Glad to see you properly mobile, Paul. Great variety of small machines, each with a solid reputation. I like your ideas of mobile ancillaries like the good lamp and coolant system. I agree that machine stand rigidity is very desirable. Thanks for sharing.

Hello Russell, The new hip is wonderful... I have been doing some more thinking on the mobile ancillaries, I have got a small are compressor going which will be another fine addition. Thanks for watching and your support. Take care. Paul,,

Hi Paul. Restoring old Unimats to working condition is a noble cause, that more folks may enjoy these delightful little machines. My second SL is a "Frankenstein", put together from random parts, everything fit perfectly. I always wanted a Unimat as a kid, but $99 was a fortune back then ...

Hi Rich, I enjoy taking a tired one and bringing it back to life... and it has allowed me to gather quite a few accessories... I generally try and put them back to as near original as economically possible. Thanks for watching. Take care. Paul,,

Workshop is looking good Paul. You've come a long way with it in a fairly short period of time. Have you thought about building a sturdy fixed bench against the wall where the Dore Westbury is? It would give you a much more rigid base to mount your machines on. Cheers, Alan.
@TheKnacklersWorkshop
@TheKnacklersWorkshop 11 месяцев назад
Hello Alan, Trying to make the Myford and Dore Westbury more stable are quite big goals. The current bench misses the mark quite a lot, what you're suggesting will most likely be what I do... Today was my first real day back in the workshop which was really good. Thanks for watching. Take care. Paul,,

Thanks for the guided tour Paul. I wish I had a workshop as big as yours. I'm so cramped for space in my one. It would be great to have all the machines set up ready all the time. Glad you're back in the shop again. Keep happy Cheers Nobby

Hello Nobby, I am lucky to have the space but it wont be for much longer as my mate below will retire soon and I will need to find somewhere else, hence the plan to shrink things a little. Tomorrow is my first day back there which will be really good. Thanks for watching. Take care. Paul,,

Hello Joseph, The floor is really cool and must be very old, I have never used a capstan lathe so a good leaning exercise for me there. It is generally tidy but exceptionally at the time of filming as I was leaving it for a couple of months. Thanks for watching. Take care. Paul,,

Very good video Paul, I love to see other people's workshops, and hear how they plan to arrange them for maximum convenience. You deserve massive credit for keeping it so tidy, expecially with your recent mobility issues, which are now thankfully resolved, I hope, all the best for that. I would respectfully suggest the off hand grinders could be very useful if made easily movable, with a selection of different wheels, wire wheels or buffing material wheels. Your idea for the portable coolant tank & pump probably has a lot of merit, I think I personally would try and avoid using it on the BCA at least, I'm not a fan of flood coolant unless the machine has guards to stop it splashing everywhere. I just associate it with an awful sticky mess that creeps everywhere and causes corrosion if not cleaned up promptly. I built a system for one of my Pultra lathes, but have never filled it and put into use, as I had second thoughts. Wish my workshop was as roomy and well lit. Best wishes.
@TheKnacklersWorkshop
@TheKnacklersWorkshop 11 месяцев назад
Hello Colin, Most people are suggesting that keeping the grinders are advisable... It is interesting to hear your thoughts on the coolant and the BCA, I will keep that in mind. I do think it would be useful to have one shared system for the Myford, Dore Westbury and Hexacut, so will most likely move forward with that. Thanks for watching and your support. Take care. Paul,,

Hi Randy, Thanks for dropping by... I am really on the mend now and should be in the workshop more and more from now on. I am really going to try and go with a quality not quantity approach in the workshop and shareability across machine tools. Take care. Paul,,

Hello Vernon, I am really pleased with my little workshop and the machines I have purchased. I am lucky to have done a 4 year engineering apprenticeship, which gave me a good knowledge in using many of the machines I have. To be truthful, I enjoy making things by hand the most but a machine has to be used some of the time. Thanks for watching and your support. Take care. Paul,,

Hello Paul, don't get rid of the double ended grinders, they are too useful and it's a pain in the backside to keep changing wheels, discs and brushes. Mounted on the bases like the drilling machines they take up little space and can be clamped in the Workmate when you need them. I keep one with a steel brush and a brass brush and another with medium and fine grinding wheels. You also don't then have to worry about getting grinding sparks and debris on the machine bed and the rotational speed is appropriate for metal rather than wood. Hope that the new hip is settling in well. Best wishes.
@TheKnacklersWorkshop
@TheKnacklersWorkshop 11 месяцев назад
Hello George, I get what your saying about the grinders and it makes perfect sense... I have a little idea about making some sort of workstation for the small drilling machines which could accommodate the grinding/wire wheels... Once I am fully up to speed again I show you all what I am thinking. Thanks for watching. The hips recovery is going well and I hope to make my first visit to the workshop tomorrow. Take care. Paul,,

Hi Paul, hope you're doing well and past the two mile target. Interesting to see that the downstairs floor is wooden, obviously would make sense given the original usage. Are there any remains of the railway lines nearby, there was a number of sidings at one time. You've got so much interesting machinery up there. I'm not sure which one I would like to see running first, be great to see that capstan lathe running. Look after yourself and have a great week

Hello David, You know the area well being a Pompey boy... I should be in the workshop again from tomorrow and start to get all the machines up and running. My first job is to change the belts on the Myford. I am really looking forward to getting back in there. The hip is working well and I did no further than 2 miles twice a day as that seemed more than enough. Thanks for watching. Take care. Paul,,
