THANK YOU!! I'm doing this exact project now (even re-glazing one sash) and didn't know how to deal with the integrated stripping; I thought I'd need to replace it, glad I watched this video before I threw the old stripping out!

This video is four years too late for me, but appreciated anyway! First project after buying our bungalow had me tearing out the 3 front windows to restore them and no amount of looking online or racking my brain could save those side strips of zinc weatherstripping. I did find some replacement strips from a salvage sale so eventually I'll tackle replacing them. Keep the vids coming, thank you!

Thank you so much for this video! I have original wood double-hung Andersen Master Frames in my 1939 home. Beautiful windows but they have integrated zinc weather stripping with metal tape balances at the top of the upper sash (even the parting beads are zinc). I’ve been very hesitant to try to take them apart, you’re demonstration and suggestions were so helpful. I’ve been thinking I’d have to track down the original design of the windows from the Andersen Corporate Archives in Minnesota. I too think this is great weather stripping; my 82 year old windows never rattle!

Oh my gosh thank you!!!!! I searched and searched to find out how to do this until I finally found your video! And so good to know that I can refurbish my existing hardware, rather than trying to replace it. My sash cords had broken one by one, but I couldn’t figure out how to get the windows out… none of the other videos included this key step.

Thank you so much for this video! I was taking my window apart (after watching another of your videos) and I found this weather stripping and didn't know what to do. This helped so much!

I have this kind of weather stripping. If it gets bent up you can forget about getting it to work again.

Thank you, I’ve been waiting four years for someone to make this video. Do you have any tips for getting some of the wiggle out of these sash?

Your videos are well produced and informative. Thanks. I have that zink weather stripping and wonder is a lubricant of some kind can or should be applied to help my old windows operate more smoothly. I’m currently in the process of removing my second window

I am not an authority on this but on different windows I have used Johnson Paste Wax as well as a dry lube with teflon spray and both helped. But first I cleaned the zinc strips of all grime and paint and also gently straightened out any bumps in the zinc that developed when I was removing them or over the last 100 years of use. (And don't forget the obvious point of lubricating the pully).

My windows have a similar but slightly different system. The sides of the sashes have a rib covered in a zinc channel and the frames also have a channel that fits over. The frame parts are attached with tiny screws that, after 100yrs, are awfully tight. I wish I could find a replacement source as some pieces have been lost over time.

Do you ever spread that flange open more when reinstalling to insure that the channel is sealed? Wondering if that is Frowned upon and will cause the wood to wear

Just so people do not get confused the pliers are metal bending clamp locking pliers not duck bill pliers.

This is great! What if I don't have weatherstripping? Can this kind be added or are my windows made to use something else?

The weather stripping on my windows clads/covers the parting strip as one integrated unit. I have been unable to figure out how to pull out the bottom sash since the parting strip is also in the kerf. Any ideas?

It’s made from zinc. You can find it at accuratemachinemade.com
@justanothernonexistentterminal
@@TheCraftsmanBlog thanks for the website. They offer corrugated and flat weather stripping. Can you help us understand when/why we should use corrugated vs flat, and zinc vs bronze?

Dont think interlocking mate . Looks more like « Mortise&Tenon « style .
