I love the idea of the hybrid and that's actually what I do on my last nights work (sleep 9:30a-1:30p) because that's also my transition day to get my son from his dad. Then I immediately jump into a "traditional" sleep schedule (10p-6a) so I can be 'mom' for the next 3-4 days! It can be rough but it seems to work OK. Without kiddo, I'd be HYBRID HAPPY!!
I like how you said for option two at 5:25 you said are you really present with your friends and family the thing that I like to say is you're available but not present like you're there physically you're able to do stuff but you're not making an effort and you're not putting in 110% at least that's how I look at it
New night shift worker here and loving your advice. I actually finish work around 3-4am so I’ll sleep until 1 then I’m up for the day with plenty of time on days off. Sometimes after a long week or a late(early!) finish I’ll sleep until 3pm on my days off. I always stay awake until 4am or later still, simply because I can’t sleep any earlier, I’m wide awake at 2am! It’s school days on my work days I struggle with. As a single parent I might sleep at 4am, up again at 7:30am for school, back to sleep from 9-2, then I leave for work at 4:30. So I’m glad my days off are actual days off from around 1pm. I do chores now after the kids are in bed while I’m wide awake, leaving all evening to spend with them :)

i work a 2-2-3 7p-7a schedule. for instance, this week I work 12 hr night shift monday and tuesday night the 12 hour night shift fri. sat. and sunday night. I also want to add that I require at least 7 of sleep to feel like I'm functioning anywhere near 100%. also lots of caffeine to be productive no matter what time of day or night. and I have things I need to do in the daylight. Mowing the yard and Dr appointments for example. I usually can fall asleep anytime day or night. I might need a glass of milk and a benadryl sometimes. But at 62 yrs old I Usually cant sleep 12-16 hrs straight like I could when i was 20. usually wake up every 2, 4, hours. I know, probably the caffeine.
Thanks for watching. Busy life you've got there with likely many deeply ingrained habits. But if you're happy and it's working - life's good. But I'm here if you need a hand.
