I cannot remember how long I have had these three broken Peco turnouts or even where I got them from but they have sat around for years. Once I decided to repair them it didn't take long and they work as good as any other. Two are short RH points and I was surprised to fid that the one I demonstrated in the video is a long "Y" point.

Really well explained. I have a box full of old Peco turnouts/points that are from my early days of modelling n gauge (50 years plus) all of which are in a pretty rough state. You have inspired me to refurbish/ rebuild them all. Your right about being a bit pricey so upgrading and fixing them makes good sense. Thank you for sharing and saving me a few quid!

Hi Chris. The best way to do them is as and when you need them so that you can install them with supporting track on the ends and ballast will also help to keep them together.

Hello dear David, Unfortunately, in order not to succumb to the crazy increase in the price of our beloved hobby , the only valid system is the one you show us in this excellent video. You repaired an old turnout very well but unfortunately not all of us are capable of doing it and I am among the latter. Great like for your video tutorial.Have a nice weekend,Alberto 🚂🚂🚂🚂👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🙋🙋

Hello Alberto, thank you for this great comment. In today's market we must all look for ways to save. For me it is part of the fun, to challenge my mind and my hands. If this helps someone then I am happy. Take care, David.

Great work on the repair. They are such a fragile items. It’s great to get a bit more out of them. Oscar

Hello Oscar. They went together quite easily and they seem to be quite robust. I shall have no qualms about using them when I find the need. David.

Hi Mon, they could easily have been thrown out years ago but I saved them and the time seemed right so.... I think I saved about $75.00 fixing those three turnouts.

Great job on the repair. Prices have gone up so much one has to try that. Thanks for sharing. Dave

Yes Dave, we are almost being priced out of our hobby. I expect that these three turnouts will give many more years of service as long as I handle them gently as I install them. David.

Thank you Laurie, they have turned out surprisingly sturdy. Placed in a permanent spot with spikes either side of the rails they should be good for years. David.

go to some of the smaller trains show and they normally have books of track for sale,, as is of coarse.. you show a good way to bring some of that old track back to life

Hi Sparky. Most would have just thrown them away but with my frugal nature I just had to try to salvage them. I always look for bargains when at train shows, that's probably where I got these from. Cheers, David.

Good fix, I`ve had a few where the end ties have come astray and those tiny z springs are a pain to thread back into place on the newer version.
@trainsontuesday
@trainsontuesday 6 месяцев назад
Thank you Clive, they seem almost as good as new but I will restrict hem to a low use area. The Z spring on the last of the three was bent and I had a bit of a job getting that one together. It snaps into place one way but needs a little nudge to go fully over the other way. I'm happy with the result. Cheers, David.

Hi David, anything goes when it comes to repairing points. Darn things are so bloody expensive now. That's a pretty tidy method you've developed. It's better than what I do, drilling fine holes in the ties and replacing the worn/broken chair with a pinhead tack to lock the rail down. I go through a lot of fine drill bits and it doesn't always work. Steven
@trainsontuesday
@trainsontuesday 6 месяцев назад
Hi Steven, I'm sure there are many methods out there. I have thought of spiking the sides of the rails once I have them mounted in a permanent spot. All three ae now done and tested, the loco ran through just fine. Cheers, David.

I’m suffering from sticker shock, too. Just bought a Peco medium radius code 100 electrofrog turnout from a bricks and mortar shop. I’m not going to tell you what I paid…😳😢

Yes, they are getting to be terribly expensive. I guess that I saved around $75.00 doing this.
