Boxing legend "Sugar" Shane Mosley, three-division world champion and boxing hall of famer, rates every "Rocky" and "Creed" movie for realism.
Mosley breaks down the iconic boxing scenes in "Rocky," starring Sylvester Stallone, such as the training montage and the first match between Rocky Balboa and Apollo Creed. He further explains boxing styles and tactics in "Rocky II" and "Rocky III," such as jabs, uppercuts, hooks, and knockout blows. He also looks at other boxing movements, as well as the reality of injuries and safety protocols in boxing matches in "Creed" and "Creed II," starring Michael B. Jordan. Mosley additionally breaks down the most recent installments of the franchises, discussing different weight classes in "Rocky IV"; the real-life boxers in "Creed III," such as José Luis Benavidez Jr.; and the realism of fighting at an older age in "Rocky Balboa." Mosley also references famous fighters throughout the scenes, such as Mike Tyson, Jake Paul, Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, and Andre Ward, and he connects all the scenes to his own experience.
Mosley is a three-division world champion and boxing hall of famer who has been boxing since he was 8 years old. He has held multiple world championships in three weight classes, including the International Boxing Federation lightweight title; the World Boxing Association (WBA) and World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight titles; and the WBA (Super), WBC, and The Ring magazine light middleweight titles. He was also a lineal champion at welterweight and light middleweight. He was inducted to the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2020.

Great insight from one of the greats, but I don't consider the Rocky and Creed movies as purely boxing films. They are more about life and love, focusing on the relationships between Rocky and Adrian and Adonis and Bianca. The boxing elements serve as a metaphor for the financial and personal challenges we face in life.
@ErnestZDodson
@ErnestZDodson 2 месяца назад
I understand why they skipped "Rocky V," as it ends with a street fight, but I wish they had devoted more time to "Rocky Balboa." Considering the insights about the training sequence in "Rocky IV," it would have been valuable to hear thoughts on the training in "Rocky Balboa." This film focused more on strength training than fight training, specifically to "build some hurtin' bombs." The reasoning behind this approach would have been interesting to explore from a financial perspective, highlighting strategic investment in targeted areas for maximum impact. Additionally, while "Rocky Balboa" was technically an exhibition match, that's a minor detail in the larger context.

I feel one Of the greatest challenges that we first timers face in the ma rket is that we end up losing all we have, we find it difficult to find ourselves back to our feet. My biggest advice is to always seek the services of a professional just like I did when I ventured into it for the first time. Big thanks to MARGARET ELLEN WHITLOCK. I've boxed all my life from aged 14 to now 56. 7 years competitively. I'm still in the gym 4-5 days a week. It was after seeing ROCKY III that I wanted to learn to box. Clubber Lang rocks!!! Mr T, threw some amazing hooking punches. Especially considering they weren't making contact. Very skilled. I'm still in love and addicted as much now as I was when I started. I also think, that as long as you're still in love with the sport, you never stop learning. My style has changed many times over the years, as I've become interested in different ways of moving, angles and footwork.

4:38 is the only part of the video where I disagree with Shane. There are still great fights in boxing that are back and forth action. It's definitely rarer because the reffing and judging style has changed throughout the years, but every year, we get 3-4 Ward vs. Gatti style fights. Nothing compares to that fight in my opinion, because that's my favorite fight ever. But look at Zepeda vs. Baranchyk or Espinoza vs. Rodriguez or Wilder vs. Fury 3 or Inoue vs. Donair 1. All recent fights. All barn burners. I could name more examples in the last 10 years, but the point is that in todays boxing, the fight isn't always stopped prematurely, and there are always still movie worthy fights in boxing happening constantly.

Notice how Rocky went orthodox in the second fight to protect his eye yet every other movie after that he was southpaw again with no eye issue.

Mosley almost knocked out Mayweather in the middle of their bout and that would have changed sports history for sure.

Rocky is based off of real life boxer Chuck Wepner. Stallone used his story and didn’t pay him. Wepner sued and it was settled in 2006.

It had more to do. That Stallone used Wepners Name and fight against Ali to promote the movie. The Story itself was a little Different than Wepners.

I believe what's best for the Creed series would be for Adonis to lose to a upcoming hungry fighter pushing the series past Creed and Rocky but still give you that starting from the bottom storyline be a million dollar movie
