internet. I don't think a Brickie , Electrician or Joiner who are just as professional could do that. So, as Brian Grundy has said, if your happy your rich. Oh and where are my low carb dishes.:) To be honest, its hard to tel your not Brits, so enjoy the experience and good luck.
