Bullying and toxic co workers are not in our head. It happens. There are people who are naturally bad and hate you for no reason at all. It is reality.

Thank You! I had to do this last month. I had a Lead that was bullying, Gaslighting, etc. I had told her that we could speak respectfully to one another, and I had asked if I had done anything to her and apologized just in case. She was also raging and doing a problem dump. I told her that we all have problems and that we can be empowered to find solutions. She got angrier, so I gave her space. She was looking for a fight. I continued to do my job. She kept trying to trigger me. I finally told her that the behavior was toxic and that it would be my last night working there. I saw her smack a resident on the hand a couple of times, I have no proof, BUT she was trying to set me up to lose my job. It was a toxic work environment with high turnover. The red flags were there at day 1. I made sure that all of the work was completed. One of the nurses told me that there were a couple of complaints about her and that I should report them. I did, but did not return and I do not regret leaving, it would have only gotten much worse with time. They can deal with their Lead hire.

I have just retired and I have worked in lots of places. I will tell you this. Be very careful in the workplace. Toxic people aren't always obvious and the ones trying to befriend you and are trying to get you to talk about the workplace and your private life are usually up to something. Just do this. Don't trust anyone. Keep your thoughts to yourself. Keep work and your private life apart. If the actual job is rubbish. keep it to yourself, look for another job, and then leave. Don't give people ammunition to go and tell management what you think of the company. I retired at 54 which was as soon as I could to get out of working due to all the toxicity I had encountered.

The challenging part is that often the entire workplace is toxic and not just one person. Moreover, its enacted by the management which have authority over you. Thus setting boundaries and creating distance is very hard to do. Typically, this leads to becoming passive and submissive which is their exact intention. Yet another challenge is that such workplaces are associated with high workload, unclear roles & responsibilities, lack of support, continuous yet cunning ad subtle gaslighting etc. which will drain you over time both physically and emotionally. Upon reaching this point you are basically burnt down, developed PTSS or other mental issues which pretty much makes it impossible to remain emotionally unreactive in toxic encounters.

So true. Set clear and healthy boundaries. Also, stick to your principles. Refuse to part take to anything that is toxic, not your part, or you do not really know about. Stick to good values and principles whatever happens. Shade is so good at addressing all that in such a truthful and positive way. Let's learn from that great coach. ❤🎉😂

This was a great video. My daughter called me crying at work yesterday because a lady who was on leave came back and is upset because my daughter has been praised for her high quality work. My daughter has been given more hours and discussed possible promotions with her boss. The toxic person came to her and challenged her as to why she is getting the things she (the toxic one) had asked for. My daughter just got transferred to that branch from another location so she is still building relationships. My daughter is young 20s and very kind and I know she felt personally attacked and she has nothing to do with the decision. I will forward this video to her. It says everything I told her plus more ways to take control of the situation. Thank you! ❤

The easiest way to attract toxicity is simply to be "more" than someone at something- or at least they have to believe that you are "more". Jealousy is an ugly thing, and unless you are the biggest loser in every single category in life, you WILL bump into someone at some point who just can't stand you for whatever that one "more" thing is.

Hi Shadè, Thanks for addressing another important topic. I want to share my experience also... there may also be another toxicity at home as well. Sometimes you've difference of opinions WITHIN HOME as well. And I've found that in this type of toxicity, one should not always try to change others. There's only one person in this world who can be changed.... that is... ONESELF. And the things become better.... Change which can't be accepted OR accept what can't be changed. Regards, Dr. Kalsi

Your first point reminded me of Stephen Covey's words, "Seek first to understand, then to be understood." I know from experience that that's a wise way of handling things. Your second point reminded me of Stephen Covey's words too, "The deepest hunger of the human heart is to be understood." Your third point was something new to me, that's really an out of the box strategy; I have downloaded it into my heart for a rainy day! Your fourth point was something new to me too, what a holistic approach! Your fifth point taught me that having inner self-confidence makes me unbreakable. Your bonus point taught me that there's a civilized, peacemaking way of speaking up to toxic people. Your last point reminded me of the lyrics to Katy Perry's hit song, "Unconditionally," "Acceptance is the key to be truly free." Thank you so much Shadé, for educating us! 💛💛

Took some good notes from this video. I have a team lead who has been triggering me all week since our manager is out. She's a micromanager who is new to the role. But I recognize I have my own negative bias towards myself since this role is not a good fit. I am capable and able to do this job, but my work style does not mesh with the team (workaholism for it's own sake). After watching this video I've come to the conclusion we both have some opportunities for improvement.

Toxic people /co workers are exist in everywhere. We just need to tackle from our own ability. I have experienced during my role as a Branch Manager, where toxic co workers always do backfighting about work but they dont show such behaviour directly. Sometimes, they use another co worker as mediator for creating such environment where the supervisor will be in a position and state of mind where he/she may have the confusion what to do or what not to do. The toxic people/ co worker always want to make failure to BM or his/her supervisor.

Know how to hold your OWN power and OWN IT! ❤ Be extremely selective about your energies. Observe everyone sharply. Don’t give away your trust to ANYONE freely. Everyone should earn it! Prove they are worth your trust! On priority protect your own honesty and integrity. Really really really KNOW your WORTH and enhance it!

I have worked with a few people like this and not a one of them were top performers .They were not cable of focusing in on results or not capable either. When I was an Account Executive on co worker noted at a meeting they had signed seven new accounts in two weeks. I stopped our regional managers office ( our old DM) told his assistant this news and then asked him if this made any sense. The next morning he was fired for falsifying records. As a Leader I do not beleive no matter the education level people have a hard time understanding work in the end is about results and exceeding those results. Provided the goals our reasonable and attainable.

It is certainly not easy to deal with a bully, especially when that person is your manager. It can take a toll on your mental health and productivity, which is why it's important to take action and protect yourself. One solution could be to confront the bully in a professional manner and express how their behaviour is impacting you. This may involve documenting specific incidents and bringing them up in a private meeting with your manager or HR representative. However, if you feel that the bully is unlikely to change and the situation is not improving, it may be time to consider finding a new job. Your mental health and well-being should be a top priority, and being in a toxic work environment can be detrimental to both. Before leaving, it's important to have a plan in place and ensure that you have another job lined up or sufficient savings to support yourself during your job search. It's also important to be honest in your job interviews about why you're leaving your current position, but try to focus on the positive aspects of what you're looking for in a new job. Remember that you deserve to work in an environment that respects and values you, and sometimes that means making the difficult decision to move on from a toxic situation.
