Rudder shift time is the time it takes for the rudder to go from hard to starboard to hard to port. Turning radius is a function of the angle of the rudder, size and speed of the ship, etc. In other words, rudder shift time is the speed of the rudder and turning radius is the power or effect of the rudder.

Great video, as usual. Too bad those 2 are not on sale currently, I'd definitely be interested in getting the Lo Yang. I have 2 things I want to comment on though, things maybe you could have mentioned: 1. Launching Torpedos while being spotted by aircraft immediately spots the Torpedos for the whole enemy team. And once a Torpedo is spotted, it stays spotted until it runs out. How you managed to hit the Colorado with the Torps you launched at 26:25 remains a mystery to me... He got the Torps marked on his screen from 9.5 km away and still ran into them :-D 2. The main and unique selling point and most important aspect of the Lo Yang is that it is the only DD in the game that gets the Hydroacoustic search consumable, even though you seem to have chosen not to select it for your Lo Yang. It makes it extremely powerful in Domination matches, when you are fighting DDs inside the cap zones and it probably makes it the best DD for securing early caps and chasing enemy DD out of cap zones / smoke screens etc. At least that's my view as someone who has played against the Lo Yang in other DDs, but unfortunately does not own it himself.

I feel for that New York, seems like the last few patches have had some shadow-nerfs for some battleships (Warspite's dispersion is worse than it was in obt, and my Fuso used to reliably hit 70K average is now down to 40-50k because my dispersion keeps straddling ships - at every, and all range.)

Jingles! The rudder shift time has nothing to do with the turning radius. The turning circle radius depends mostly on the max. angle the rudder can be turned against the direction of propulsion/heading of the wessel and other geometrical and structural factors. RST simply indicates how fast the ship can change its course.

Ppl are becoming really upset about no UK tree in the game while this kind of premium ships are implemented.

2 Things : 1. The guns increase detectibility range based on caliber , 130mm have a special nerf so they shine like 203mm. 2. Lo Yang is OP as hell due to the fact that it can equip hydroacoustic search , meaning murdering enemy destroyers in smoke is a piece of cake.

The turning radius is how big a circle the ship will make when the rudder is already hard to one side, so rudder shift time doesn't change it.

+The Mighty Jingles Jingles with regards to the Turning Circle Radii being the same between the Gnevny and Anshan despite the Anshan's better rudder shift time it makes sense if you think about it. The Turning Circle Radius of a ship is measured at full rudder deflection at a given speed as the two ships are essentially the same hull that figure should be the same as the rudder is already at full deflection the shift time difference would have no effect.

Hi Jingles, old video, I know, but I watched it only today. You say you cannot understand the Gnevny and Anshan have the same turning radius, but the Anshan’s rudder shift is 2 seconds faster. Well, the turning radius is what you get with the rudder hard over. The rudder shift time is how fast or slow you get the rudder to hard over. So an improved rudder shift does not mean a change to the turning radius.

don't forget if you get the Advanced Firing Training captain skill on your Lo Yang, that can increase the range that you can fire up to just over 13km, giving them even more of a 'safe zone' to fire their guns undetected, also there is the 5 point captain skill for camouflage to allow you to get even closer without detection.

If you're spotted and getting hit, but its not a capital ship, just look for the tracers just because the ship isn't spotted doesn't mean you can fire back at it, love nuking DD's in my Fuso when they aren't in detection range

Thank you for the compliment jingles, i was the guy in the Cleveland who took the early torpedo, i didn't realise how sneaky your anchan was and the spread was pretty unavoidable by the time i detected them. i am generally fairly chatty in game because to my mind it's only like playing any other team game and the easiest way to work together is to talk. I do also like to be respectful of good game play by either side. I ended up with 3 kills and rngesus kinda screwed me out of another but I did feel really sorry for our NY who i was trying to encourage in chat. i was trying to hunt you down, not because of who you are but because you were in a destroyer but had to break off the attack because you kept disappearing and we lost our eyes when our destroyers got taken out at the start. Unfortunately our cv didn't listen to my plea for spotting help but at the end of the day, i can't force anyone else to play the battle how i want to play it. Hopefully we'll be on the same team next time :)

As far as I know the Anshan has the russian detection range penalty when she fires her guns. That means no 3900m added to the detection range, but a value of 6km... And that is a significant difference between the gremlin and the anshan.

The Grem is actually a pre-order ship and will not be sold till the game is at least a year old. Now bearing in mind that this thing is T6 and the Grem is a five it's questionable whether the grem will actually ever be sold again. We'll have to wait and see.

24:30 You DO know, Jingles, that by pressing the "P" button, your AA will turn off, and aircraft will NEED to be 3.2km or closer to see you, rather than the 5km or greater that your AA guns will start giving away your position at!

Getting the 4 point captain skill advanced firing training increases the stealth fire window by quite a lot, but the shell speed remains the same so hitting is a bit harder at long range. The best is of course combining it with the stealth skill for 5 points, that lowers the base detection distance AND the detection malus from shooting by another 10%

Anshan v. Gnevny turning: though they both have same turning radius, Anshan's faster rudder shift will bring the ship in to that minimum radius sooner. So not illogical.

i think that if you want to measure a ship`s turning circle radius you need to get to full speed turn the rudder to the max left or right and once you get the tightest turn you start measuring. You don`t count the portion of the curve where the rudder is shifting in the desired direction. Both these ships have the same circle because they`re rudders turn the same degree.

I think the Gremyashchy will not be sold again and will be the golden, sought after Type 59 of WoWS.

Jingles I believe you can fit the AA defensive fire cooldown to the Lo Yang; you can fit the hydroacoustic search as well. they replace the engine boost (which I'd gladly lose) but the AA fire one in particular would come in handy on the North American server, where Carriers seem to love to ignore the Cruisers and BBs that are spotted and beeline for us DD drivers. it's actually kind of enraging; I've had the full air wings of two carriers on me before.

Jingles: If nobody mentioned it already I will: The Gremiaschy was pre order only so the chances of picking that are over despite the fact that it is a tier lower for the same punch as the Anshan. Edit: well, this was already mentioned, left it in anyway for visibility.

Not to nitpick Jingles there is one difference between the Benson and the Lo Yang, for some reason the Benson has 5 main guns, the Lo Yang only has 4 main guns.

Rudder Shift Time improves with the first hull upgrade of every regular ship (along with HP). So the Anshan's rudder shift probably matches up with the upgraded hull of the Gnevny.

Jingles, not sure about the EU server but in the NA server, they had removed the Gremyashchy from the shop when the Soviet line came out. So more NA players maybe interested in the Chinese destroyer.

Played a game earlier tonight for the first time in forever. Accidentally ninja'd a kill, apologized, got told "no problem, you where right there in the middle helping!". Kinda mutually tied into it with a hidden DD, we sank each other.....good exchange, mutual congrats. The other two games..... honestly chat was pleasant. GJ WOWS community tonight!

Nice review of the two however, I'm curious, WHERE ARE THE BRITISH SHIPS!? We've got a Warspite already! I want some British Ships, they are known for one really good arm of the military, it would be the navy! Why is the Jingles not up in arms to get his own personal ship he serve on into game ;)

Oh New York captain, I so feel your pain...

It somewhat amused me about how Jingles went on and on comparing the Anshan to the Gremyashchy, which is a fine thing to do, but he also neglected to mention (or just plain forgot since he his old and crap....his words, not mine) that the Gremy is not currently available for purchase in the premium shop. Last statement was that it was to be a one year exclusive, which means if and when it is available again will be sometime in May. Of course, who knows how long the Anshan will be available in the premium shop. There haven't been any permanent premium ships added recently. All the new ones have been for limited amounts of time at different times of the year.

Hi Jingles, a repost from the 18+ edition of Mingles with Jingles this Monday from me. Hmm... As a person from Taiwan/the ROC who ALSO lived in Mainland China before, I agree to your history lecture in this episode of Mingles with Jingles. However, there are some things I'd want to point out. About the part you said about Chiang Kai-shek doing nothing but hunting communists in WWII, it's not entirely true. Yes, a lot of the war efforts were directed onto the communists, but the Nationalist army fought a fair deal of battles against Japan as well. So, on that, yeah, I'd say mostly correct, since Chiang Kai-shek believed in this idea that is well documented in my home: Get the internal strife (the Communist Party) rid of first before the outside threat (the Japanese). Then onto the post-Nationalist retreat era. Jingles's version of the history is mostly correct, as I believed it to be so. But relations between the Nationalists and the Mainland did go into a thaw in the 1980s, as well as the economy and people's rights in Taiwan. In 1992 the two sides agreed on "there is only one China" but both sides would interpret it in a different way. (I tried to translate it, so it won't be perfect). That was a major point in Cross-Strait relations. Anyway, the main impeding issue right now in Taiwan/the ROC is not actually about who is the rightful China about independence. There are two main parties in my home: the KMT/Blue party, or the former Nationalists, and the DPP/Green party. The KMT are pro-reunification, while the DPP wishes for Taiwanese independence. Especially in these days when a lot of Taiwanese/ROC youths are frustrated with the dependence of Taiwan's economy on China, and the great limitations of expressing their "nationality" (which is true). Plus the KMT has been doing some seriously dumb decisions and stuff recently that caused them to lose both the regional and general elections. So, as a consequence many Taiwanese/ROC people are supporting the DPP, and their cause. I look cautiously onto that. Of course, independence would mean a lot more oppurtunities and worldwide diplomatic recognition, but you DO NOT give up 2000 years of your political and academic history for that (along with the almost certain invasion that will follow the declaration). I don't support independence: the current status quo is fairly ok with me, but not without issues. All I hope is that this conflict is resolved peacefully.

The faster rudder speed means that the Anshan goes from straight to Full turn (turning radius) Faster than the Gnevny. In other words if you have them side by side and turn them both at the same time, the Gneveny would go out forward farther before reach its full turning radius. I hope I explained this clear enough lol. easy way to put it, the Anshan Has a Sharper Original Turn and the Gnevny Has a wider original turn till they both reach full turning radius.

So umm Royal Navy? I am a very dissatisfied customer.

Did anyone else notice that independence that first match that sailed broadside on to that kongo at point blank range and hardly took any damage?

If there is a premium fletcher, it must be USS Stevens or USS Halford (which were two of Five fletchers to mount a kingfisher plane, and had the redesigned derrick capable of recovering it but in return lacked both the rear torpedo tubes and the no. 3 gun turret)

Shame Jingles forgot to mention that Lo Yang can take Hydroacoustic Search in place of the Speed Boost...which means that it's extremely good at hunting enemy DD at close range. Especially if they're throwing smoke up.

I'm waitin' for this, actually...

The turning radius really isn't influenced by how fast the rudder shifts from left to right, but rather the underwater hull, especially the length to width ratio. Similar for top speed that depends on the drag of the ship and the engine power. Can't tell if Jingles comment on that was in jest or not...

Aside from the observation that the Gremyashchy isn't likely to be sold again, Jingles RN hasn't noticed that the Anshan has a unique camo pattern which, in addition to granting the -3% detection also gives you 100% more free XP. I like the Gremy and I like the Anshan. Given the fact that so may missions require a ship of Tier VI or more... its value is understated in this video. Where the Yo Lang is concerned... yes it is the Benson, but it is the C hull version which trades a gun for an AA mount. I think guns are more important than AA, so in fact this Yo Lang is a shade short of the Original incarnation of the Benson.

That poor New York!! I’ve had that happen in the New York as well. Didn’t take a hit while under constant fire, and didn’t hit a thing....

Of course, Jingles forgets to mention the Gremiashchy is not available anymore

They are the same place up to 1949. By the way, as far as Republic of China (Taiwan) is concerned, at least officially, they also own the entire China. So Taiwan is just a part of China, which China though is up to debate of course. Another interesting point, the Lo Yang is a city, wait for it, a city in China.

In the first minute or so of the video (after the intro) you can see a ship sail straight. When you look at the waves zipping past the ship it seems to be going really fast. Obviously the waves/water physics in the game are inaccurate, especially when making turns, but is that kind of speed realistic? Must be impressive standing on the deck of a ship like that going at full speed!

I love the defensive fire cd on the Benson...saved my ass several times from multiple dive bomber/ torpedobomber squads. Its a lot more useful than the speedbuff.

Can we just take a minute to appreciate the name of Jingles' Lo Yang captain at 20:03? Wang Gang Lol

The Anshan has one pretty big advantage over the Grem. The firing arcs are much better, especially for the superfiring rear turret. On the Grem it is something like 50 degrees off from straight ahead, which makes it hard to use in advancing situations. But otherwise the Gremyaschy is pretty much the same, with some advantages even (better detection penalty when firing).

IJN 203mm guns are the best Destroyer Killer guns, bar none! And that is all the more reason to ABSOLUTELY LOVE my Atago! With such GREAT concealment, it is often quite easy to push up into sight of enemy destroyers - then unload 1 or 2 good broadside and absolutely NUKE them!

I love my Gremmy but there are often events like the 6 stage February missions that can only be completed in tier 6 or higher ships. If the Anshan is essentially a Gremmy that is able to do these missions it would nicely fill that niche.

Hi Jingles great video but you have been a bit of a scrublord, there are two points, the first is that the Benson has one more 127 mm gun its got 5 and the Lo Yang has only 4 127 mm guns which gives the Lo Yang a better AA defence. But one of the most fun parts and very different to the Benson is the range of consumables (that can be got for 15 Gold or 22,500 credits) it has , eg: Engine Boost can now be changed for Defensive AA Fire or Hydroacoustic Search which means you can set it up as an Destroyer hunter if you wish. Keep up the good work and back to the salt mines

I had to chuckle when you were talking about all the mechanics of being able to invisi-fire and how it could be easily countered and yet there would be players who will compain a nd say the ship is OP, a bot, MOD and well you know the list.

is it just me or does the fv 4005 turret look a lot like those boxy turrets on the lo yang? can't help but wonder if british engineers just stuck a naval turret on a centurion hull and called it good?

Hey Jingles, you need to do another review on the Lo Yang ;). You missed one, very important detail: the Lo Yang can equip the Hydroacousic Search! That's a unique ability and a really, really important gimmick.

Hey Jingles great video as always. But I really think you miss the point with the Lo Yang. Lo yang is working with hydracustic and the modification that gives you 20% acceleration on your engine and not the rudder one because is already to fast at 2,6. That means it's a nightmare ship for the enemies dd's. Try to use the 6km toros on ranked and ambush every single ship while you use the islands as a cover and your smoke with hydro. I am sure you will have a new review soon.
